This is a great review! Thank you! Although I would have loved for you to spend a teensy bit more time on Perrito. He was one of my favourite characters and to me exemplifies the message about being in the moment and appreciating the pure beauty in what is in front of you.
Thank you! I'll definitely talk more about him in the future. Like I said in the video, I couldn't get to everything I wanted to talk about because of personal life being a bit chaotic right now but I'll get back to it for sure.
@@suzanneshephard2743 Thank you, it'd be a big goof on my part not to properly include the right clips but with so little footage available on TH-cam it's pretty easy to not match up audio with video. So thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for making a video about this! It’s really nice hearing what I feel well articulated manner and not it was so cool! For a mini review this is amazing as it was entertaining and fun to watch no matter what part of the video I was at. I also think you covered all the bases. If you ever wanted to do another video on a deep dive, a movie vs sequel comparison or any of the characters I would love to watch that! I must admit I was very apprehensive to watch this at first as I loved the first one so much but I needn’t had worried as I ended up loving this one just as much if not more. I agree with you with them not quite pulling off the art thing they did in spiderverse. Just looks like a dip in connection and quality when it happens. My favourite thing about this movie was probably goldylocks and the 3 bears and it brought me to tears at the end. I was bawling. I look forward to your future videos!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this awesome piece of filmmaking. I would like to make comments on two things. First, Big Jack Horner. I thought he was a great villain, purely evil and irredeemable. I'll admit I didn't quite like his design (especially at first)… that baby head with pink hair atop a massive Kingpin's body. Still, he was able to win me over because he was (IMO) so good a character at being so awful a person. Oh, and some people have also commented that he could be a satire of Trump (makes a lot of sense, I didn't think of that when first watching but yeah I sorta could definitely feel it) -- and also of Mickey Mouse & Co., this gigantic corp that capitalizes on what dreams are made of and turns them into weapons and trinkets to be used once and then discard them. Second, the soundtrack -- or actually soundtracks. I thought the themes of each character blended brilliantly with each other and with the ambient music and even the sound effects. I downloaded all of the tracks in MP3 format and kept about a third of them all in my personal music library. The first "Puss in Boots" (2011), however… I dunno. Most of the music there didn't really do much for me. (In fact, I only salvaged four of them: "Jack and Jill", "The Magic Beanstalk", "The Puss Suite", and "The Giant's Castle".) Here's a couple honest questions: What did you like about the soundtrack of the first film that made / still makes it stand out for you? Also, could you share what were your favorite tracks? Thank you and congrats for the excellent video review, I look forward to watching the full review later on!
Hey, thank you for this comment! I'll try to explain my stances as best as I can. I think I've changed my opinion on Jack Horner. The more I saw the movie, the more entertaining I found him and it's definitely helped by a lot of the memes people have made of him. I quite like him now, but I still feel like the movie can feel a bit bloated at times with him in it. As for what he's meant to represent, I don't like filtering these types of things through any specific public figures. But I do definitely see how he's a satirical interpretation of today's medias desperation to make villains redeemable or tragic despite how awful they are. From that angle, I find him to be funniest. Again helped by the memes. In terms of soundtrack, there are moments in The Last Wish that have stellar music. "Fearless Hero" is one of them. Not just the musical number, but also the score for the entire opening. It's really well done. My favorite part of it is towards the latter half when he's fighting the giant, the music swells up becoming more triumphant while a singer chants all sorts of things that describe Puss like "warrior, legend, the strongest, honorable" and whatnot. There are also other moments like Jack Horner's introduction, the Wolf's theme, etcetera. But still the majority of the soundtrack wasn't as memorable to me. Henry Jackman's score stood out more even on a first time viewing, and I think it's just a matter of him being a more experienced composer. The composer for the last wish is good, but often times settles for compositions that are unremarkable. Not bad, just not amazing. Henry Jackman made the Puss Suite a song so accurate to Spanish music that it almost sounds like something I would hear or have heard on my grandma's CD's or the radio (I'm Hispanic, so that type of music is pretty much all I hear). It genuinely makes me smile how well he captured the style throughout the score of the movie. And I appreciate his dedication to the Puss's musical motif. My favorite examples are: Bad Kitty, Chasing Tail, Honor and Justice, and the Puss Suite. I adore the licensed music they used, because it feels so genuine and not like corporate attempts at appealing to demographics with cheap pop music. Specifically, I love the song used for the dance battle and the credits music. There are also just so many moments of pure musical joy, like the way he orchestrates puss doing that spin jump thing he does (example: when he tries to lead the Mama Goose towards humpty) or the prelude to the dance battle which is directly played in universe by the other cats. Or even that short segment in that very funny moment where Kitty splashes milk on Puss's boots, the music was so good. I implore you to check out the full expanded score of the movie so you get the full unedited experience. Henry Jackman just has a mastery over music and producing some amazing ear worms. None of this is to knock on The Last Wish. Again, it has some great tunes. It's just that Puss in Boots 1 did a better job of standing out, being stylistically accurate, and making a memorable motif for Puss. I kinda just wish they kept the main theme from the original at the very least. I hope that gives you a better understanding of my position. Thank you again for this comment!

Oh yes, and...thank you for choosing the video clips that are pertinent to your narrative as it goes along. Makes a tremendous difference IMO.
