Sticking to pavement, dirt roads and the occasional lite trail is probably its limits as mentioned and of course it folds up into the back of the Tesla Model Y, but as you can see I like to push the limits here and there. A proper mountain e-Bike with suspension would be a much better, smoother and safer ride on a trail as advanced as Slick Rock at Moab.
I too sold my perfectly fine 2021 RAM Limited 5.7L HEMI V8 with eTorque and traded it for a MYLR with HW4. Woot woot. Already been playing with the camping set up with trifold mattress and collapsible toilet. Plenty of room for the fridge / freezer, Bluetti, and luggage. So excited for new adventures. Have yet to attach the Yakima cargo box and swing out. Have fun and stay safe.
@leviflint I was exactly the same as you. Sold my 2016 Subaru Outback (a car that I loved) for a Model Y LR. My 9 year old is obsessed with Teslas and I thought it would be so much fun to roadtrip with him experiencing the unique adventure of charging as we go. Have had my MY for 3 months. No regrets so far.
I’m a little behind but finally got to watch today. Glad you made it out of there. As you were going down the only thing I kept thinking was how is he going to get back up. As always thanks for posting. Really enjoying this 30 day series.
Ha! Yeah, I didn't think that one all the way through. I guess I thought I'd just figure out another way back up, but there really wasn't any other ways. Definitely won't be making that mistake again 😀 I think the views were probably worth it though. Haha. Thanks for tuning in!
Hey Bryan!! I have been watching you for years and super encouraged to buy a Model Y. 😁 Plans to order in Aug or Sep!! Sooooo freaking excited. First I want to say I watch ALL of your videos and this one really got to me. 😒 PLEASE be freaking careful. While I enjoy how entertaining you are and all of the super advice you offer.... your life is more important. I was super worried about you on that hike and even on the bike in that terrain.🥴 We love you and we want to see more of you. Please take good care and not chances !! 🥰
Ahhh, thanks Deborah! ❤️ I definitely learned my lesson and won't be doing things beyond my skill level going forward and will make sure I'm always carrying a first aid kit and any needed supplies just in case. Very exciting that you're ordering your Model Y soon! When you do order, please use my Tesla referral code. I put it in every video description, but I'll leave it here as well. You'll get $500 off your Model Y + 3 free months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) by using my link: ts.la/bryan62838
@@bryanhauer Awesome. Didnt mean to sound like a grind, just felt so bad for your fret and I also didnt realize what was going to happen to get safely out of the situation until you explained it... as you mentioned it was hard to grasp the inclines/declines from the camera angles. SO glad you got out of it with only lessons learned and a bada$$ sunburn lol .... Going to use your referral code when I order. I'll touch base to make sure it's all good when the time comes. Looking forward to your next 30-Day segments !!! Thanks for a quick response, Superstar!!
Having been to that area a few times I can appreciate the challenges that are presented. Just hang in there and you'll get used to rock formations like that (referencing when you were on foot). Thanks for the footage from a fellow Model Y camper.
Yeah, that bike isn't built for that which I mentioned a couple times and doesn't have a suspension, but it worked (albeit rough) and I don't plan to push it that hard very often. Still a ton of fun, just a bit more exhausting that it probably should have been.
So true! You can hear me doubt that I should even go down in the first place, but talked myself into it. I should have listed to my instincts. Of course the view was worth it, but getting back up was another story 😳
Thanks Susan! Yeah, it's gorgeous in that area. One of my favorites to camp in. Also definitely learned to listen to my instincts and not try to do things that are beyond my skill level.
Appreciate you making these great videos and taking us along for the adventure! Just picked up a 2023 Model Y AWD. Could you share your all time mi/wh? Considering you do long roads trips I’d be curious to see consumption.
Thanks Cameron! I’ll have to look on the screen when I get a chance as I don’t remember how to bring up the all-time number. That would vary widely depending on roof rack, location elevation and weather. I’ll see if I can find it though.
I have been to Moab now doing something I never thought I would ever do. Thank you for bringing us along. I’ve got my wife watching your videos now. Be careful out there. We want to follow you on more adventures. But I must admit it was exciting.
Thanks so much! I hope to go on a lot more adventures so not planning to push my boundaries too far until I get a bit more skilled. It sure was exciting though 😀
Slippery Rock bike trail huh? They said it would be fun. I’d call that a solid blue diamond considering the bikes limitations. Great e-bike - and I want one, but that looked scary. Good thing they didn’t point you to the black diamond Mount Doom of Mordor bike trail! Gotta admit I got sweaty palms watching this one. I was a mess watching Free Solo. Anyway thanks for another great video - the e-bike really adds a lot to your channels content.
Thanks so much! I can say I love having it as I get to explore so many more places when traveling which makes editing the videos also more fun 😀 And that bike was definitely not meant for those trails, but it was still a lot of fun. Sticking to pavement, dirt roads and the occasional lite trail is probably its limits, but as you can see I like to push the limits here and there.
@@bryanhauer Hey, since you switched to the rear cargo box I noticed that you’re using a roof shade now. How’s that working out? And is it one you’d recommend? I have the Evannex window covers that includes the roof cover with the suction cups, but have never used it. I think I’d come nearer using it if it were easier to install and take down. Probably couldn’t go wrong just getting the one from Tesla, but sometimes the aftermarket gets it right for a fairer price. Thanks!
@@bluedog9935 Yeah, the rooftop one from EVANNEX is trash (the rest of the set is great) so I currently use a different company, but it's not great at staying up either and isn't currently available (although it's complete blackout). I do have a new one coming up that was sent to me that looks very promising and will be doing a review within the next couple weeks so stay tuned for that.
Right on, ma' dude. We're probably swinging by some of these spots in July. Road tripping from Miami, Florida to the Tesla Takeover in California again but this time in my new Model Y LR, which is getting a nice "adventurey" custom treatment the next couple of weeks. Cheers!
are you able to leave the rear box hinged open like that for long periods? I can imagine if you're near the vertical weight limit, the twist force may be an issue when so far out from the rear of the car?
No issues at all. If you watch some of my recent camping videos from Sedona and the Grand Canyon you'll see that I use a piece of wood to relieve some stress, but it's not really needed. I do it when I know I'm going to be in a spot a few days with the swing base open, but I've also done it without and never noticed any issues.
I didn't. I wish I would have done a front PPF, but it's just so expensive. I just use Armor All Bug and Tar Remover with a microfiber cloth and it comes right off.
curious if there iOS a differentiation between 'electrically assisted pedal bikes' where the motor only helps while you pedal - usually limited to 15mph or so, and those that are more like motorbikes with a throttle lever and can do 30mph? I don't see why you'd restrict the former and should be able to ride them anywhere a regular cycle can go?
Just to keep others from parking there. I've had issues previously with my car there and while I'm gone where people end up parking in my site. Just a simple way to let others know.
Not at all on this trip. Nice thing about Moab is the Supercharger is about 15 minutes from most of the camping spots. I've probably been to over 100 campgrounds with my Model Y and only a few times did I have to even worry about range. Glacier National Park is the only one that has given me problems when planning so have yet to do it, but even that one has a Supercharger going in later this year. Usually it's not an issue in my experience. For Camp Mode, plan on a little less than 1% range loss per hour.
The views you bring is always awesome, safety first glad you chose not to film your ascent and do that as safely as you can. There will always be great footage somewhere. Stay safe
Thanks! I was a bit bummed that my SD card on my chest cam filled up just before I got to that spot as it was pretty crazy. Definitely learned a lesson and will stay within my limits going forward.
For sure. I have one, but I think I forgot it on that trip or maybe was buried under stuff as I couldn't find it so resorted to water and hand sanitizer 😬
I know... weird right? 😀 I actually did one, but it was more in the camping part which I'll show in the next video and didn't make sense in the context of this one.
Bryan, always enjoy your videos but you absolutely have the wrong bike for Moab trails. Moab is the best place in the country for Singletrack mountain biking. Have been there many times biking with my adult sons and honestly would not be a fan of riding e-bikes on the slick rock trails. Glad you were not injured but leave the e-bikes for other types of trails.
Thanks Dan! To be fair I made that very clear in the video when I first got onto the trail that the bike wasn't meant for those trails, so yes, I know 😀 As I mentioned, I've also taken my Model Y off-road so I like to push the boundaries. Of course a bike with better suspension that's made for those types of trails would be better, but I rarely do those types of trails and to be honest... it was a blast regardless. So while I'll mainly use that bike for roads and the occasional lite trail, I still had a ton of fun. My only injury came from hiking so all is good 👍🏻 In fact I had a deal with Specialized where I was invited to tour their facility prior to getting the Lectric eBike and they gave me a trail e-Bike and I actually used it in my Valley of Fire video a couple months ago, but didn't talk about it much as I decided as great as that bike was and how comfortable the ride was and how well known Specialized is for making incredible bikes... it just didn't work for my current setup as it's too big to fit in the back and I can't use a bike rack with the cargo box back there as the weight goes over the limit for a Model Y unfortunately. Anyways... appreciate you watching and for the comment 😀
