That’s why you’ll see Muay Thai fighters are so thin and skinny but their kicks are commonly estimated of the speed of a professional baseball player swinging his baseball bat

Being that I’ve done both I would say Karate is better for street fights. Now in my younger days the only reason why I would say is iffy is because I would stop after significant strikes. But once I learned Muay Thai it enhanced my karate and taught me a lot more depth but both should be trained. I’ve done Muay Thai for about a year and karate since I was 10 so 8 years. Karate is so good to me because of kata and repetition after a year. You start moving crazy in fights because you’ve been training motions non stop 3 times a week it becomes second nature. But the major drawback is point fighting that becomes drilled into you too. You get so damn good at speed precision and power and you start getting used to quick burst strikes but then you stop and reset. So do both I would recommend but if you just wanna learn how to protect yourself karate.

It's very interesting to see how people with different martial arts backgrounds try their best comparing other styles; say with Trevor with his taekwondo background, whenever he showcases karate kicks, they're sharper and seem more impactful (typical with taekwondo kicks), whereas say Nat Hearn with his karate background trying taekwondo, he doesn't have the same finesse with kicks and flexibility, which then shows the audience that he is indeed a karate guy. Nat Hearn utilizes the hook kick quite a bit in his demos and his roundhouse kick is somewhat different to Trevor's.

By training in various of the best muay thai gyms in Brazil i could see that If you have the finesse from Karate and the hardness from Muay thai you become very competitive against both, muay thai guys have a hard time catching your kicks that are way quicker and more variable and Karate guys have a hard time with leg kicks and full contact, it's very interesting.

Muay Thai - Hard blows, strength and overall power

For example, I do shotokan karate, which uses mostly open-handed techniques, which are never shown on videos. Muay Thai is more effective when you're closer to your opponent, karate when you can handle the distance

This fight would be very interesting, bc muay thai seems slow but strong and karate is fast but a little bit weaker, and this is what I think the battle would look like:
Karate is fast but not strong enough, so Muay thai would get hit but would be still standing
Muay thai is strong but slow, so he would get hit but couldn't hit, he would just try to hit the whole time but when he does, he would deal a powerful blow
    In short:
Muay thai would try to hit, but when he does the match is almost over
Karate would hit a lot but he needs to hit even more to win
