It's funny that you've mentioned Queen. The feeling I got with Floor is kinda the same that I feel when I listen to Freddie. I think that in a vocal standpoint she is the closest we got in this generation.
My uncle introduced me to Nightwish 3 days ago and I have been gorging for hours on end. So much "new" (to me) material to play. This band is immense, stupefying. Mike's reaction was one of the best I've looked at from music and voice coaches.
Mike, I'm new to the channel. I just wanted to say that I love your respect for musical theatre. I'm not really a fan of musicals and pop-classical, but these guys are just amazing. Thank you for the video!
Oh thank GOD I'm not the only one. I'm watching this and voluntarily signing up to cry because this song just slaps me in the face with gratitude and hope.
Yeah, count me in on that one. It’s like the strangest mix of being totally uplifting and utterly heartbreaking at the same time. Extremely powerful with the images added into the mix.
If you thought Marco was incredible here.. just wait until you experience their cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes.. you'll definitely love it!! Ok back to your reaction now.. loving it👌
I watched an old roadie who toured with Pink Floyd react to it. As you might imagine, you could see his skepticism at first, and then his progressively more difficult inner battle not to say Marko’s version was as good or better than the original. (BTW, Marko’s is better, imo). 😊
Well... they've made classical works that use cannons... yes CANNONS as an instrument and there's a separate staff for them in the score.... so why not fireworks :D
@@MikeGoodrich lighting tech guess: the backing track during that segment is pre-recorded im betting they attached time code to that and walked back from the beat however long the fuze was set to to trigger
That's actually quite easy, fireworks are just timed bombs: you only have to compensate the fuse length. Say your rocket explodes 4 seconds after being ignited, just set it up to be ignited 4 seconds before the beat you want it to explode on. There are whole shows and even competitions of that.
@@MikeGoodrich They have a pyro team, so it's their job to count the fireworks to go off in sync with the song. Of course Tuomas as the main composer (the key.boardist) had to accept, and he likely directed the team. Don't know how the pyro guys do their rehearsals, do they just go with the igniters and music :)
A bloody loss. I never knew her, but after reading up a bit on her, I do feel sad. People THAT passionate about what they love are a rare breed, and a dearly missed one. SHE WAS HERE.
I admire the audience. They keep quiet and listen in the softer parts, they sing along when it's proper and no whistling or disturbing cat calls. They show respect and they love what they hear. Just as I do. And Floor... She is like a priestess leading her flock to salvation. She could make them do whatever she commands.
'It's not about technique, we don't do this for technique, we do technique so we can do this' Jerry Springer eat your heart out! Mike, thank you for your enthousiasm. You seem like a realy nice and genuine person and i loved to watch this video for the 1.000.000th time...Your joy makes me relive the first time i ever heard this masterpiece 🖤❤️
I second both of those choices and if I may add the nightwish version of high hopes from Pink Floyd where Marco kills it m.th-cam.com/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/w-d-xo.html
If you would be interested in exploring Marco so more, the performance of The Islander at the same Tampere show and Nightwish's cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes at the End of an Era show are both great. As for Floor, to see the more theatrical side, I would suggest from the Buenos Aires 2018 show, Dead Boy's Poem & The Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean.
I think Ghost River, Weak Fantasy and While Your Lips Are Still Red are the best songs that showcase his potential... I don't really dig tenors especially in metal but Marko's high notes feel so warm and powerful.
... your Soul ist music❤...Like It so much to hear this with you and your lovable authentic reaction !!!! ...more than once or twice... Again and again.. thank you🤟💋
You haven’t lost any of us. I discovered Nightwish by accident like a lot of us. The only criticism I have is that you didn’t give the drummer or the amazing keyboard member any recognition that they so well deserved. I understand this is a overwhelming concert and their is a lot to take I in. My suggestion to you is to watch this a few more times so you can see and hear all the little nuances that each member contributes to the overall sound and visuals which makes this a MASTERPIECE...good reaction for first time listing to this amazing band...Judy D from NY State
Your reaction to synced fireworks and pyro is pure joy :) Btw Marco his the lead singer of Tarot (where his brother also plays), and in January he released his solo album. He also sings in the supergroup Northern Kings with three other male singer. I would love to see your reaction to one of those!
Wow, when you began the reference to The Moody Blues, for a second I thought you were going to mention another progrock classic that this song reminds me of, one I'm sure you're familiar with, too, Rick Wakeman's "Journey to the Center of the Earth". It was a live recording, with orchestra, choir, core rock band, and a narrator...
11:22 Well he actually is :-) Band is called "Tarot", he also released a solo early this year "Pyre of the black heart" 19:08 Also there is still more to Floor, just saying ;-)
Then there is the band "All Hietala Power Trio". Marko, bass and vocals, Marko's brother Zachary (Sakari officially), guitar, and Miro, 18, Markos son, drums. The future is quaranteed! They played Black Sabbath covers a couple of weeks ago on a live stream from Kuopio Finland, their home town, for 30 minutes, two nights in a row. Both streams available now on YT. Check them out. Same set list on both nights. In the later one Marko forgets the lyrics, (War Pigs was the song i believe, the last song), and reacts to that in Finnish: "Perkele!" In Buenos Aires 2018, Kingslayer was the song I think, his reaction in a similar situation was: "Fuck me!" That's Marko! LOL
Mike - your reaction IS the gift! Our Ann would have been smiling with pride, eyes moist, as she watched you immerse yourself into it, your expert analysis of technique never getting in the way of your enjoyment. 👍😉
Also impressive that this was the last song of a huge concert and their voices still sound that good! And I promise, you could have let this video run out with all the credits yet, and you would not have had a single dislike for it. There is actually more narration in that video that the Nightwish Army hates to miss.... ;-)
Such a joy to observe yours, a real pleasure to absorb what you have to say. You are the best! And yes, this 71 year old remembers the Moody Blues quite well-nice pickup! Your reactions to Ghost love Score, Poet and Pendulum, and Greatest Show on Earth have been a real pleasure to experience. Bravo!
I'm at a different level of humanity and musical awareness because of my discovery of Nightwish. They are truly that impactful and important. Yeah, they are on a whole different level of performance. What a group of beautiful people.
For me, the closing speech together with "we were here" is so powerful. It creates such an appreciation for where we are and combined with being present at such a show must be overwhelming. I was going to their concert coming November but with the current goings-on, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon, unfortunately.
I LOVE your enthusiasm! If I told you that Floor was growling like a demoness the second song on this concert, would you believe me? What I love about Nightwish is that they don't just deliver a concert, they deliver an experience, a whole emotional rollercoaster. After the concert you are so filled with emotions! BTW, Marco has his own solo projects :)
I really think that part that you mean the animalistic cavemen chant is actually done by Troy, he came back on stage right at the exact time and he has done it life in other concerts. Not that Floor couldn't have done it, but Nightwish more and more used Troy to give the other band members more space to recuperate.
@@wudruffwildcard252 I think he means that Floor growls in "Yours is an Empty Hope", the second song of this concert. And it was Floor doing the caveman grunt, not Troy or Marko.
Simply put, this is one of the most epic songs of Nightwish. And no, you haven't lost me, in fact you stopped before the song was done :D But nevermind, most people don't realize that all this is still part of the song. There's a final monolugue at the very end which concludes our existence on earth. This song is just so epic, every time I listen to it, it gives me goosebumps and I cry because it's just so beatiful. That's what music does to you (and me). If you really want to feel sad, listen to "Our Decades in the Sun". I NEVER pass this song without crying. Never.
You mentioned the Moody Blues Days of Future Passed, and you are absolutely right there, but what it also reminds me of is another Moody Blues song... "Procession" off of the Every Good Boy Deserves Favour album. As for the "We were here" section towards the end.... IT DOES GET BETTER! If you are in the crowd when you are hearing that, EVERYONE is screaming those words as loud as they can. It is somewhat spiritual just how intense that section of this song becomes when you are in the audience.
I'm a few drinks in, a friday night in England, unable to feel my legs for drunken numbness and watching this reaction. At 8:00 after the Richard Dawkins speech, your face lights up when the guitar kicks in and it makes me happy how joyful you are in these videos. The gift is you giving us Nightwish, my favorite Nightwish song is always the last one I listened to. Each Nightwish song/set is its own Journey into the realm of Tuomas visions and composition, that’s why the Nightwish army is so passionate, you’ve joined the Nightwish army and one thing you learn as you explore this band is 1-never apologized for the video being to long, the army marches with complete acceptance that no matter how long the quest is we savor every minute of it.2- we know you have to pause you do it well and don’t talk over the music( haven’t heard you do that) gasps, yells, and look of amazement, contentment excitement never get old! Good luck exploring this incredible and amazing band, welcome to the Nightwish Army!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
great to see a reaction from someone who actually has some musical knowledge..loved the video..and the man narating in the song is a scientist prof. Richard Dawkins..they colaborated with him on the album and the title of the song is actually taken from the title of one of his books "The Greatest Show On Earth"
I seriously like your reactions!! And I do like that you like Marko singing!! To see more of him "Islander" @ Tampere and "While your lips are still red" are great picks :)
10:43 Floor Marco and Troy Donockley (the guy with the irish elbow pipes) are always singing that part together why does everyone miss that there is a third voice i heard it the first time through it might be subtle but it is clearly there and harmonizes perfectly with them which is amazing in itself please listen to it again for your analysis video that i bet you will do about this song
The first thing you learn as a Nightwish fan is, strap in for a long one, coz all their stuff is longer than the "norm" but they always make it worth it, and we as an army always enjoy when those long videos are reviewed so i really do wish that everyone would stop apologizing for long videos, we would watch it even if it was an hour, hell we watch these reactions for 5 hours straight anyways, doesnt matter if its one video or 10. Great reaction as always, very nice to see someone with such a "long line of reference material" ;) giving their input, keep up the good work and you still have so much nightwish to go if you wish.
Great reaction again. Thank's! A bit worried though that you'll have a Nightwish-stroke 🤯 I long for your reaction to "Shoemaker" and.. well the entire new album. I absolutely love you, Mike. Such a passionate and brilliant analysis ... you earned a new subscriber. Don't worry about us ... we are screaming "Let it go!" because you missed the outro from Richard Dawkins ... we will stay with you, we will stay with you. I've always said ... a story or song should be as long as it takes to tell the story. It's the ignorance of the general public that wants a three minute song and a 90 minute movie, their attention span doesn't allow them to learn beyond that. The Nightwish audience is well beyond limitations because Nightwish is as well. I think I would have an incredible time talking with you over a cup of tea or a beer. You, my friend, are a good man.

Just find this reaction, you are now my favorit reactor, diving now into your deep deep talented rabbithole, thanks💕🇸🇪🤘😎🤟
Not only Marko and Floor, the whole band is fantastic! Their lives are exceptional
Mike, I'm new to the channel. I just wanted to say that I love your respect for musical theatre. I'm not really a fan of musicals and pop-classical, but these guys are just amazing. Thank you for the video!
Niinpä,, same,,
No,, yuo are not,,
We are just part, off,,
We're metal fans, we're used to very long songs. Enjoy your take on things. Great reaction.
Mainstream crap takes 3 minutes..... Masterpieces take time!
I can highly reccomend Blind Guardian - And then there was silence if you like the long ones ^^
Thanks so much! I used to love CREAM which did very ling jams! I love it too!
@Dregoth I love the doubleversion.. Bard Song plus Valhalla.. gets me everytime
I seriously can't listen to the "We were here" without sobbing
Yes, and every time they finish, I hear in my head: 'That's here. That's home. That's us.' (quote from Carl Sagan) and start to cry like a waterfall.
Oh thank GOD I'm not the only one. I'm watching this and voluntarily signing up to cry because this song just slaps me in the face with gratitude and hope.
Me too!!! I am so glad I'm not the only one.
Ok back to your reaction now.. loving it👌
I could not agree more!!!
I'll check it out and thank you for watching and commenting!!
@@MikeGoodrich You will not regret it! Even Dave Gilmour likes it!!
I watched an old roadie who toured with Pink Floyd react to it. As you might imagine, you could see his skepticism at first, and then his progressively more difficult inner battle not to say Marko’s version was as good or better than the original. (BTW, Marko’s is better, imo). 😊
You: How do you orchestrate fireworks?
Nightwish: Yes
Well... they've made classical works that use cannons... yes CANNONS as an instrument and there's a separate staff for them in the score.... so why not fireworks :D
Haha! Yes, they pulled it off!
RIP Ann .. Know your knowledge will continue to be shared by the Army and we will never forget !!
A bloody loss. I never knew her, but after reading up a bit on her, I do feel sad.
People THAT passionate about what they love are a rare breed, and a dearly missed one.
SHE WAS HERE.
How did she pass?
I admire the audience. They keep quiet and listen in the softer parts, they sing along when it's proper and no whistling or disturbing cat calls. They show respect and they love what they hear. Just as I do. And Floor... She is like a priestess leading her flock to salvation. She could make them do whatever she commands.
'It's not about technique, we don't do this for technique, we do technique so we can do this'
Jerry Springer eat your heart out!
Mike, thank you for your enthousiasm. You seem like a realy nice and genuine person and i loved to watch this video for the 1.000.000th time...Your joy makes me relive the first time i ever heard this masterpiece 🖤❤️
"Just as you thought you've heard all she has.....you find out there's more."
Yep! That's the Floor (& Nightwish) experience, perfectly summed-up. :)
To hear Marko, listen to The Islander from the same show or While your lips are still red live Wembley 2015
I will!! Thank you!!
I second both of those choices and if I may add the nightwish version of high hopes from Pink Floyd where Marco kills it m.th-cam.com/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/w-d-xo.html
Heck yes! both are amazing, and really lets marco shine.
@@pdimi3829 Marko yess, but the whole band is shining in that one. That eerie, echoic sound Tuomas creates!
@@MikeGoodrich Marco also founded another band called Tarot, where he was the lead vocalist
LOVE your enthusiasm!
-Fellow Music Lover
If you would be interested in exploring Marco so more, the performance of The Islander at the same Tampere show and Nightwish's cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes at the End of an Era show are both great. As for Floor, to see the more theatrical side, I would suggest from the Buenos Aires 2018 show, Dead Boy's Poem & The Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean.
What comes to Marko, fantastic suggestions. I would propably add "Weak Fantasy", Tampere 2015, to the list, and several more but enough for now.
And "while your lips are still red" live at wembley
Tarot - Tides (live) would also deserve a spot here.
Came to the comments to recommend "The Islander" as well haha
I think Ghost River, Weak Fantasy and While Your Lips Are Still Red are the best songs that showcase his potential... I don't really dig tenors especially in metal but Marko's high notes feel so warm and powerful.
... your Soul ist music❤...Like It so much to hear this with you and your lovable authentic reaction !!!! ...more than once or twice... Again and again.. thank you🤟💋
You could check out their cover of High Hopes, or Phantom of the Opera (with Tarja) to get more Marko's singing.
You haven’t lost any of us. I discovered Nightwish by accident like a lot of us. The only criticism I have is that you didn’t give the drummer or the amazing keyboard member any recognition that they so well deserved. I understand this is a overwhelming concert and their is a lot to take I in. My suggestion to you is to watch this a few more times so you can see and hear all the little nuances that each member contributes to the overall sound and visuals which makes this a MASTERPIECE...good reaction for first time listing to this amazing band...Judy D from NY State
It wasn't over the end was important.
Your reaction to synced fireworks and pyro is pure joy :)
Btw Marco his the lead singer of Tarot (where his brother also plays), and in January he released his solo album. He also sings in the supergroup Northern Kings with three other male singer. I would love to see your reaction to one of those!
When you say you wish you could give us a gift - The gift is seeing you react to this music.
Makes me so happy to hear that you give recognition to Marko's vocal skills! I'm not saying he doesn't get recognition, he does, but deserves more!
@TwoCats Yelling same for me :)
Ops, I replied before reading your comment 😬
What bands has Marko played in? Well, what bands has Marko NOT played in?
LOL
Marko breathes music... he did a lot of guest appearences for other bands and did vocals for other project as well... he's a legend.
There is actually more narration in that video that the Nightwish Army hates to miss.... ;-)
Thank you for that! It was very hard to turn off!
Bravo!
"...and just belting like there's no tomorrow." 😂 So true.
Great!
I'm at a different level of humanity and musical awareness because of my discovery of Nightwish. They are truly that impactful and important. Yeah, they are on a whole different level of performance. What a group of beautiful people.
"and both of 'em are spinning like tops with their vibrato" such a cool expression right there🙌 and then that ad 🤣 epic reaction Mike *Kiitos!*
Thank you so much!! That ad really threw me...haha!
I had watch almost all reaction videos to all Nightwish songs, but this one makes almost each voice teacher have tears in the eyes.
We miss you Ann. Rest in Paradise.
You enjoyed the entire experience. Thats really cool.
For me, the closing speech together with "we were here" is so powerful. It creates such an appreciation for where we are and combined with being present at such a show must be overwhelming. I was going to their concert coming November but with the current goings-on, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon, unfortunately.
Your gift is your reactions!
🇫🇮😁🤘🤘❤️🎶🎸👍👍
Thank you for sharing This experiece with all of us 🤘🇫🇮
I like you dude, you seem like a genuine dude! :) Can recommend "The Islander", it's a great one!
I love watching peoples reactions to this
You should watch Nightwish do "Ever Dream" at Wacken - amazing crescendo
I'm 54 years old, and you are talking about music that I know well. Thanks
Never.
I'm sure, you will see Nightwish somewhere, someday....your face tells how much you want to see/meet them! You keep on waiting...👍
Yep! That's how it would get better!! (-:
I'm a few drinks in, a friday night in England, unable to feel my legs for drunken numbness and watching this reaction. At 8:00 after the Richard Dawkins speech, your face lights up when the guitar kicks in and it makes me happy how joyful you are in these videos. Love from the UK, and may we all appreciate our brief time as winners in the lottery of life!
Marco IS the leader of his own bands. Two actually : Tarot, and is solo project Marko Hietala. check out his songs Stones or The Voice Of My Father
Thanks!!

The voice of my father is my favourite of the solo album. So good!
Also Northern Kings
Awesomeness...
Now you should catch them on tour where I've seen them play clubs!! The energy and feelings are electrifying💜 I discovered them back in 2016 with the some nemo and I had the opportunity to see them twice so far and I def would again. Awesome review!
Good bye and Rest in Peace Ann. I will miss reading your comments. Sir Richard Dawson speaking and Marco has a band out6of Nightwish called Tarot he did with his older brother. He also has a solo album out last year in English. The growling was mostly Floor and some Marco. Marco had throat surgery so he can't do much of the growling. There was more speaking at the very end.
Same here, Christina. I still out of habit look for her in the comments. 😥
*Dawkins
What?? Ann died? I can't believe. And I was wondering why I don't see her in the comments recently.
@@amax1229 thank you
I just love your comments
Yes, Marko is a lead singer in his own right. The whole band is amazingly talented! Great reaction/ analysis.
Your parting gift is the joy you take in this wonderful band. I think that's a fair trade. Keep them coming!
Dear Mike, Nightwish reactions are never too long! Plus your technical review is awesome, even for me as a non-singer. So take your time reviewing, it separates you from all the other "vocal coaches". We'll, you had the big three of NW, so or you will do the shorter NW songs, or you will take up Floors appearances on the Dutch TV show the Beste zangers, where she shows her versatility in all genres of singing. Waiting for Friday and Wednesday, regards!
This band... this song... speaks for all mankind! For all of us! We were here :) And this is our musically legacy...
20:03. You caught the little Metallica riff ... 🤣. 21:00 I’m 60 years old, 6’1 and 270, and I cry Every time I get to this point.
It was Not too long. There is Never too much of this song.. The Nightwish Army would have eaten your soul had you stopped that any earlier than you did.... 😁😁
💙💙💙 All Hail Floor 💙💙💙
RIP Ann Waychoff. Commanding General-Nightwish Army 💙
Your age, height, and weight have nothing to do with your emotions and whether you display them or not.
@@chasingbirds3073 But, as it is still popular to say (tongue-in-cheek at least), grown boys (supposedly) don't cry. :)) So this was a correct play on societal cliches. Don't take things too seriously.

SHE WAS HERE.
The use of her entire register is completely effortless for her. No matter how many times I listen to this, i still get goose bumps.
Instant upvote for the Moody Blues reference, one of my all-time favorite bands.
Great reaction. Love youre comments. Song of myself next time ptease.
The narrator is Richard Dawkins himself, but others have already said that:) As a biologist I was thrilled to hear him in the Nightwish song!
great to see a reaction from someone who actually has some musical knowledge..loved the video..and the man narating in the song is a scientist prof. Richard Dawkins..they colaborated with him on the album and the title of the song is actually taken from the title of one of his books "The Greatest Show On Earth"
My man is so genuine with his reaction to this. He’s actually stunned, which is what nightwish does so well 😅
I seriously like your reactions!! And I do like that you like Marko singing!! To see more of him "Islander" @ Tampere and "While your lips are still red" are great picks :)
This is not only a song , its drama , and live! And its Fantastic! Who can do better music? Nobody!
10:43 Floor Marco and Troy Donockley (the guy with the irish elbow pipes) are always singing that part together
why does everyone miss that there is a third voice i heard it the first time through
it might be subtle but it is clearly there and harmonizes perfectly with them which is amazing in itself
please listen to it again for your analysis video that i bet you will do about this song
You definitely need to see The Islander live from Tampere and their cover of Pink Floyds High hopes for more of Marko Hietala.
R.I.P Ann.
I will say it a billion times. I am listening to the Greatest Band On Earth.
there is no such thing as "too long" when it comes to Nightwish. 😊 thank you for your reaction. really enjoyed it, as always.
No no no no...Thank YOU Mike for being authentic and so gentle. Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷🤘
Great reaction again. Thank's! A bit worried though that you'll have a Nightwish-stroke 🤯
I long for your reaction to "Shoemaker" and.. well the entire new album. But I'll be murder-killed by the Nightwish army (😇) if I don't ask you to do a few of the older stuff first. Whatever you decide I'll watch it.
I actually want to give YOU a gift, fellow MIKE. YOU are worthy of praise for wanting to stick through the entire performance. I need to meet you before I die. I connected with you emotionally with your reactions to multiple wunderkinds.
I had a good talk with Ann on TH-cam once. 💕 And Floor Jansen is the Queen of The Mix, She is smiling while singing. And Marko Hieltala ? Try his song "Stones"
I‘m in love with Nightwish for a long time. But still have to watch many of their songs and also these reactions. It‘s always a high pleasure to watch them…and your reaction, too. For many times again and again ❤️
With the different styles Floor can sing, just ask her "which styles can you sing?", Floor's answer "Yes".
Most singers sing whatever they can...Floor sings whatever she wants :)
Well. I haven't heard her yodel yet :-)
She'll probably do that pretty well to.
While Floor sounds better in certain styles, she can most likely technically sing any style. I was going to say any style, but as previous commenter said, I have not heard her yodel yet either
I'd listen to her singing folk :)
@@soon_to_emerge I'd listen to Floor singing the phone book. Any phone book!
Instant like then watch video!
Lol me to

I wish you will have the chance to see them live. It's a deep experiance you will never forget. I went to many many concerts but nightwish live is another dimension.
Marco goes even more crazy with his vocals in The Phantom of the Opera (Nightwish) with Tarja in the End of an Era concert!
11:59 - I KNEW you were going to mention The Moody Blues!!!! I had the same thought exactly the first time I heard this! (yes, I am old....)
Me too! They did the whole side of one record on the evolution story. The Moodies used to be my favorite band; now it is Nightwish!!! (I am 75)
