You can also turn off the main breaker of the "air-handler" unit....or even turn the indoor thermostat to "off".....as an extra precaution to kill the 24V power...so you don't need the tape.

My 24 volt 2 pole contactor does not say which way is up and which way is down? Everything about looks absolutely symmetrical, except the sticker on one side with the details.

How do you know which side is the "line in" on a contactor like that? I don't think those types are ever labeled.

The clamp meter is set to amps not volts A/C when he tested the contractor

Replace a single pole contactor to a double pole.What about the trickle circuit. Does it have a crank case heater?
The capacitor in a box is not good for heat dissipation.
