I have done a lot of 3D imagery since its 2010-ish peak when a few stereo P&S cameras came out, and I owned three Fuji Real 3D W3 cameras after the first two had lens issues. I still have one which works quite well, and while I am tempted by the new Acer camera its feature set does not warrant the price point they are asking. The lackluster design is matched by its limited functionality, unless of course you invest further into more of their hardware. 3D is certainly on its way back after its false start fifteen years ago, and I for one will wait to see who else offers a stereo camera that improves on the impressive Fuji W3. I also expect smartphones to start offering that capability, since they need to just put a lens at the other end of the phone and add a lenticular screen - once that happens, no one will want a dedicated P&S stereo camera.
You're distracted by a focus on still photography. When it comes to video quality, this is the first of its kind with up to 4K HDR high frame rate 3D (which no consumer 3D camcorder has done before) and at just over $500 (which decade-old JVC & Sony 3D camcorders can be bought at) yes, it's a good price. Also, I guarantee the compression & low light performance is better than the W3.
When's the SpatialLabs Eyes coming out?
This is already available in the official Acer store in Taiwan.
