Watching beat em ups back to back made me realise even more why Streets of Rage series shines above them. Once it makes its appearance, the amazing music and character design becomes apparent.
I miss those days, I am 36yrs and I am still playing. My favorites Beat em up games are Streets of Rage 2, Final Fight, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time, Golden Axe II, Double Dragon 2, X-Men The Arcade, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Heavenly Swords, Knights the round table, Batman Arkham Knight, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, Comix Zone, Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, God of War III, Final Fight Street Wise, Battletoads & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rise to Honor, Spiderman 2018, and soon Streets of Rage 4.

Final Fight will always be my favorite of the arcade bunch. I remember getting to the bay side level, or whichever one's close to the end, but ran outta quarters. It'd be the first game i'd look for in any arcade i went to. These are all bringing back memories

I remember playing Splatter House 3 on Sega Genesis as a child. I rented it during a weekend when my parents went on a vacation so it was just me and my brother and sister in the house. Dark, alone, at night and it was amazing. One of my favorite memories!

I wish legit arcades would make a comeback. I remember starting college at Nicholls State University and finding the arcade in the student union for the first time. They had Street Fighter 3. I was blown away.

Oh my! I found it, finally! Captain Commando. The game of my childhood, when I was maybe 6 years old there was a Arcade Cabinet club not so far away from school I used to come around every day after classes and watch someone play it, brilliant. There was also arcade cabinet with another pure classic best of the best games made ever Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, what glorious time!

My top 3 Beat ‘em up games are 1. TMNT 4: Turtles in Time for SNES, 2. Streets of Rage 2. And 3. Golden Axe 3. Though, I have to acknowledge that Streets of Rage 2 is better, but TMNT 4: Turtles in Time holds more appeal to me because I’m a big TMNT fan.
What an awesome collection of games! Many I have played, and many I've never seen before. It was so worth mowing the grass to spend my hard earned allowance at the local arcades. Bad Dudes, Final Fight. Golden Axe, Sengoku and TMNT were some of my favorites. I'm always bummed to see that Sega never includes the arcade port of Golden Axe in home console collections. The Genesis version was missing subtle details. Gilius Thunderheads axe wasn't even gold. Wish I could play Golden Axe Death Adder, Metamorphic Force, and The Punisher, they look righteous. To bad more software companies don't release arcade collections for PS4/XB1. There is something about the arcade ports that are magical. Shinobi, Tron, and the Disc's of Tron will always be my top three favorite arcade titles.
@8:07 i was so relieved you didnt miss river city ransom. this game was insanely ahead of its time in so many ways. the rpg elements, the co-op, the physics (if someone threw a rock at you, you could hit it back), the background actually being in play (you could get on top of the park benches and some roofs)... just... wow.
Return of Double Dragon ( japanese SDD) is stilly fav beaten up off all time.when I come to fight choreography...yes there was a fight choreographer for this game...the martial arts action was soooo advanced for it's time...first game I ever played with counters and reversals in a beat em up
Arcade FF1 and Mighty final fight are the only strong games they had and FF1 is now very old, swarms of enemies thrown at you randomly, AI is ridiculous, the whole game is just a MASH fest designed to make you spit money. Its simple, fighting game in late 70's created the genre, double dragon popularized it, final fight defined all the rules and perfected them. I respect that but say it's still relevant is just pure nostalgia. FF2 is a big pile of dog shit, FF3 could've been a good game if they actually polished it and made it harder.

Yeah I agree with you it was perfect back then but now you can easily point out its flaws especially AI its very old now still good tho. I also play only Real bout 1 sometimes never tried Ff2 or Ff3 but 1st game is the most solid generally that applies to most of games in my opinion

It ate my money so damn quick lol. It seemed like you only had to be shot once or twice and you died, and you needed more credits after credits. But pleased to say, after 30 years, I've finally completed it.🤦♂️😂

Games today are seriously lacking in beat em ups, that bud specer/terrence hill one was great, though! I played all of them, both physical media and emulators, i'm dead serious, i played every game on gamefaqs that's listed as a beat em up. Ineed more, dammit! Streets of Rage 2 is the king and a contender for one of the greatest games of all time!!!
It is one of my favourite games of all time. I think I've replayed it more times than any other game. My brother and I worked our way up to being able to beat it on Mania difficulty starting with only one life. Now that was an achievement.

The snes of DD & BB was superior but the nes was fun and hard as well. Battletoads arcade and Battletoads Battle in Battlemaniacs were like the best Battletoads in terms of mechanics, fun and even graphics.

Great video there so many memories. played so many of those we had a kewl arcade close to a local Kmart. I trying to figure out a game I played back then. You had 2 characters a red and a blue like ninjas, I think they thru shurikans or boomerangs. It was really kewl. Graphics were mad I thinking around 1992 to 1995. Moinwalker was one of my favorites back in the day. I could get to the final stage on one token. Also TMNT, Mutant Fighter. Jungle Boy to name a few.

What a great list, i have played most of them and i loved each one but Streets of Rage will always have its own place in my heart.

41 and still play retrogaming games alone ... and now with my 3 sons (3, 5 & 7 years) who get the virus of arcade games like their father since Final Fight 30 years ago during summer holidays with my brother in Saint-Cyprien (FRANCE) . Missing tons of SNES games: Legend, Sonic Blastman 1 & 2, Rival Turf, Brawl Brothers, Peacekeepers, Pirates of Dark Water, Iron Commando, War of the Gems, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse, Death and Return of Superman, Ghost Chaser Densei and more. But this is still a GREAT list, thanks!
Games today are seriously lacking in beat em ups, that bud specer/terrence hill one was great, though! I played all of them, both physical media and emulators, i'm dead serious, i played every game on gamefaqs that's listed as a beat em up. Ineed more, dammit! Streets of Rage 2 is the king and a contender for one of the greatest games of all time!!!
It is one of my favourite games of all time. I think I've replayed it more times than any other game. My brother and I worked our way up to being able to beat it on Mania difficulty starting with only one life. Now that was an achievement.

Too many memories, “consoles killed the arcade gods.” Wasn’t à sega nerd but all the NES releases you’ve shown I’ve beat. Miss those days.... big shout out to P.O.W. Unforgiving and well worth the battle.

From this list I missed only 4 games but I have played 99% of this list video, I really enjoyed playing games in my life.

Good o' 80's and 90's. Miss those arcades. Just awesome place to chill and waste time. Nothing beat getting on a arcade machine with others and help beat a game like X-men,Tmnt, simpsons. Best days when things where normally and innocent

Great work. Impossible to include all but i missed After War from Amiga 500 and Power Rangers from Megadrive. Maybe not in a list of the best ones but they are part of my childhood

The snes of DD & BB was superior but the nes was fun and hard as well. Battletoads arcade and Battletoads Battle in Battlemaniacs were like the best Battletoads in terms of mechanics, fun and even graphics.

Great video there so many memories. played so many of those we had a kewl arcade close to a local Kmart. I trying to figure out a game I played back then.
You had 2 characters a red and a blue like ninjas, I think they thru shurikans or boomerangs. It was really kewl.
Graphics were mad I thinking around 1992 to 1995. The whole screen would erupt with special moves. It was a beatemup, Anyone remember this 1 by any chance.

Amazing video, anyone else here have the sega six pack with streats of rage? The Punisher (2 players) and X Men ( 4 players) were my two personal favorite arcade machine beat em ups growing up!
Was The Punished on the Sega 6 pack? I had the one with SOR, Golden Axe, Revenge of Shinobi, Columns, Super Hang On and World Cup Italia 90
@@sammylpt9076 the I had had all those games except World Cup of Italy. Those two games I listed were separate. Just my favorite live arcade machines growing up.
They were games of pure joy to play, I have a lot of happy memories. However the mystery of the two bronze statues before you fight the Gold Knights on level 7 of Golden Axe will always haunt me! Pig dude and man with a sword! Who were they?!?!
