I would call it European style not old money.
I grew up in a middle class family and my mother thought me since I was little to look for the quality of the clothes, what the fabric was made off and to think in the way that whatever is purchased has to last for a long time.
Well said! I love that! I love everything european, growing up in Brazil we were much more influenced by Europe than the US in the 70s. My mom too spoke in those terms: buy classic, buy long lasting, the best quality you can afford, take good care of it and you will have it for ever.
This is the classic style my mother taught me as a young teen (actually she started in elementary school). She dressed like this. I'm so glad she passed classic style down to me. Grateful 🙏

Glad you liked it!! And you are so right. Remember when we got dressed to go out as a courtesy to the people we were going to meet. You wanted to show them that you cared enough about them to put your best foot forward. There was a sense of dressing for the occasion... and jeans and a tee shirt wasn't it.

So true! YOU are so right. The title of this piece should have been classic dressing, but this Old Money Aesthetic is trending, but to me it is nothing more than CLASSIC.
Are you seriously trying to turn a fashion video into something political? Most of us come to channels like this for a respite from the incessant vitriol that pervades most political commentary these days.
But if so, sustainability -with emphasis on quality and longevity, and ethical manufacturing- is a key component of *progressive* values. Fast fashion is antithetical to environmental responsibility and fair trade practices.
Taking a more positive view, maybe “conservatives” and liberals -or at least some individuals within the two cohorts- can agree on the value of a classic, sustainable wardrobe, although perhaps with different motivations. If we look beyond current tribalism and ‘grievance’ politics, we’ll find many more areas of common ground.
@@altitudeiseverything3163 I am not sure what you mean, because we seem to agree on all points. And none of these pieces are fast fashion. Not to disappoint you or any of my viewers, I lean conservative. But I don't believe that sustainability is a "progressive" only attribute. I come from a long generation of conservatives, who believe in helping as much as we can conserve the earth. Personally, I don't think these are mutually exclusive, but you are entitled to your opinion. I don't think my channel is political. And I sure hope my viewers agree with me.

Yes, to anything that is not a trend and thank goodness, nothing cropped, boyfriend, boxy or dropped shoulder to be found. This style is just simple and classic it doesn’t necessarily have to be old money. The first round of outfits are my favorite.

Great minds... I might be assuming that you are over 35... I think we start realizing how silly name brands are around this age. Not to say that QUALITY doesn't matter. But I save my money for quality items (cars, furniture, clothing) that will withstand the test of time. But NO LOGOS! Unless I can't help it (like in cars, for example). Although I do drive a very old luxury car (and have been driving it for almost 15 years, with zero to minimum car issues). The same with my previous cars. Maybe I am just settled in my ways. LOL

I love these outfits! I think going with green, orange, or brown for the shoes, bag and sunshades for the first outfit would have made it look a lot more cohesive though. There's a popular "rule of 3" for how many colors to wear at a time that helps make outfits look less busy or all-over-the-place that would really work here to take this outfit to the next level. I'm very into trying brown with black this year though (I remember the days when we were told this was such a no-no! But it's a new trend and your outfits make it look really really good!)
The black pants' waist height is not flattering. I have a super short torso with larger bust too, so I also have this problem with very high waisted pants. They look so good on long torso models, but make short torso ladies with curvy busts like us look like our busts are sagging down to our waists. :( A midrise version would make those outfits perfect and elongate the torso a bit. Do you know if this pants brand offers a midrise option?
I don't know, but am totally loving the feedback. My sister gave me similar opinions on my color mix and match... sometimes I am so tired of trying on these outfits I just want to not wear the shoes and go shoeless... but that wouldn't have been very lady like of me. I live by the beautiful horse farm with a white picket fence… I told my husband yesterday I need to buy that property so I can wear the tweed jacket. lol we have an equestrian club in our neighborhood as well but only the kids take classes there. Hi Catherine..That had to be the best Front Door Fashion. I just watched Ralph Lauren's 2023 fashion show. He did not do the trendy, ugly clothes others are doing. I would have to buy the traditional blazervwith the leather trim and pockets. The white shirt looks great too. One of mynfavorite was the black with the silky pants and love an all black look ..or with some white. My husband thought your hair was gorgeous ( he's done hair for a long time) and he especially wanted to see the black streak and you delivered. I am so jealous everytime I see your hair. My husband said leave it long..tell her lol 😆. His high risk knee replacement is Wednesday. Take care and know you got a lot of compliments today from this house ...love the scarf with the trench...u need to be in a convertible for sure!! ♡♡♡ If I dont "see" you you know I will be busy caring for my husband.

Surgery sounds scary, but just remember that these expert doctors have the best technology now a days, so I know it will be a great success!!! Please tell him thank you for the kind words about my hair. LOL. I feel so honored that an expert professional thinks my hair looks great. Woohoo! And you take care of yourself. Drink some chamomile tea and try to get some rest. Nursing a family member can be daunting. I will be thinking of you two in your lovely little cottage full of love and history together.
Hi Catherine any husband’s knee, according to the one of best orthopedic doctors ( he has traveled all over, even to Australia to teach knee replacement classes) told me after the surgery that my husband had the worst knee he has ever seen. My husband will have a longer recovery than some, but he is doing his home pt and his twice a week professional pt. Thank you Catherine for your kind words and prayers. Our young priest visited a long time today. He looks like he is sixteen but is thirty five. He is short term which is sad because he is wonderful. I still say you would make a good neighbor. Watch that fashion show if you have time. I only have three pieces that are Ralph Lauren, a black sweater with gold buttons on the shoulder, a midi skirt that is beige with gold threads running through it and a metallic purse…all three purchased at estates sales and they are timeless and unless they wear out they are not going anywhere. I love that one jacket with the leather pockets. Thanks again. Oh my brother-in-law came and stayed three days. He is a retired nurse. He was a Godsend. He taught me how to give blood thinner shots in the stomach. Hugs ❤❤❤

Look at you giving shots... hehehheh. You will be a pro after this experience. Yes, it would be nice to have a neighbor like you. I love chatting up with my neighbor across the street. We even bring each other food sometimes just because. It is so much fun! She says I stalk her because she is in her 70's and I can see her driveway from my window so I am constantly sending her texts when I see that she is coming and going too much. She is always on the go and I tease her about it. The estate sale finds sound beautiful. Good for you! When I lived in Tulsa I used to go to Estate Sales... they are the best! Here in Houston I've never been to one. It is too spread out and you never know if it is going to be worth the trip. Hugs to you. I hope you are getting some rest. Clipping the mike to your shirt would make it a lot less distracting vs holding it. :) I saw in a later video on your channel that you're allergic to the foam around the mike, but it doesn't have to touch your skin if you clip it to the outside of your shirt or jacket collars.

LOL "Pantaloons" I think you meant palazzo style pants? I swear I'm not trying to be a troll, this just made me laugh so hard! Pantaloons are those knee length, super huge "shorts" with gathers around the knees that women wore under their dresses back in the 16th to 18th centuries to help make their dresses poofy. :D

While I love this style and wear it most of the time, the new name is just stupid. It's just classy, european style, british country, preppy and marine style. I have no idea why people seem to think that you need to buy highend designer stuff to look well dressed and "put together".
I agree. The other way people are calling this classic style of dressing is "quiet luxury" - but in that case, it is about ridiculously expensive clothing (made with special fabrics and craftsmanship though), without logos and labels. Either way, I would love to find reasonably price classics that will last a lifetime anytime. So if you have any tips, I would love to hear it. :)
Honestly, I think old money is nothing more than snobs! I will always respect new money over old money. New money was the guy that made it happen ! Old money is what your grand daddy passed down to you! Meaning had you nothing you’d never be able to create what he did! The fact ppl want to look like these snobs is absolutely ridiculous to me!
Unique opinion, Miriam. Well valid points. But at the end of the day, there is sustainability in wearing clothes that will last you a lifetime. There has been a high demand for quality, long-wearing pieces in recent months (we can see that in the search terms behind the scenes), resulting from the delicate geopolitical times that affect everyone's pocketbooks. My perception is that people don't want to look rich, but find validation that wearing quality pieces is a good investment at this time. As you might be able to see from the European viewers that have commented here... this is not old money, but the European way of dressing. There is a separate theme in the luxury wear, called "quiet luxury" where folks pay over $1K for a hat or $30K for a coat. Now that to me is just crazy!!!!
