    man, this would make a killer homegamer paint booth for repainting cars if it was like 5 feet longer. 17 feet is too close to the actual size of most cars to be useful in that way.

      At $179 on sale you could butt two of them together and have all the length you need. I still think it would be a little narrow. Great idea though to paint parts or motorcycles maybe?

    It took me 3 days. Lasted 6 months. Pooling water and wind caused it to collapse. Most of the assemble time was trying to level. Site prep is critical. Anchoring is critical. Having cover drum- tight is critical. Duct-taping joints during assembly is smart, as is wearing a hard hat. Putting a 3/4 inch pvc in the door hem is said to help roll up.

      @TRYtoHELPyou  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mary Tidwell sounds like it's warmer in your garage than outside. And there is moisture in the atmosphere... So either dry out the air or cool it down inside. If it must be hot inside, perhaps get a dehumidifier? Finally, warming up the layer of air on the surface of the garage, outside, will solve the condensation problem however it would be very challenging :)

      You may want to check into vents that can be put on the end panel, may help with condensation buildup, though it's meant for heat dissipation.

    I bought my first portable garage 3 years ago to shelter my boat and provide a shaded work area during the summer. It was great. That winter it was hit by a blizzard with a tremendous, sustained, north wind. The weight of the snow and pressure from the wind bent the frame and caused the shelter to lean to the right. The following spring/summer it was hit by a sustained south wind. My hope was that the wind, from the opposite direction, would straighten the frame. It didn't. It caused some of the joints to snap. But because I liked the shelter so much, I bought another one. This time I installed wind breaks (using the tarp walls from the first shelter) on the north and south sides. They worked extremely well and my shelter has now survived it's second year. I recommend it. Just don't expect it to be as strong as a fixed structure.

      Compared to what's in other people's lawns, this is objectively a beautification. I bet squeezing the ends some to slightly crimp them before inserting them would help keep them together too. Do you like the quality overall after it's up?

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I moved my "carport" to the back yard and it's now a cover for my kids' swings. I bought it with the intent to use it to shade me while I film videos (majority of my videos are vehicle repairs/detailing). I may add wheels to the legs so I can roll it around. It's a pain to move it myself and when moved you always have to fear it will blow away.

      I like the ground - Earth energy. But I did Bronze Age double wattle walls with 6 to 8 inch clay slip straw as insulation. Then silicone tarps on willow log gable rafters. I think I will maybe throw my tent over it for better air closure - and another tarp on top of that - but turn the length around so I get 2 foot eaves. Still trying to figure out how to do the stove with chimney. I then covered the walls with horse manure clay as daub. Threw it on like slop. Still finishing that. The roof as R-30 plus insulation! the walls are probably r-20. The end walls I'm still working on.

    This is one of the few things from HF that I would not recommend. The ratchet straps are garbage and don’t stay tight. The zipper broke in about 3 months. If you live in a very windy area, it will not last long, especially the back panel. There is also no replacement tarp for it when it wears out, and it will after a couple summers. If all you want is a shelter for a few months, and you don’t live in an area that gets bad T-storms or lots of snow, it is probably okay. Anything beyond that, and it is a waste.

      It did well overall. A neighbor down the street got one to cover his boat. We had a windy day and it's now an art piece on his lawn looking like a sinking ship. Use the anchors it comes with, they work well in the dirt. Also, self tapping screws, I would say now, are a must. We I have another one of these and it just dealt with some record winds. And has had decent buildup of snow on it this season. I will likely buy more of these due to their price for what you get.

      I like it still, while the first one didn't last after I punched a hole thru the top shoveling snow off (should have just left the snow), I like it. I ended up buying another a few weeks ago and it's now up in the backyard. Too much lawn equipment out in the elements. Very cool garages, I still recommend it.

    • @dagnabbit3383
      @dagnabbit3383 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TRYtoHELPyou I've had 2 of these in my backyard for 4 years. In the part of California that I live in there isn't any snow and we have HOT summers. I got 2 years out of the tops. I tried an 80.00 replacement top that matched but it only lasted 1 year. Because I'm on the side of my house in the backyard I decided to go with a heavy duty 18x20 tarp. Even new these aren't super pretty but much uglier now with an tarp over it.
      They seem to always tear on the top side of the cover where it makes contact with the metal pipes. I'm considering using flex tape along the top sides of the cover running it right on top of where the pipes are. I haven't priced this out but would think this has some potential to get another year or 2 out of an original canvas top.

    Thank you for reminding people about wind. In most of the U.S. this will be sailing over the next state in the first rain storm. If you don't anchor it with sincerity.

    This helped! Thanks. HF instructions are a little vague on what to do with the top cover straps. Don't really like the the way they are designed having them visible from outside. I found using duct tape ( what else) to secure the pipes together until I was happy with structure and then I added self taping screws to secure the section together. Nice and rigid now and the duct tape held the pieces together while I worked on it by myself. I would admit it could have been easier with another helper but not a necessity.

    I would probably have to go with shelter logic because I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma access cab and the harbor freight is not long enough,,, in my area these little shelters garage deals are the best way to go because our county doesn’t tax you for them so as long as there’s not an actual true foundation,,, go to the Quarry and get some stone and dust mixed and spray the ground for weeds put stone and dust down and roll it to pack it tight probably last a good long time

    I would like to mention to people considering this garage is you can buy replacement ends and top tarps from Harbor Freight, add /parts to the URL to get there. The tarp top last about 2 years, then water will start coming thru.

    i had the same shed , but mine was a 10 by 17 from harbor freight . in 2 years your roof is going to split apart and you will have to cover the frame with a tent that you will continually have to buy if you want to use it. but for a quick fix if you cant order a carport or a real shed due to finances at the time this is a quick fix. 140 bucks for 2 years and 2 hours worth of work still not bad . but in the long run your throwing away money because they dont make replacement canvass for it .

    Using tape to hold the pipes together will prevent them from coming apart during assembly. It is designed for the cover to pinch the pipes and hold it all together. But of course that doesn't work till the cover is on.
    The self tapping screws are a good idea.
    If you live in snow country, I strongly suggest tying rope to support the roof so it can't sag. I put two ropes between each of the pipes on the roof. Tie the rope to one of the upper side rails, pass over the roof raill and tie off on the other side rail. I used a truckers hitch to make certain I got them good and tight. That will prevent the snow from causing a sag in the material which can create so much weight it bends the poles. I have seen guys add metal poles but that is a lot more expensive and may not be necessary if your ropes are tight. Otherwise I suppose you could use ratchet straps.

    I bought one of these. It was awesome....... for a week,.....then a storm hit and completely destroyed it. Bent the hell out of it at every joint. The metal tubing is very weak and thin. If you could put it up where wind will never hit it, it would be great.

    I got a bad pack and I'm not very strong. But... I got a brain and hauled it myself. I used a folding cart (just search youtube for a folding cart, something like magnacart). Cart handle was like 10 feet short but I held the box on the opposite side. Think, think, think and you can do anything. Or just use a friend :)

    Just built the tent , and just like you I was amazed to see that I took almost 3 hours to build this myself , it’s good to have a
    Impact gun
    Impact Drill
    Stainless steel screws
    Each individual pipe and bend should get a screw , it makes it way sturdier and when it came to the door and rear , my luck as yours the belt lasso came out the other end and was stick trying to install it back I end up using the ANTENNA from my truck that screws off , I tied a knot and fed it threw it help a lot
    So far very pleased and the price has when up on it but its worth the dollar
    $229 plus tax
    Highly recommend for a car , storing the law mower and other miscellaneous items

    I bought and build one of these about 4 years ago the tarp that covers it only lasted 2 years I did put self tapping screws on every joint problem was when I went to tear it down the self tapping screws had bent the outer pull into the inner Pole and I couldn't get the poles apart very easily so long story short the frame itself is still sitting in the yard no tarp . Nice while it lasted though.

    thanks for the vid.....very helpful.....just putting one up.....was confused at the ends; maybe the instructions should have said to put the ends on BEFORE you put it all together and then have to take it back apart..(just a thought)...also would have been MUCH easier if they would have made the hem flap like an inch bigger and you could put the pipes IN them and make it 10 times stronger...(just another thought)...assembly
    just in it's infancy....will probably have something else to complain about tomorrow....;)
