Haircut Tutorial: Slicked Back Pompadour

- In this video, MC Barber will be demonstrating how to create a slicked back pompadour using scissors over knuckles.
-1:00 After parting the hair, MC begins his haircut by taking 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch sections. He removes the length using scissors over knuckles.
-2:42 Using an 8 plastic guard on Wahl clippers, he tapers the back and sides of the head.
-3:28 MC moves down to a 6 plastic guard on Wahl clippers. Fading down avoids removing hair that isn't intended to be removed.
-3:47 Still fading down, he moves to a 2 plastic guard.
-4:29 He then switches to a 1 1/2 plastic guard on Wahl clippers.
-4:47 Using Andis trimmers, he shapes up the hairline.
-6:13 MC tapers the sides burns starting with a 1 1/2 plastic guard on Wahl clippers.
-6:24 Moving down to a 1 plastic guard on Wahl clippers, he further tapers the sideburns.
-6:39 MC uses a sculpting technique done with a razor. This creates texture while removing bulk.
-7:54 Moving to the top of the head, he uses a razor to remove length. This avoids leaving a blunt line.
-9:36 He uses scissors to cross check his razor cut.
-9:54 Using scissors over knuckles, he blends the sides and back into the hairstyle.
-11:07 Returning to the razor, he uses a sculpting technique to connect the sides, back, and top. This creates more texture and removes bulk.
-11:49 Watch a quick blow dry.

As a somewhat rival barber in west Hartford, ( Let's face it there is plenty of clients, to go around) I wanted to check this guy out because I've heard about him. I'am a second generation master barber, son of Italian immigrants. My uncle was a champion in the 1970's. He and my father specialized in razor cuts. Mc is absolutely right. We should all be barber stylists. At our shop clients gladly pay $30 all day. Never stop learning. Respect.

I like the way you cut hair. I live in Corpus Christi tx and all the older barbers are gone. Is there anyone in my home town that cuts hair like you and pays attention to detail. Mainly around the ears, sides and neck line

I swear you took the words right out of my mouth. I watch hair cutting videos on TH-cam all the time and very often I'm left more confused than informed. Many times there's weird complicated suctioning that has no correlation to the finished result. I don't understand all the angles and terminology. It's like I'm in math class. Somehow I know they're making things far more difficult than need be.

MC, I've noticed that by using your razor to blend your clipper work into your scissor work, you skip out clipper over comb/scissor over comb. I see you use scissor over comb to fine tune in a few other vids but never clipper over comb.

Great haircut but I got a quick question for ya. You say that using the rasor to cut the top of the hair leaves a good texture on the hair. Here I noticed that you followed up with shears after the rasor. So my question is: why do you use rasor and than shears when in the end youre stll getting the same result as if you used shears all the way?
Isid Vojka So when you use the scissors afterwards you actually do not cut into your Razor cut you only cut the ends
Okay understood.
I know it was a rookie question but the reason I had this question is because I thought that the point of the rasor sculpting technique was to get the uneven ends, pretty much like the thinning scissors, so they blend together and you get the texture.

I work in a barber shop and we do straight razor shaves my suggestion to you is to soak your razor handles in accel preempt HLD5. It is a disinfectant and sterilant.
