What a stunning album - so well crafted, and such beautiful chord progressions, and the instrumentation is exactly what it needs to be.
After giving it a 0 and the fact it released in 2019, I was quite surprised to see "The Big Day" by chance the rapper at number 1. Not that I'm complaining.
I am very pleased Black Dresses hit such a high spot. I remember following Devi's earlier work when most of her tracks only had several thousand plays so it is nice to see some recognition for both her and Rook's efforts after all this time and effort.
This is probably mostly coincidental but I’m starting to think it’s a little weird that he always gives female artists 9s instead of 10s, even if it’s album of the year or even if he doesn’t think there’s a single bad track on the album.
@@wadestokan5855 True, I think the charli album had a track he didn’t love either. But still it was rated higher than kids see ghosts on the top of the decade list so it’s still a little confusing.
You seriously Impressed me with knowing Ichika Aoba. I’ve been listening to her for a while. She has other worldly music. Really opened my eyes to the taste in music you have, glad there’s another one like me lol
What’s Your Pleasure deserves to be album of the decade. Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and a rare source of pure happiness and joy for me during this fucked up year.
I agree man, number two is a great spot but it’s a phenomenal album period, especially considering this Covid year, and it was my album of the year. The first time I heard it I played it twice in a row (long road trip) and was blown away
I was really starting to panic there that you had forgotten about the 'What's Your Pleasure". I was going to cause a scene here on the boards and it was not going to be pretty. For me, personally, this is the kind of album that only comes along every twenty years or so and is an absolute high point when it comes to pop/post disco. The moment I heard the entire album for the first time, I knew this was going right to the top to sit with Bjork's Vespertine as favorite albums of all time. And it only gets better with repeated listens. In fact I have been listening to this album basically once or twice day for an entire year. That is unheard of for me. The production levels on "What's Your Pleasure" are through the roof and best I've heard in years. Jessie definitely deserved this crown, I couldn't agree with you more melon. Now you need to review the B-Sides as she has just released the Platinum Pleasure version of "What's Your Pleasure" which adds another 8 songs on a second disc and its basically "What's Your Pleasure" part 2 with Impossible being my new addiction.
I been listening to a lot of new releases this year. Proper sit down deep listening. And then taking them into the wild too. Jessie Ware is, in my opinion, a genuine number1 contender. Good on you for putting your neck out and putting this at the top. 2020 needed this.

When you entered the top ten without mentioning " what's your pleasure" I was saying, could it be? Number one? Oh nah... and there you are! It's a great album and it deserves the spot!
Yes. I have a theory that pitchfork’s past two tens set the pace for their following decades. Kanye’s MBDTF set the course for hip hop takeover in the 2010’s and Fiona’s FTBC will begin the rise of non-male artistry in the industry. 2020 would be my exhibit A for this idea... god so many amazing nonmale records and artists this year.
@@jaredortega7574 pitchfork doesn't have the influence you think they once had lol. MBDTF was praised by everyone (even though the chris rock skit and hell of a life aren't that great). Fetch the bolt is fantastic but female artists have been getting more top spots and mentions in general the past 5 years thanks to great albums by them coming out, and male writers/publications 'becoming' less misogynistic and actually giving women in music more exposure.
Thank you, Melon-sama for taking the time to prepare such a thorough list of music to be excited and curious about from the year of collective trauma and being stuck in our homes away from the outdoors.

What a stunning album - so well crafted, and such beautiful chord progressions, and the instrumentation is exactly what it needs to be.
I wasn't expecting this lol Jessie Ware's album is my number one too. I can't even count how many times I heard it, she killed it.
After giving it a 0 and the fact it released in 2019, I was quite surprised to see "The Big Day" by chance the rapper at number 1. Not that I'm complaining.

I agree man, number two is a great spot but it’s a phenomenal album period, especially considering this
Covid year, and it was my album of the year.

Did anyone else think that female artists really killed it this year (even more than usual I mean)
