  • In this latest instalment of UX portfolio reviews, I'll walk through the latest viewer submission which covers junior designer's from Norway portfolio and case study. While his work is truly well presented and the visual skills are impressive, there are a few bits that could make the UX case study stand out even further.
Sometime back I asked my viewers if there's anyone who would like to get their UX portfolios reviewed and shared with the broader audience. While it must be daunting to put it out there, constructive feedback and specific pointers can make all the difference. Would you like your UX design portfolio to be reviewed with constructive pointers? Drop me a line.
I recently also created a playlist that contains all my videos on UX portfolios here: • UX Portfolios, design ...

I actually thought Rachid is already qualified as a mid level UX designer. Maybe my bar is set too low. For me, junior UX people are more like new graduates straight out of D school or maybe 1-2 years of work experiences. My company turned a bunch of new D school graduate into junior UX designers(level 1) after the internship last summer. They know how to use Sketch/InVision/Figma, actually quite good at those "hard skills". The rest of the stuff need a lot of development. That stuff(real world experience) takes time to acquire. Hence, junior.

Thank you for saying that I am qualified as a mid-level, what was it about my portfolio that stood out as mid-level?
      Thanks.

@@laxxai I think you have all the right components in your portfolio. To me, a mid level UX should talk more about his/her process and methodology which should be about 50% of the portfolio, not just the craft focusing on visual design, micro interaction or animation, etc. Which you're already doing. That's good. Now the challenging part is how to tell that "story". This is pretty much what VAX said in his vid. In film editing, you can "reTell" the story with the same ingredients(footages) by cutting the film differently. Same could be said about a UX portfolio. Depend on the position you're applying for you might want to cherry pick the parts that can really tell the "right story" to the "right hiring manager". That's just like how you would adjust your resume depending on the position you're applying.

What @shaun said. @Rachid, I'd give the same feedback for mid, senior or whatever level portfolio - you introduced yourself as junior so I flew with it. Another thing to consider is your focus on visual side/presentation layer as well as your own work in UX vs what the team did - those would be what in your case would put you lower mid in terms of UX focused role positioning. But you could also be higher for product design positions. Either way its good - just tweak the story and use the design assets meangfully

@@shaun4787 Thank you for the feedback :),

@@vaexperience Thanks! Do you think I should try to apply to more mid-level product design roles with 3 years of experience? Even though I only have one year of experience.
I am focusing more on UI/product design in my portfolio as that is the kind of work I want more of.
I also have an offline portfolio where I cover all the issues that you are touching on, such as: user segmentation, learnings from the user test, outcomes, and overall product vision.
I felt that I didn't want to put more information in the case study as it is pretty long as is. I want this case study to serve as a tool to get into the interview and then go deeper into the UX.

I just finished my UX Design course, I don't have much projects to add in my portfolio, only those from the course. I skipped the first 2 projects- online survey and competitive benchmark, can I still build my portfolio with the projects I did or it would look bad if I don't have more research projects?
