They live in their recordings, and we'll have those to remind us of what they gave. I like to think that, perhaps, some civiliztion sixty light years out, with advanced electromagnetic receiver technology will soon be receiving Earth's radio transmissions, that Procol Harum will be on the play list, and that those beings might recognize the genius from this otherwise unremarkable patch of the sky.
It absolutely transforms you. I play it every day. They are all fabulous . The guitarist is so into his music, he's always so joyful. Love Matt, love drummer, totally love Gary Brooker. They are all just fabulous!!
One of the best performances ever heard from them and they deserve the acoustics and heritage of the Union Chapel. A Heritage Band in a Heritage Church.
Short intermission for a beer...gotta love it. Reminds me of a hot steamy night at the Ritz in Staten Island? when Gary pulls a can of brew from the cooler and says "Miller makes you tight " as opposed to Miller makes it right from their commercials. It's been many years since I've been to concerts but at least I got to see PH & PF in their prime at $6.00 US or less a seat a half dozen times each. Never saw PH with Fisher or Trower, though. I came back from the Nam in July 1971 so they had moved on.
Matthew Fisher e Gary Brooker ( morto recentemente) sono stati e restano la vera anima di questo gruppo, pietra miliare nella storia della musica mondiale. Grazie Procol Harum
AWESOME, THERE IS ONLY MATTHEW THAT CAN PLAY ANY PROCOL THIS WAY, AND IT IS THE ONLY WAY. AS MUCH AS I LOVE THIS BAND, IT SADDENS ME THAT HE IS NOT WITH THEM ANYMORE. NO ONE CAN GET THE TONE, FEEL, AND TECHNIQUE, THAT MATTHEW CAN FOR THESE SONGS. IT IS A SHAME
Yeah, I think I saw it in a record store near me. It might or might not be packaged along with a DVD video, I don't remember. But there was definitely a CD version in the package too.
Mr. Brooker, Garry if I may... I hate you. I love you. You drove me into my worst depressions, and, geniuos that you are, pulled me out again. Your music, Mr. Brooker, starting with The Whiter Shade Of Pale, will be in my mind untill they put me down. Thank you Sir.
This song is the quintescent essence of what we all hoped would show up one day from the genius of Procol Harum, after Whiter Shade of Pale.. It is perfect.
I bought 'The Well's On Fire' as soon as it came out. Even if the rest of the album were rubbish (and, needless to say, it isn't) this one track alone more than justified the price of the album. The very first time I listened to it, I found it completely overwhelming : it made my hair stand on end. Sadly, hearing a piece for the first time is an unrepeatable experience - but I still love it!
If anything ever is immortal, it is the unfading Procol Harum Weisselklenzenacht - The Signature!!! imperishable!!! And when Geoff Whitehorn comes on, I take off into the afterlife
This performance is probably the definitive live version. Only a band as incredible as Procol Harum could do this twice! ( Repent Walpurgis) It literally boggles the mind. And of course only someone as talented as Matthew Fisher could make it happen.
If you have this Union Chapel DVD and Ledreborg with the orchestra & choir you have all that brilliant Procol music covered. Two great performances. (I was at both gigs)
This concert at The Union chapel gives me a unique feeling every time I listen to it.It is my favorite music when I travel alone in the car.Comparing with today’s music this has so much more feeling, dynamic and substance.
I sincerly do agree with you, I'm 21 but this kind of music has no equal. Mostly when you compare it with the "all but not musical songs" here in France. Commercial music which makes wretched souds, to me
@@PhukIT1865 Geoff Whitehorn is the same level of guitarist as Robin, just without the name. His work with PH is actually more thorough if you listen to a full concert. Robin would probably agree.
@@jduff59 honestly I think Robin Trower is very overrated but GW's work bores the hell out of me. just one tired cliche riff following another. I enjoyed the hell out this until he started playing his too loud riffs.
Quite good? Good enough to play with McCartney, The Who, Roger Chapman and Paul Rogers.... and of course Procol Harum who have had 3-4 great guitarists in their 40 years.
This filmed concert is beautiful. I wish I had been there. and this track that seems quite inspired by JS Bach (like Repent Walpurgis) is one of the highlights of The Well's On Fire. Geoff Whitehorn plays a splendid guitar part on it and obviously enjoy it a lot !
Para mim Procol Harum é uma das maiores maravilhas do rock clássico desde seu surgimento em 1967 - tocam com emoção suas músicas e sempre nos encantam !!!
I loved that during the sixties there were groups that seemed to try to mix classical influences into rock that made the pop charts. Of these the Procol Harum and Left Banke were my favorites.
@@carvcom1 Michael Brown of the Left Bank wrote a bunch of music, some of it quite lovely that appeared on an Album (CD) in 1994 called "On This Moment" on which he plays keyboards sung by Yvonne Vitale, with a somewhat unusual but haunting vocal style. Among my favorites is "Roosevelt High School". There are several other songs, like a lot that his family either has released posthumously or still intends to do. Michael Brown is unique and special.
RIP Sir Gary Brooker I for one miss you, see you in the next life
I wish Garry Brooker, Matt Fisher and every one of The Procol Harum would live forever and make our hearts trembling every time they play.

What if only I could let our Hammond scream in church every sunday like Matthew does.... It would be real praise music.
Simple but wonderful number with moving chord changes. It exposes the thought processes of Fisher, with its subtle power.
What an instrumental.. Genius.. But when the guitar kicks in, it takes it another level.. Goosebumps🎸🎸😎🤘🤘
God speaks to u’s through the lead guitar!!!!!

Procol Harum
Matthew is so important to songs such as this, not to disparage any of the other organists from PH, but Matthew had a magic that I can always discern
Matthew manages (like Bach) to play several melodies at once. There's a second one and sometimes a third one.
This song gives me the chills every time I hear it....
Couldn't have put it better
One of the greatest songs ever written. Thank you Matthew!
Perfection-perfect setting perfect backdrop for this piece and more to follow after “a short intermission for a beer”
