Robert M Chamberlain made it clear he did not like to be told what to do. He complained to reporters about Hannum's strategy, and Hannum insisted to the same men that Chamberlain was going to have to change
The tension built until one night... Hannum and Chamberlain got into a violent locker-room argument and avoided coming to blows only when other players interevened. Hannum, deciding a showdown was necessary, ordered the other players out, then took off his jacket.
"You've been fighting me as a coach all the way," Hannum said. "Now fight me as a man."

Wilt played in an era before social media, cable tv and advertising. But it’s not even close. Wilt could have played in the NBA until age 50 and would have still dominated with his defense and rebounding and easily would have averaged between 18-20 ppg. The Lakers tried to get him to come out of retirement in the 80’s. He was truly one of a kind. Never to be duplicated.

Sam was my hero back then. One of the great clutch shooters. I convinced my HS principal to invite him to speak at our varsity club banquet at Lincoln Academy in Maine. And I was called to the stage to meet him. Years later I met him for a long conversation in Washington D.C. I mentioned the game in which he drove down the lane and dropped a floater over Wilt to win the game at the buzzer. Sam thought for a minute and said, "no, you're remembering a drive by Bob Cousey." Such a big Jones fan. But he did tell me about Wilt chasing him all over the court after a hard foul.

The entertainment and excellence they provided the fans was beyond extraordinary. I got to meet Satch a number of times and when I did I was gah, gah. What athletes, gentleman and role models.
They just went out there and performed at the highest level, consistently won and were so low key and humble while they were beating everyone. Sam Jones with his wonderful bank shot! KC with his tenacious defense, Satch with his amazing rebounding, Hondo never stopped moving and what can you say about the greatest basketball player ever. Bill Russell 11 championships. Isn't championships the number one goal when playing? Michael was beyond great. He had 6. What wonderful memories! Thanks!

Conversely, if the players back then played today they would struggle also, but they could learn new ball handling techniques and freedoms. @@pointsur67 obviously you don't understand the history of the nba, in wilts era he was so physically abused that he nearly quit in his rookie year.
One year he sustained a injury to his face that smashed and broke his teeth into his gums, that never healed properly, he carried on playing with a mask and the same player who did this tried again to elbow him again an enforcer for the Boston celtics and Wilt Chamberlain laid him out in front of the celtics bench with a five inch punch.
The bench erupted, red called on the referees to throw him off the floor and the referees did nothing because they were being advised to ignore any abuse on Wilt by the nba leadership and they understood it was justified.
One of them even argued because Wilt was so mad, if you have any other seven foot players willing to argue with Wilt chamberlain then send him out and even the great Bill Russell didn't want to be involved in the dispute because he didn't resort to aggressive behaviour unless provoked, while many teams in the league had players for that purpose.
The Pistons if they had continually elbowed Mj in the face he wouldn't have been functioning, but he certainly received better protection than Wilt did in his day!

    Shaq would be shaqasnack against
Wilt. Shaq is fooling himself if he actually believes he could match up with Wilt. Just because you’re 7’1 and an unhealthy 330 plus lbs doesn’t make you better than the most DOMINANT player in NBA history Wilt is the true GOAT, Jordan second.

@@fatalsniper3413 "Best" rankings are IMO virtually impossible to establish because of the natural evolution of the game. Ray, Reggie, and others were fantastic in their day, but Steph, Lillard, and others following their lead today are in a different stratosphere, not least of all because of drastically looser D. If anyone in Sam's era had hoisted up the shots those guys do nightly, he'd have been riding the bench long before stats could be established. But Sam was definitely one of the most clutch shooters ever.

Regarding debate points the "analysts" bring up in those endless GOAT discussions: Whenever they argue that MJ's 6 rings are some kind of trump card, I can't help but wonder if they've somehow forgotten that Bill Russell doesn't have enough fingers to wear all of his.
