- I took Berlin FEX Flughafen express from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to BER Brandenburg Airport. This service is operated by DB Regio and is the fastest train connection from Berlin Hbf to the Brandenburg Airport

Thank you very much for this comprehensive video. You not only showed the inside of the train, but the Hpt station, and how the surroundings looked at each stop - so that really helps alleviate the anxiety about not being at the right place on time.

Thanks for the video Pete. A great airport rail conection at a reasonable price. I some cities like Sydney they slap a big surcharge on using the airport station. But at least Sydney has a rail connection - here in Meblourne, a city of about 5 million, an airport rail link is only now in the planning stages...and fast rail is only a dream.
Thanks so much Linda! In Berlin, the price for the airport train is really favorable, a regular ticket for public transport is enough. In Sydney, it will probably be similar to Hong Kong, where I paid HKD 100 for an airport express train. Btw. in Prague (my home city) we still only have a bus connection to the airport and the train connection is in preparation (for many years) :-D Greetings from winter Europe :-)
@@PeteBrandy Bingo! Prague and Melbourne have the same problem. In Melbourne the private company running the airport so desperate that they have offerred pay for it!

Bezva video!! TOP!! A vypadá že DB si dovolilo luxus vyčlenit speciální soupravy na ten spoj! Tá stanice vypadá taky velká na tom letišti! Už se zase těším na nějaký noční vlak! ;)
Díky moc! Také mě to překvapilo, určitě je pro spoustu cestujících větší jistota když je to přímo vlak určený na tuto linku a odpadne tím strach, že sednou do jiného vlaku :-D Pokud to stihnu, tak příští neděli bude EuroNight :-)

Amazing video with much appreciated detail and explanations of the platform locations and trains used. My last trip to Berlin I rented a car, which was a mistake. Next time I will use the trains to get to the Hbf station and further.
Thanks :-) The train is definitely a good option. But until the end of August, you need to be prepared for the fact that the regional / local trains will be more crowded because of the 9-Euro-Ticket special fare.
Riding with you is alway a pleasure especially if the train is smooth and quiet like this one.

@@PeteBrandy Yes me too, Pete, we took this kind of train to go from the airport to Paris, the RER B, but it is old and not double decker and very late, we missed our train. We weren't going to the airport either, but the hotel was staying there.

Not sure if you will see my comments. Thanks, very helpful to see what this train and the trip is like from city to airport. The stairs are more than a couple, so more work for me to lug a carryon suitcase, duffle bag and another bag up or down. Not sure about taking the double decker train. You said there was one car not a double decker, correct? I’ll be in Berlin in October. Thinking about transport to the airport.
Sorry for the late reply.. Baggage shouldn't be a problem, at Berlin Hbf. there are also elevators at the end of the platforms, and for the double-decker train, one of the carriages should have level boarding.
Nice video, quick ride. Much more comfortable than the articulated buses that went to the old TXL airport. Looking forward to the next trip report.

WoW! The trains, platforms and underground area are sparkling clean as your forever white sneakers. Most Amtrak platforms and canopies are filthy and in deplorable condition.
Haha, I remember my Amtrak train from Newark to Penn station, but it wasn't so bad. Berlin Hbf is nice and clean station :-)

How early should we book the train? Or is it available on immediate basis- tickets at Berlin station?
The ticket for this train can be bought from the ticket machines directly at the station or at the ticket office.

Certainly looks a lot better way to travel to the city centre than the old buses from Tegel Airport (TXL). On the basis that the paper ticket is a "flat" 3Euro80 at the moment, how do you get a First Class ticket and how much is it?

Ahoj Pete, souprava moc pekna, skoda ze na prazske letiste se lze dostat jaen autem nebo busem, jsem zvedavy jestli se dockame vlakoveho spojeni z centra na letiste..Nebo alespon tram linky.👍
Ahoj :-) Na letištní expres celkem dobrý vlak. V Praze to asi bude ještě na dlouho, místo autobusu bude trolejbus.. a jestli bude dřív vysokorychlostní trať směr Rakousko a Německo, tak o další důvod létat z okolních letišť víc a pa už to ani nemusí stavět. Už jen málo letišť v hlavních městech EU nemá kolejové napojení, snad už jen pobaltské státy a my.. (Bratislavu nepočítám, ta má vlak do Vídně)

Co se týče těch ostatních vlaků, tak krom linky IC z Drážďan jezdí jak linka RE7 tak RB14 po trati východ západ, takže je možné se dostat z letiště rovnou do centra (Friedrichstr., Alex etc…) a na hlavák přijede vlak do nadzemní části nádraží 😁 vlastně i bez přestupu se člověk dostane do centra přímo.
Jo, to je pravda, akorát to IC z Drážďan bývá často plné a z Berlin Hbf často dražší než je cena ABC tiketu.. Ty RE/RB jsou vhodné, pokud člověk potřebuje jinam než na Hbf. Ale dle mého názoru Flughafen Express je mnohem jednodušší na orientaci pro lidi, co neznají Berlin tak dobře a nebo pro lidi, co pak pokračují třeba ICE někam dál.. jinak jsem někde zaslechl, že ta trasa se má ještě měnit a v budoucnu by měl ten expres ještě o 10 min zrychlit.
How do you compare the Heathrow Express, Vienna Airport Train and Berlin Airport Express?
The FEX is the cheapest one.
Berlin Flugafen expres is very similar to Regional express trains of DB Regio, not bad. To Vienna Airport I prefer to take Railjets from Hauptbahnhof, they are cheaper with similar journey time (and better for my other train connections). As for the Heathrow express, I have no experience with, I always took a Tube to the city center.

How long does the train take from BER to Ostkreuz?
I still think the S9 and S45 are better if you are travelling from BER into the south or east of Berlin or Mitte... I'm surprised this FEX doesn't run along the Stadtbahn and stop at the main stations along the way ... Hauptbahnof and Gesundbrunnen arent exactly main tourist centres.. but I guess ok for those travelling to far West Berlin

Thanks :-) I took this train in September 2021. The conductor checked the tickets when we were between zone B and C. The train left the Hauptbahnhof quite empty and passengers boarded at Gesundbrunnen and Ostkreuz, the same it was on the way back. I think that in the future the FEX service should have different route, because by 2025 the travel time should be reduced by 10 minutes. I think the purpose of FEX was a fast connection between Hbf / Gesundbrunnen due to transfers to long distance trains (I transferred at Hbf from the EuroCity train from Prague) and on my way back I transferred to ICE to Leipzig at Hbf, so FEX was a good option for me. From Ostkreuz to Terminal 1 - 2, the journey time is between 16 - 19 min.
@@PeteBrandy yes the connection from and to those stations Hbhf in particular would make sense ..and also for locals who live in the far reaches of West Berlin. I'm not sure it's centred on Tourists per se. Nonetheless the journey time to Ost X is quite impressive
Beside the FEX there are also regional trains running via the Airport. So that means it is possible to get with a faster connection to Friedrichstr. or Alexanderplatz etc. With the lines RE7 and RB14. Taking the S9 takes more time than the FEX or Regional trains.
The only objection is that it doesn't have wi-fi, the rest is fine for a short trip. Thanks for the ride to de airport.
Je to paráda vlakem na letiště,velká pohoda.Bohužel,v Praze se toho asi nedožiji a do konce života se budu trmácet z hlaváku na letiště přecpaným busem přes celou Prahu.Dík za video.
U nas asi bude dřív vysokorychlostní železnice, než vlak na letiště :-D Ale pamatuju, že ještě v roce 2019 jsem létal na Berlin Tegel a odtud jezdil také bus, ale je fakt že mi jel až před Hbf a zas tak dlouhá cesta to nebyla :-) Jinak když pominu Bratislavu a Pobaltské státy, tak už je Praha jedna z posledních v EU bez kolejového napojení na letiště.
Smutné, že všude po Evropě se dá jet vlakem na letiště, ale v Praze ještě ne. Ruzyně je snad největší letiště v Evropě, co nemá vlakové spojení + možná ještě Budapešť a Dublin.
Bohužel je to tak, metro nakonec odbočili na Nemocnici Motol, vlak v nedohlednu a místo toho bude trolejbus, což z pohledu cestujícího nebude žádné zlepšení.

In Berlin Hbf gibt es nur 2 Etage, von wo aus die Züge abfahren. Der Flughafen-Express (FEX) fährt von den unteren Gleisen (Tief) ab

Škoda, že podobné vlakové spojení není v Praze mezi hlavním nádražím a letištěm. Jen se o tom už léta mluví.
Bohužel, a asi i ještě dlouho mluvit bude.. možná do té doby bude už rychlovlak do Vídně, a pak budeme létat se Swechatu, kde je stejnak lepší nabídka destinací i lepší ceny.
Regional trains are often more clean than long trip trains in germany.
Yes, I saw.. I also travelled on ICE4 in the same day and probably they had no time to make a cleaning.

There's a freight version of the DB BR147 the DB BR187 and Pete if you want to differentiate a 780.3 785 doppelstockwagen from a 781 786 doppelstockwagen its the platform steps. Reason for this is that 780.3 785 are used with Low level platforms while 781 786 doppelstockwagen are used with High Level Platforms 76cm height. Steps are activated when boarding from low level platforms on the 781 & 786 dostos which this train have. Cab car is a 767.2 or 766.2 knew these by playing Train Sim world 2. For the United States examples like Anchorage, AK Providence, RI & Philadelphia PA have the main line trains run to the airport Terminal like Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport Rhein-Main Frankfurt Am Main. Others like EWR JFK & SFO use a people mover system to connect the railway station with the Terminals seen in Flughafen Rhein-Ruhr Dusseldorf. Regarding Gorlitz they also made coaches for CD Czech Railway during the communist era of Czech Republic and former East Germany that includes first Generation Dostos

Je to len môj názor,
ale tie staršie typy nemeckých poschodových vozňov sa mi páčia viac, a tie zo Škodovky sú priam výborné. Asi je to interiérom a bariérovosťou, neviem.🤔
Ale pekný výlet. Už aj ja by som chcel letieť, ten strach z lietania ma vždy vzrušoval. (nechápať zle...😁)
Mě se Německé Dosto také líbí, přijdou mi i hezky prostorné, jen mi celkem vadí když jezdí na IC2 vlacích (Twindexxy).

Právě jsem dojel dom, byl jsem v Nových Zámcích. Natočil jsem ty Pušpuly dvouvozé, jeden vložený a jeden řídící vůz. Frekvence cestujícich tady asi není příliš veliká. Odobrané vozy jsou pak řazeny v kombinaci Bdteer + 3x poschoďák + Bdteer na RExech z Bratislavy do Prievidze. 😁

Jo, tomu je tak. Metropolitany jsou u nás téměř "vyprodány" ve dvou relacích, Nové Zámky - Bratislava a Bratislava - Kúty. Kdyby to zastavovalo v Malackách, nebo v Devínské Nové Vsi (automobilka), i v Galantě, by praskaly ve švích.
Víš, lidé po šichtě si raději připláci, než "šérovat" tlačenici v eSkách... nebo jet nespolahlivýma zvolenskýma R8xx. U nás jsou železnice katastrofa. Nejsou strojvedoucí, a tí, kteří jsou, půlka v izolaci (nechci použít trigr).
Ráno mám 3 vlaky mezi 7.02 - 7.26 (a taky 3 busy, jenže stačí nehoda na D2... !!!), ale většinou jeden je odřeknout, jeden má zpoždění 1/2 hodiny a třetí jede +5 minut na čas... jen nevíš, který😁. Tak, dnes jsem si zahrál tou ruletu šesti spojů.
