I absolutely love how clear, concise and helpful this video is! Thank you so much. I've already pulled apart the radix thingy and cleaned it, and have now ordered my filters. Am hoping this will extend the life of my ten year old Dyson. Thanks so much, Alec. Cheers.
i checked that last night.. and pulled all the filters out and checked the suctions....and it made no difference... i'll dismantle the radix system.. i checked out your videos and they are very very helpful. i do appreciate the effort you go to to help us. thanks heaps mate
So this is July 18 2020. Alec, if you feel in need of a bit of praise - please accept my thanks for your very clear instructions. I’ve followed your them to clean my Dyson, now I’m off to buy new filters. Great stuff 👍
Hi Alec, I'm back again. WOW WOW WOW!!!! I cannot believe what a difference these simple replacements have made to this vacuum cleaner. Oh my goodness it is UNBELIEVABLE!!! The cleaner is so powerful, when it runs off the carpet and onto the tiles, the suction almost immobilises the cleaner! It's suction is so intense. It's so powerful you can see it lifting the carpet off the ground! And the amount of dust and dirt it now sucks up is just astounding. I have not stopped raving about this to all my Dyson-owner friends (and anyone else who'll listen!). About 3 of them have similar problems and are now doing the same as I did. Your easy to follow video has saved me about $900 in a replacement vacuum, and I am so very grateful. To anyone who doubts the improvement changing the filters might make, take it from me, you will be very happy with the result. As well as the result, the filters were considerably cheaper than buying from Dyson, plus they were delivered in about 2 days. Thanks again, Alec. I will definitely be using your services again.
So glad to have helped you Elisabeth :) Can I ask that you leave a review for our site on a review site like true local or something like that? it really helps our business to spread the word.
Elisabeth Crowe I've just posted on Product Review, but having trouble signing up for True Local. Will have another couple of ties later. If you can recommend any other sites I'm happy to post there, too.
Hi what is the name of your filter shop for both the filters for dyson dco8 please? I need both filters & the dyson has a hepa filter where you showed in the 2nd part on your video. Can i order both top & bottom filters hrough you?
Don't forget that the standard maintenance you should do on the DC08 is to remove the post motor filter and simply run them under cold water until you see a clean flow of water, and then leave in the sun or next to a heater for 12 hours to dry. NEVER put them back in while still damp. Regarding the HEPA filter, it is a lifetime filter, and providing you have registered your Vacuum with Dyson they will send a replacement out to you free of charge. We did this exact thing this morning. Called the 1800 Australian number, and in good faith they have arranged for us to have both filters sent to us for free.
Thank you so much! I am so happy I can finally put my vacuum back together. Took it apart last weekend to wash the filters and have not been able to get it to go back together. I have been on the Dyson website, asked my FB friends, asked my teenagers to try (I was desperate!), I even Face Timed my husband who is working interstate to no avail. I should of come to You Tube first. Excellent instructional video Alec. I will be going to your site to purchase any parts or filters I need and recommending to you to everyone!!! Thanks Clare
I had my filters in the wrong locations with the hepafilter at the top and vice-versa. I am sure the vac came like that as for quite a while I only knew about removing and cleaning the bottom filter which was the sponge and not the hepafilter. Thank you for your excellent videos.
holy chit - didn't even KNOW you had to clean these filters... I am not going to tell you how long I've had my dyson 08 ..out of sheer shame. Have done what you suggested and am now ordering a set of filters... Naughty naughty me...
hi alec, great video,is there any video on how to pull apart the head on dc08 as the rubber tube in my head has disintegrated and need to replace it, thanks darren nelson ,victoria
Great video, more informative than the Dyson manual and video on the Dyson site. A couple of questions though: 1) Is it OK to replace with non-genuine filters & do they work just as well as the genuine Dyson ones? 2) Can the HEPA filter be washed in water? I accidentally did this because I didn't read the Dyson instructions properly if for the washable filter. I assume I will need to replace it now. My DC08 is several years old so I should probably replace both filters anyway
Can you I use the hepa filter instead of the one that is already in my dyson, the plain white one? When I ordered a new filter, it came with a hepa filter.
Two things to check. 1. Check suction without filters at all - it is common for filters to look clean but perform like they are filthy. I generally replace them if they are over 2 years old. Don't actually vacuum up dirt without your filters just check the suction. 2. Dismantle the radix assembly and check the manifold for blockages. I have made a video showing how to do this called "How to pull apart and clean a Dyson DC08 radix assembly" just search that title and have a look.
Ive had mine nearly 15 years and never changed filter, no loss of suction but was just curious today how to do it after all this time lol.....the only problem i have is the plastic is starting to disintegrate
Alex I have this model Dyson, it seems to have lost at least 50% of its suction power... i've checked for blockages... cleaned and replaced the necessary filters etc.... but ... it still hasnt resolved the problem... is there anything else you can suggest I check ??
oops while looking for new vacuum for my mum, the salesman said there is a filter in dysons. I didn't know so today for the first time in 12 yrs I took them out and cleaned them. Never had any problem despite vacuming 2x a week and having dogs.
i got this exactly the same Dyson DC08 and i cant take the radix assembly part i am in the UK by the way so are the UK ones not designed to be takes apart? any help would be appreciated Thank you
@Parwaz786 I am 99% certain there is no difference between english and Australian dysons. I have made a video showing how to get the radix apart step by step though. Take a look at this it should help you out. The video is titled "How to pull apart and clean a Dyson DC08 radix assembly"
I got this vacuum handed down to me from my parents a while ago. I never knew until today that they had filters! Maybe that's why the suction is so shit.

Who’s finding this helpful in 2023? 🙌🏽✅

Thank you so much i was trying to replace the filter and could work out how to open it. Grrreat tutorial!!

Naughty naughty me...
Today I learnt my Dyson had TWO filters :o
Great stuff. However the white filter has a smooth side and a hairy side - which side should be facing towards me when installed please?
Brilliant video. Thank you for taking the time to post. It assisted me immensely
I must have watched this at least 20 times - really helpful, thanks:)

Hi There, Correct you can actually fit the hepa into the standard versions no problem.
Hi Alec, just wondering if you can help, is it true that you can wash the lifetime HEPA filter? thanks :)
Can you I use the hepa filter instead of the one that is already in my dyson, the plain white one? When I ordered a new filter, it came with a hepa filter.
Hello, thanks for your video. Where can I get filters for the Dyson DC08 HEPPA+ PARQUET model ? thank you, Danna
You are the bee's knees !! Brilliant mate !! Thanks so much
Hi Mate, on the second filter that you replaced if you have the standard filter can you upgrade to the HEPA filter? Thanks Andrew
BLESSED MAN. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME DISCOVER THINGS!
Still useful: many thanks from the UK!
I inherited a DC08 from my mother-in-law. Can I replace the bottom standard filter with a hepa fliter?
Thank you so much. Now my Hoover can be put together the right way. Very good work keep it up.

Can the old version filter be washed over hepa can’t
Alec you are a star! Many thanks, Ingrid.

Thank you
Thank you! We'd put the purple one in the top, and I was very confused. The manual isn't very helpful. :)
Hi Alec. Does the DC08 need the black foam seal to be stuck onto the bottom of the HEPA filter? Thanks
manofham No.
Well don't feel too bad I can assure there is a massive bucket load of people in the same boat. It is very very common.
Great site for Dyson vac mtce.
is it must to buy original filters for Dyson DC29 ??
Thanks I knew all that besides what way the filter went back in haha so thanks :)
@Parwaz786 I am 99% certain there is no difference between english and Australian dysons. I have made a video showing how to get the radix apart step by step though. Take a look at this it should help you out. The video is titled

Thank you!
I replaced the intake filter, just like in the clip, and wham. Suction doubled.
so I guess you can just buy the HEPA filter and stick it into the DC08, even if it actually came with the regular one?!
I got this vacuum handed down to me from my parents a while ago. I never knew until today that they had filters! Maybe that's why the suction is so shit.

My pleasure
