Applauding the fire department, all the first responders (law enforcement included), for this attempted rescue with ultimate recovery. Looks like the City of Riverside has a very capable technical rescue team.
Such a horrific situation and my heart aches for this poor mans family. So often I've watched trees like these being trimmed and never knew such an awful thing could occur. Our fire crew did a phenomenal job under such precarious circumstances trying to save the life of this man and ultimately bringing him down from the tree.
Just by looking at those trees, they should have trimmed them a long time ago. Make note everyone: if you own trees, they have to be trimmed every year. Now the owners will unfortunately live with this trauma for the rest of their lives. Prayers to the trimmers family and everyone.
Seen this happen several times on the news.. Tree trimming is a dangerous occupation, and this poor man was working hard, and trying to do his job trimming palm fronds, without the right gear or training...Very tragic loss!
7:49 We got rid of a green palm tree ourselves. The frongs weigh a lot. Falling on you can cause injury or death (broken neck/back). If you own a home or under mortgage ALWAYS HIRE LICENSED, BONDED & INSURED CONTRACTORS. LESSON: Pay up to $1,000s for the trim or $100,000+ for injury or death
This is why they recommend using bucket trucks they trim from top to bottom for these type of trees. They were working from bottom of fronds and working their way up (my guess), that’s how he became trapped. The fronds are extremely heavy. This is due to lack of experience or not understanding how to safely cut these palms.
Bucket truck is great. To climb those it's recommended you throw your climbing line up and over the top of the palm so you could work from the top down as you mentioned. It's hard to make a good decision when you don't know where the danger is coming from.
I have never heard of tree trimmers being killed by the fronds of the palm tree falling down on them and suffocating them. Maybe localities with a substantial amount of palm trees should require a permit by the property owner to have the trees trimmed so the property owner knows there are dangers to having palm trees trimmed and the work should be done by qualified companies.
Sadly this keeps happening. Homeowners need to know this is one of the most dangerous jobs and others have been killed. You must hire a fully licensed, insured, and capable company that uses a crane for the workers to trim these overgrown palms. These workers are usually poor latinos that are just trying to make a living and are being exposed to dangerous conditions by their employers. RIP ✝️ 🙏 💐
Was he on a ladder?? Are the palm fronds just holding his body up? Did they take the ladder out from under him? I’ve never been confused. How was he trimming the tree?? Where is the ladder? I have so many questions
I think the ladder was for the recovery. These are common accidents when not done right. He must have had his rope around the tree. He was starting from the ground, working his way up. You can pull one dried frond, and the whole stack of fronds will slide down the "pole". Since he's tied in, his legs and waist aren't going anywhere. So all that weight is pushing down on his chest basically trying to fold him backwards. There are videos of people surviving this. Usually when the stack of fronds aren't as heavy as this unfortunate fellow. My prayers are with his family.
As a trimmer myself. He more than likely was spiking up the tree with a harness and a flip line. Once you get to the dead fronds, and you started shaking them they will all fall and cover you, either suffocating and or braking you back etc etc. Terrible situation, unfortunately these guys are trained to do it the safe way which does take longer but 100 times safer. You start from the top down.
Could never understand why they start at the bottom and climb up the tree to trim. The fire fighter started at the top and cut down to reach him. Of course being 75 I don't know it all. Rest in peace and my condolences to the family.
This Is Terrible. I Have A Question, I Have Not Lived Where There Are Palm Trees That Long, Why Do They Let The Trees To Get That Bad?? First They Look Terrible, And Now Knowing This Is Possible, Something Should Be Done. Thanks
The trimmers are cutting these type of trees wrong. I am sure they told the homeowner no problem they can do it. They probably have cut before like this, but it’s the wrong way. Needed tree trimmers experienced in this, they would have had bucket trucks or a lift to cut fronds from top down.
Wow, my landlord finally just removed tree palms that were not taken care of properly by them for many years. After numerous storms and safety concerns along with numerous safety complaints by tenants they finally removed them now I only have to nag them to remove the dead pine tree that they didn't remove before it falls on our building the roots are cut and in one of these nasty storms it will come down on the building and probably take out my upstairs neighbor. I can't stand cheap landlords that charge high rent in Silicon Valley but do absolutely minimum. On top of that, having a worthless property management like cornerstone management suck.
Pretty much a Cap’n Obvious comment here, but palms add a whole new level of problems when approached wrong, in a pretty damn dangerous line of work to begin with.
Are you for real.......... This man suffocated to death. And? You're gonna ask a foolish question like that....... Shame on you........ And by some of the pictures that I saw it was a very ugly sight.......
I don't understand how he was trapped. The way the firefighters trimmed the palm tree seemed harmless. Unless he was under the skirt trimming hence the skirt falling on him trapping him...I don't see any other reason/way he would have gotten trapped 🤔🤔 maybe I'm missing something? I'm so confused
This is a common incident with palm trees. He did start from the bottom up, so pulling one dead frond could cause the whole bundle to come down on his chest. Since his legs and waist were stationary, it crushed him trying to fold him backwards. You can still climb these, but it should be done from top to bottom for this reason.

Fronds,not "frongs"
Prayers to the fallen tree trimmer. So tragic. 🙏🙏🙏

Any situation of hanging dead fronds should ONLY be trimmed from top down!😮
I had no idea this could happen. 😮😢
Me either
How did the lady even notice???

It happens frequently.😢😢😢
Make a law regarding palm trees. Keep them trimmed or take them out. No reason to get in that condition on inhabited property.
Best comment right here!
Great coverage on your part! Sad and sorry to see the loss of the tree trimmer. Seems like palm tree trimming is quite complicated, and risky.
Thank you, and yes, they are. These incidents are actually and sadly faily common.
so sad...heartfelt condolences to the family.
Good God I've never heard of such a thing.
What a horrible way to go.I'm sorry for the family.

Not to mention scorpions, and bee hives inside
Also trim once a year not every 10 years. It’s like $50 a tree depending
So awful. Prayers
So sad. Who would have thought this job could be dangerous. RIP, dear sir. Condolences to your family.
Everyone?
Were there other trimmers with him? Who alerted the authorities to the accident? RIP, to the man who was lost. 😢 I’m so deeply sorry. 💔

My condolences to his family and rip🙏🏻 sir.
RIP to the tree trimmer
Offering up my prayers 🙏

I was thinking the same thing!!
that's a tough scene...well done City of Riverside Fire...
Doesn't it make sense to have trimmers who have the expertise to assist in the rescue?
Absolutely
This Is Terrible. I Have A Question, I Have Not Lived Where There Are Palm Trees That Long, Why Do They Let The Trees To Get That Bad?? First They Look Terrible, And Now Knowing This Is Possible, Something Should Be Done. Thanks
I live in California, there are so many palm trees. I’m not sure :/. I live in an apartment complex and usually a team comes to trim.
some homeowners may not be able to afford a trim
It's expensive.

How did that happen??
How did the man got trapped inside those leaves?
My condolences to his family. My nephew stumbled and the palm fell on him.

So he got crushed to death?? 😢 awful... RIP...
They finished trimming the tree?
How sad.
R.I.P to the victim my thoughts are with his family
T-1 is a bad ass truck
Pretty much a Cap’n Obvious comment here, but palms add a whole new level of problems when approached wrong, in a pretty damn dangerous line of work to begin with.
Are the fire guys having a mustache contest?
All homeowners with palm trees that need trimming should learn from this .... only hire contractor using cherry picker to trim fronds from top down!
The firefighters is trimming the trees for them.
New job / for firefighters Xtra pay
It shouldn't be repeated again.
Very sad.
Damn. I thought it was going to be uncensored
😮😢
I’m guessing this is somewhere in the Hawaiian islands??
🙏🌹🙏
I think that kind of job is very dangerous 😞… may he 🙏Rip🙏
how many men does it take to get one out of a tree?
Are you for real.......... This man suffocated to death. And?
You're gonna ask a foolish question like that....... Shame on you........ And by some of the pictures that I saw it was a very ugly sight.......

🙏🙏🙏🙏
Always gotta get a strip, no matter how dead ya think they are 🫤

You’re not alone. I’m just as confused as to how this happened.
Seriously I’m so confused
Im lost too

@@isaacmartinez7435 oh wow 😮 so he was probably bent backwards and couldn’t move enough to escape the weight. That is so so sad!! 😞 🙏🏻
conque hubieran llamado a Lupillo Santiago sobraban todos
You gotta show all of it including the body you cant learn anything with edited videos
R.I.P. 😔
I don't understand why the dead palm fronds don't just fall to the ground ...
Why was no video shown of the victim being extracted from the tree?🤔 We could learn from this.
What a hideous way to meet the "GRIM REAPER."😱🙈😫
I hate palm trees.
Triste !!!!!alguien dijo no todos los trabajos son para todos !!!!!🫢🔴🤫one job of one ,became of more than one !!! 🫢🔴🤫sad!!!!🤫 9:15
