This is why your channel is so great, you don’t pretend to know it all or take unnecessary risks. You show the good, the bad and the ugly. Better to be safe than sorry!👍
You know your beach plans / anxiety would be where most of us would be. I like how you are not afraid to show us some real travel situations! Hats off to you both. 👍
Thanks so much, yes I think I just let myself get really anxious! It's amazing how travelling with others also builds you confidence versus travelling alone!
Knowing Stradbroke Island, I personally would have parked up for the night after that stressful day, fortunately you made it safely back to the main land. Compassion needs to be shown in situations like this if the local rangers were to attempt to move you on at any stage. We were all taught about driver fatigue in this country for decades via advertising on T.v from our governments, and especially The Police. Don’t ever feel afraid to speak your mind on this reality you found yourselves in. Sorry you missed out on such a fabulous destination.
Oh Deryk and Sue - we really feel for you! That was definitely an intimidating situation -especially in your new rig. In the times ahead you’ll know more about your car’s and tyres’ capabilities and feel more confident. Don’t be too down.. your next beach adventure is just around the corner. For future reference, those mud tyres you got even with the weight of car and van ball weight, drop to 10psi all round and would not of had a problem getting on there, and the van the same, zone usually have cooper tyres so 10psi would be fine too. You will not roll a tyre off the bead as long as you take it easy

So sorry that you missed out on your beach stay, North Stradbroke is my favourite place, hope you get back again real soon, safe travels and sorry also to Bobby who missed out on his beach romp
Well that was an epic…disaster!🤦🏼♀️I feel bad for you but you made the right decision. I guess when you are heavier than most people on the road there aren’t many opportunities to be pulled out of mischief. It was a great episode though. Thanks for showing it to us!😊 I love seeing you back in the sunshine ☀️
Hi It is easier to get to Flinders Beach from the Adder Rock end turning left ,only 2 k quite easy on the low tide much less soft sand. We used to go to Flinders quite regularly towing. Safe travels
Sometimes you just have to back out of a plan , especially when you're gut feeling tells you to do so. You're no worse off money wise because you were spending it on the trip anyway and you still have a right to in good nick! More happy days ahead!
Hi guys, maybe unhitch and do a run on and off to get a feel for just what might be to come. You usually can tell if it doable with the extra weight or not. If you romp it in then its game on but if struggles at any point without the van on then no. Cheers

Hey guys.. Because you were by yourselves, you made the right decision not to hit the beach it does get soft there, it's better to be safe than sorry... Should have given us a call guys we've been going to Straddie for over 30 years and done that entrance 100's of times, last time was with the B2B 79 and 3.5 tonne 21'6 sunseeker. We have camped at Flinders a number of times with our camper trailer. There have always been a large number of large vans there. But we have seen some stuck! Just a South African aside, my brother who owns Devereaux Lodge In East London visited Maggie Connor in Knysna recently where she has retired. She is still well.
Thanks so much Mike. Yes it's never fun getting bogged! That's lovely to hear that Maggie is still doing well, thanks for letting me know. Hope you have abgreat week!
I grew up there and know that entrance really well… I learnt to drive on the beaches there with Toyotas. ohh guys I’m so sorry for you. By what I saw on your video I thought you’d be fine. I would have unhitched and gone for a drive. That start is a scare but you would have been fine. Probably that smaller rig gave you a scare…. There is another entrance which they say not to use but you can, tides dependant. Ahhhh what a shame, such a unique experience it is. Hope you get back there, maybe we will come with you!! Yes 💯 we were going ahead until we saw the vehicle in front sink! I absolutely panicked at that point and we have been bogged so badly before we had to get a tractor to recover us! We will def do it again at some point in future!

If you waited for a lower tide you would’ve been fine and possibly look to go on via Adder Rock entrance. If you ever want to hit Straddie again hit us up we would happily recover you with the Gladiator 👌😂
Don't stress it. I think you made the right decision for that beach entry . As you said another four max tracks. A long handle shovel and with a buddy it would give you more confidence. You have a lot of money involved with your rig and nothing would have been worse to lose out.. chin up. A learning curve. Cheers.

Well done guys...there are situations that you just need to call it and go with your gut. 👍Best to be safe than sorry or it could have been a very costly recovery.
Hi there try a finger length and width of white plastic off a plastic bag and thread it onto the hook then try catching the fish trust me it works if your doing it right.
As sad as it is that you didn’t get to make it on the beach, I gotta say, knowing your limits and capabilities ensures you keep out of real predicaments. Well done on that choice to leave it to another day. Great vid as always guys 👌
@@suelandolt6840 it’s certainly our pleasure 👌 we have ordered a truck and putting the house on the market very shortly so my beautiful partner and I can travel full time, and you two are wonderful to watch 🙌 thank you and hope all three of you have an amazing week ahead 😊
Personally it’s very disappointing that you couldn’t get onto the beach but I believe you made the right decision. The sand did look very soft, sadly lesson learned, add it to your book of memories 😅
Just for next time enter the beach from Adder Rock end of the beach and drive east back to the camp zones You drive off bitumen onto hard compact sand all the way to campsites much easier drive and can also be done on higher tides
Another entertaining vlog, couple of interesting observations, do you have paper maps? how many times have you been misdirected by google maps? One handed driving Derek? 8 ton rig and all🤔🤷on busy freeway with the hand in the 5 o’clock position and the other hand in the air you are a worry
Avoid highways 😂😂 I did that on a family trip once and boy did I cop some flack from the passengers. I just thought the maps was trying to avoid the holiday traffic. Great way to see some back roads if you're not in a hurry!
Sue and Deryk 😢was so sad for you both that’s a lot of money but totally understandable not wanting to get stuck if you have that gut feeling go with it ❤
Ok the important thing to know with toasties - onions and tomatoes have a lot of water in them. You need to pre cook your onion before adding it to the sandwich prior to toasting. Cut tomato thinly and it cooks up well inside the toasty. Enjoy.
Ahhh guys , next time you'll be right. Little hint . That's the worst part of it after that exit entry its all plain sailing. The Adder rock exit / entry is easy as. Just send it you wouldve been right, but hey ,, new car newish van you'll be right next time just have some confidence. Keep up the good work anyway
Good to see you being careful with your rig 😊 maybe next time take the van off, if in doubt with sand mud obstacles ect and then make the call😅 might be still too dodgy but at least you will no ❤
Kudos to you for showing the epic fail 👌👍 you shouldve just unhooked the van and seen how the car wemt by itself and probably dropped some pressure to start it off and that wouldve given you much more confidence whether or not it was going to be ok with the van. And 4 maxtrax would be plenty cos you wont need em for the van. Its all about experience and knowing your limits so good on you for knowing. But you do need to push the limits sometimes to work it out. And knowing tides is also essential. Theres always next time ay. And as someone else said you could go dowm to 10 all round as long as youre not flogging it you won't pop a bead
Guys you should have put something on socials I live at near the badge could have dropped a couple of sets of maxtrax on the ferry even come helped you out.
Ah shit happens some times…. We are a little cautious as well as our Chevy/Sunseeker combo is 9.5tn all up, we too think too old and tired to be bothered with that.. safe travels
@@justvanningit that’s a bugger. Any way I just love following you guys. We are caravaners as well just finished a 11 week trip. Planning the next one. Have a wonderful day
Good lesson to do your home work first , unhook wait for low tide and take a look; talk to the rangers or locals ; bait shop owner and other campers, it’s like a airport runway at low tide. But in the end it’s your money and safety.
How disappointing for us all, but more so for you two. Straddie is in my backyard. I could have come across and given you a tug with my trusty 200 Series, or at the very least doggy sat Bobby. 😂
Learning to drive on the beach is something you do in cheap 4x4. Not a large American Ute, with an expensive van in tow. Which happens to be your home. You made the correct decision to go back to the main land.
This is not our first time on the beach in a 4x4 or towing our van onto the beach. We have been on WA beaches and south Australian beaches. We just felt that we wouldn't make it. Looking back now we should have given it a go

Yes it was a sad goodbye this morning …we are missing you both already and Bobby too of course ❤
Good choice 👍
Thanks Erol 😊
Hi there try a finger length and width of white plastic off a plastic bag and thread it onto the hook then try catching the fish trust me it works if your doing it right.
As sad as it is that you didn’t get to make it on the beach, I gotta say, knowing your limits and capabilities ensures you keep out of real predicaments. Well done on that choice to leave it to another day. Great vid as always guys 👌
Thanks so much Aarron, really appreciate the support 😊 have a great week!
@@suelandolt6840 it’s certainly our pleasure 👌 we have ordered a truck and putting the house on the market very shortly so my beautiful partner and I can travel full time, and you two are wonderful to watch 🙌 thank you and hope all three of you have an amazing week ahead 😊
You did the right thing if in doubt don’t do it and remember as the wise man says preparation prevents poor performance
Thanks so much guys, appreciate it!
Wauraltee awaits you this summer, hope to see you there again.
You may never know 😁
Personally it’s very disappointing that you couldn’t get onto the beach but I believe you made the right decision. The sand did look very soft, sadly lesson learned, add it to your book of memories 😅
💯 thanks Geoff appreciate it!
Line your toaster with oven bake. Easy to clean it after. Just a wipe.
Will defiantly give this a go
Just for next time enter the beach from Adder Rock end of the beach and drive east back to the camp zones
You drive off bitumen onto hard compact sand all the way to campsites much easier drive and can also be done on higher tides
My husband and I really felt for you both
Thank you. Think at the time we did the right thing
Hi Les we don't use paper maps but Deryck has downloaded Hema maps. Thanks for the call out I will keep an eye on Derycks hands while driving.
Avoid highways 😂😂 I did that on a family trip once and boy did I cop some flack from the passengers. I just thought the maps was trying to avoid the holiday traffic. Great way to see some back roads if you're not in a hurry!
😂 Definitely
Sue and Deryk 😢was so sad for you both that’s a lot of money but totally understandable not wanting to get stuck if you have that gut feeling go with it ❤
there is another entrance you can take and is very safe
We did come aware of this but felt we were rushed for time but looking back now, that's what we should have done
Welcome back to Qld guys. R u going to the Zone Muster at Hanger O in a couple of weeks, cheers Rob & Alana ZSP034
Hey guys, thanks so much. Sadly we won't be at the muster. It would have been lovely to attend!
Ok the important thing to know with toasties - onions and tomatoes have a lot of water in them. You need to pre cook your onion before adding it to the sandwich prior to toasting. Cut tomato thinly and it cooks up well inside the toasty. Enjoy.
Thank you so much for the advise. Much appreciated
Thanks so much Alan, appreciate it. We will def try it again from the other entrance!
Would have done the same. Imagine if the van got hit by the high tide. Great honest episode.
💯 that's what I was thinking and got my panic on! 😊
Good to see you being careful with your rig 😊 maybe next time take the van off, if in doubt with sand mud obstacles ect and then make the call😅 might be still too dodgy but at least you will no ❤
💯 agree. Will def take the van off next time and make sure we take an early barge
How good are those bilstien B60 Shocks 😉
They are amazing, Deryck is super happy with them!
Wise decision
Thanks so much!
I wouldn’t have gone onto the beach - the sand was too soft. A recipe for disaster, so a good move
Guys Stay on the avoid highways, much more interesting trip, use the back roads as much as poss.
💯 will probably turn it back on!
Don’t give up on the fishing guys! Smart move if you aren’t confident better to bail, that’s your house and not worth the risk
Thank you very much, really appreciate the support 😊
Always good to see another part of Oz that you wouldn't have if you didn't stuff up
That is 💯 true!
If you enjoy fishing, keep fishing. If you enjoy bringing fish home for dinner, go to the co-op.
Guys you should have put something on socials I live at near the badge could have dropped a couple of sets of maxtrax on the ferry even come helped you out.
Looking back now that's maybe what we should have done. Thank you for the offer 😁
Was wondering, which way did you take to get back to Qld
We headed back on the Newell, so inland
Ah shit happens some times…. We are a little cautious as well as our Chevy/Sunseeker combo is 9.5tn all up, we too think too old and tired to be bothered with that.. safe travels
Better safe than sorry
💯 thanks Wayne!
Did you guys know there’s two entrances onto Flinders did you go to the entrance up near main beach someone should of told you.
We did come aware of this but time was not on our side
Thank you
We look back it now and we do have a little giggle. Thank you for your support and kind offer 😁
Looking back now we should have given it a go
Wow guys…. Straddie is in our backyard…. You just needed to get your tides right and hit it at low tide and you would have maded it…. See your size caravan there all the time …..my wallet is hurting for you just thinking about what you spent for 1/2 a day 😮
Thanks guys! It is such a beautiful island we were super upset we didn't stay! We might put out a holla for some insights from everyone before doing a beach camp again! Thanksnfor your support!
what's wrong just send it in the big powerful RAM u could always reverse out
I am glad you didn’t go onto the beach and risk your car and caravan
I knew where you were when I saw you both jigging around in the car. Its that god awful concrete shit highway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Try it in a truck. Shakes the crap out of everything!
That concrete highway is shocking. We forget about every time and then realise what are we doing 😂
I would have done the same thing
❤
