Me too....I am holding back the tears...not just at this Queen singing this song....but the sight of all of that black beauty in one place in unity...that's what we have lost since this time....BLACK UNITY!!!
Yes..we had so many Fantastic artists, it was difficult to have A favorite. Temptations was my male group.. But Martha & Vandellas, The Emotions, The Supremes, Evelyn Champagne King..Queen Aretha, Gladys Knight& Pips, Chaka Khan, Mavis Staple, ETTA JAMES! on and on and on! Could never choose ♥️
Yes!!! finally found it! I've searched through so many videos trying to find this song, but couldn't remember who sung it. This is the version that I grew up listening to. None of the other covers can compare to Kim Weston's version. Powerful and moving song!
Yes yes yes, WE sang BLACK NATIONAL ANTHEM, TO BE YOUNG GIFTED & BLACK, & OTHERS at my HS graduation from West Philly High in the early 70s. WE ARE STILL MARCHING IN NUMEROUS WAYS UNTIL WE ARE TOTALLY LIBERATED. NEVER GIVE UP---> KEEP IT MOVING FORWARD! ✊🏿💝🙏🏿
Though there were many songs of inspiration and consciousness at that time, one of my favorite was "Black Seeds Keep On Growing" by The Main Ingredient. It has a timeless message of inspiration for our people!
I grew up in a black suburb in the 80s and we sang that from elementary school and all the way to high school!! And when I went to Meharry Medical School we sang it in assemblies, I love it when we as black people come together and sing this, I always tear up at the end. BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! #BLACKLOVE

I'm telling you brother!! It makes me proud too as a black man...and I feel good all over!! Hearing this and watching our black people singing together, fists in the air....pure BLACK UNITY!! At a time when when we were focused on helping each other and not worried about integrating and assimilating with white people!!
I'm a white middle-aged guy originally from the suburbs of Detroit and this really moves me. This film is criminally underappreciated. Questlove, please lift this one up as well!
Kim Weston is ALIVE and WELL. My cousin who works at the Motown Museum (Motown Hitsville) taken a photo with her 7/28/19. May God continues to bless her.

America's Nkosi sikelel iAfrica. If they won't replace the Star-Spangled Banner, they should try to blend it with Lift Every Voice and Sing, just like what South Africa did.
I still get chills when I hear this✊🏽

Kim Weston has NEVER gotten her real credit. She is one of Detroit's best singer and that's saying a lot in a city where everybody can sing!

Be greatful look how far we came it was way worse and we cannot relate with them a single bit
I want everyone to watch this, from nearly 50 years ago, and vow that 2072, 50 years from now, will be a substantially different world.
Best version I could find and the visual makes it even better

I like this alot. Kim Weston can sing anything and make it sound really good. And, there'll never be another Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

😊hi
The Biden Harris inauguration sent me here.
I don't agree with any type of racial devide.......
If you’re too ignorant to know why there, ever was a black national anthem, go look up the third verse of the American national anthem🖕🏾
If you're still amongst the living, you clearly did not listen (and take to heart) the lyrics.
I don't like it when they call it the Black National Anthem it was written for all people
Timothe Lambert nope
Timothe Lambert No it wasn't, it was written by a black man especially for us!
learn the history please
WRONG This is called the Negro National Anthem for a reason.
