    For those of you saying that the umpire made a good call, Rauch was actually arguing about the strike zone from the last batter. The batter on first was supposed to be stuck out and the inning would've been over. That's why.

    According to the MLB the umps are correct on strikes and balls over 97% of the time. The league also reported that their on field calls are correct 99% of the time. I'm probably not going to get all in a wad if a few calls out of well over 100 pitches per team don't go my way with an accuracy rate like that, especially when he players play accuracy is nowhere in the neighborhood most nights.

      That's not what they were arguing though. Rauch was mad because the two pitches prior to that one were called balls even though they were right down the pipe. Rauch was telling Marquez that run is on him since his strike zone was absolutely horrific that day. There never would have been a hit resulting in Utley sliding in safely if Marquez had called at least one of the two previous pitches correctly.

  • @instertrandomname
    @instertrandomname 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay. I know I'm getting in this a little late. This wasn't about the play at the plate. It's about the guy scoring when they thought the inning should have been over. Rauch thought he should have got some calls on Howard (who was on first, I believe) that were borderline, didn't, run ends up scoring after Rauch thought he had got 3 outs. Hence, argument.

    You people are missing the point. It's not a matter of safe or out, the runner was clearly safe. The issue is the bad calls made earlier in the inning that put those runners on base. They should have been the 3rd outs earlier with the Jays coming up to bat. But instead Rauch is throwing extra pitches he shouldn't be, and having extra hits and runs scored on him by a guy that shouldn't even be up at bat. Now the Jays need to score 2 runs just to tie it instead of 2 to win.

      Yeah, apparently it was beef about the strikezone too. Umpire kind of was unprofessional when arguing with John Farrell, he even bumped John.

    Would a player go to jail for head-butting an umpire?

    • @alanhess9306

      Probably wouldn't go to jail but there would be severe sanctions from MLB, including fines and suspensions.

    I think what is tough for players, coaches and fans is that frequently on tag plays and we see it here...the throw beat the runner so, in their minds they see the runner being tag...but, in your mind is not where baseball games are decided.
    It was a close play. The throw beat the runner. But, the runner beat the tag. He was safe.

      He was mad because that play shouldnt have even been able to happen. Rauch struck out the previous batter two times over but they got the walk because of the worst ump calls ive ever seen

      @@logandodge7221 Pitch 5 was clearly a ball, but pitch 6 was absolutely a strike. Definitely a strike-out on the last pitch.
