Thanks for doing this video..really appreciated, so glad it not worse than it is..Llandudno pier is such an asset to all of us as is the victorian charm of Llandudno
Glad you enjoyed the video, the Pier is such a special place, as is Llandudno.Thankfully it wasn’t worse than it was. I’m sure it will be sorted ASAP. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏴
Amazing video mate. I just felt like I was walking there myself. Glad the damage isn’t worse than I expected. Llandudno pier is very special place. So many memories made there back then 🥹. Really appreciate every video you take for us. Your channel is the best.
Thanks for this Glen. Nice to see life outside of my house, been inside all the time.. Have at least 5 panels blown to smithereens, garden furniture blown everywhere my satellite dish is hanging off the wall, literally by a thread. I bought gravel for my garden to put over the weed suppressant. Had to barrow 4 tons of it to stop the material blowing onto the beach. Worst storm ever for me. The tiles were lifting and slept downstairs.. Good to see you are ok. Hope that the pier gets help and put back to its magnificent condition again .
It was so sad watching that storm...I come from Buxton and we stay twice a year in the Grand at Llandudno...I remember the last battering when the trees fell at Happy Valley but this storm has been something else...we are going again in May and I hope the pier will be open and repaired by then...Great footage and new sub here...Cheers Les.🙂👍
Hi Les , thank you so much.. fingers crossed it will be sorted ASAP. I think it will be, it’s a great team that look after the pier. Fingers crossed no more storms like this for now. Cheers for subscribing, hope you enjoy the channel 👍😊🏴
@BusDriverWalking Really looking forward to it Glenn...I have just been flicking through your channel and it makes me happy cos it feels like I'm there again ...I retired from work last Friday so me and my family will spend even more time there, I might even meet you in person cos my bus pass is coming in the post this week...hope it's valid in North Wales😂
Firstly Les , Congratulations on your retirement 🎉🎉( I’m not at all jealous 😠) . . Hope you enjoy many more holidays over here . Hopefully meet you out and about sometime. Sadly, English passes are invalid in Wales 🏴 (and vice verca) . But we do offer concessions on Day/Weekly passes. 😊👍🏴
so sad to hear about the pier my wife and I were totally shocked by the battering it took but it just shows you how well she was built almost 150 yrs ago as it could of been much worse 😮 we walked to the end of the pier 2 weeks ago 😮so happy it survived and hopefully opens again soon..love the channel 👍
Absolutely 💯, it could have been so much worse.. the pier is such a special place. Hopefully it’s sorted asap, I think it will be, weather permitting. Thanks for watching the channel 😊👍🏴
spent many a summer under the pier crabbing and walking up and down the pier for hours such a shame to see the weather and the damage hopefully it gets repaired to its former glory soon
great vid glen never seen the waves that powerful in llandudno saying that i think the roof on liverpool airport got blown off the winds were tremendous
hi mate someone reported a wind speed of 93 mph in Llandudno yesterday wasn't that bad here about 60 mph luckily no damage here at all, people laughing at the damage to the pier need their heads testing wouldn't be laughing if the wind damaged their home stay safe mate.
Hi Mark, wind was relentless for at least 24 hours.. yeah it was gusting 90+ mph all the time . Never known anything like it . Thankfully it’s quite calm now mate 👍🏴
I was on that pier a few weeks back and have to say didn’t feel totally confident about some of the decking as I walked down it. Hope it’s escaped too much damage, I’d be devastated if it closed like Southport’s!
Hi 👋, I think a full structural inspection would probably be carried out after that storm, it was brutal. Love Southport , shame about the pier , had a little train on that one didn’t it ?
@ Southport really has gone into decline compared to Llandudno, lots of empty shops and not much you can do with that beach! Llandudno is the Pearl of North Wales and they really do try to keep it a place worth visiting. Our seaside piers are all constantly under threat though due to spiralling costs of maintenance!
What the owners thought they were going to lose was their cash cow, they don't care about the actual pier, if they did, they'd have spent a bit of money on it instead of take take take... Now they set up a go fund me to fix it???? It's in a state and they need to get in their own pockets to fix it, not beg for money they don't need!
Don’t know about there financial arrangements and what they’ve spent or not spent on the pier. I do know they have invested on it though in recent years, again I don’t know how much !! But , at the end of the day it’s a business and they expect a return on it. That’s how it works isn’t it ?
@BusDriverWalking you're correct, that's exactly how it works, but if you don't invest enough money in your business then it stagnates or fails, or in this case, falls apart. When you have the sort of money and resources that the owners have, you don't go begging for the locals to pay to fix things. They know what the pier means to Llandudno and they're using that to their advantage, just seems a bit out of order to me
I love watching a rough sea, but it is a concern for such a majestic pier, I was there in July for a few days, forgive for asking, but I noticed quite a few wind turbines offshore, are they new ?
Hi 👋, totally understand what you mean.. Storms are coming more frequently and more powerful in the UK these days. The windfarm has been there about 10 years now. Click the link below for more info. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏴 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwynt_y_M%C3%B4r
The owner said on BBC Wales that he did not own the Pier and he only looks after it. The newscaster quoted him as the owner, as does Google search. Confused yet? Owner must have buildings insurance otherwise he could not operate as a Trader. He will also have to have public liability and business insurance. So frankly, setting up a gofundme account for £250k to expect the general public to pay for the damage is not in my opinion entirely nor really ethical. Owner also bought the hole in the ground for £2m next to the pier to stop developers building on it. (Former Pavilion Theatre). I can't go to the vets and get my dog treated, then ask the public to pay my excess for my insurance or for the treatment. Owner has enough money, Owner is a millionaire, I think it's sad what has happened to the pier and all, but I don't agree it's right in asking the public to donate in order to pay for the damage. People can hardly make ends meet these days as it is. I think this is fair comment. I live here and I personally think it's a matter of ethics and principles, (Would the pier company step up and help pay for your car if it got squashed by a tree)? No chance, therefore, after what I have factually seen and heard, personally I won't be donating. The Pier Company can pay their own excess, and where I ask please, in stone is it officially written that a wrecked kiosk and roof repairs for the toilets will cost £250k? Not right this man, in my opinion, asking to take further from the community and the general public.
@@glyn-j1p I put the same comment down on the pier go fund me page that Mr Williams set up for £250k, it has now been removed and has other comments sharing the same view or opinion, you can now only give your thoughts if you donate to the page, which is somewhat ironic really. If you pay £1-2m for a relic, you can expect to reap the costs that responsibility involves on all aspects, not endeavour to scavenge £250k of the public. Is immoral if you ask me, particularly from somebody who's net worth is 6-£7m. Pay your own insurance excess and expenses and stop taking from the community. 👎😕

So sad to see; I was in Llandudno last week and walked along that beautiful pier and had a drink in the little cafe at the very end of the pier.
Yeah it’s sad , thankfully it wasn’t much worse.
The Cafe and Bar suffered roof damage I heard 😞🏴

It costs the owner a fortune in maintenace every year.! I used to work in the theatre that was burnt down in the 50``s and 60`s.
