    Been playing almost 40 years and still learning never gonna be a master but these runs where the first thing i learned my brother and acomplished guitar and drummer would double up with me and it was the first time i felt like i was playing there pretty easy once you practice and it sounded really cool plus its great for your timming witch is probubly one of the most important parts of being a good bass player.

      Glad you like them Russell. The walk-ups are pretty easy when you understand them but so useful in lots of bass lines.

    I've played Bass for almost 40 years, but I still come back to "Basic"-type channels. I picked up some bad habits. I can tell when the guitar player does minor chords and I adjust accordingly in cliched patterns, but I don't know enough about alternative patterns that could add a subtle hint of melody. But I can improvise.I learned thru instinct/ear with horn-driven material like Bobby Bland, Van Morrison, Paul Butterfield, etc and live improvisation. I KNOW that I should know more music theory but I also appreciate instinct and experience. I didn't know I was "raking", "pedaling", or "playing the third" before I found it in songbooks. Better to know what you're understand, and why. I had the same experience with reading books. Thank you! You are a Teacher.

      Good to hear your story Terry. I definitely recommend learning some theory as it helps to understand and learn but it’s great that you’ve got a good ear and can hear what the other musicians are playing.
      A combination of both these skills really help.

    Very nice lesson - so simple but so effective and really changes the dynamic of the song!

      Yeah you’re dead right with changing the dynamics of the song 👍

    💜My ultimate goal, is to play the Bass like T-Bone Walker. The stuff he did around the time of BB King et al.💜

      Yes that was a great era. You’ll get there, just keep on enjoying yourself and working on your playing.

    This is something like approach notes bellow and above???

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can also call these notes ‘approach notes’.
      If you remember that you need three frets above or below the root note you are moving to then you’ve got it!

    Sometimes the guitar player mixes minor and major chords, not always intended or within the proper progression within the Song.... Sheesh!...Is that when it becomes "Jazz"? ....I think it's funny. I like jazz.

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😂 That sounds like Jazz!
