      Looks like they got the transport down. If radiation isn't getting out, one guy with a camera isn't getting in. There's probably armed guards in the convoy to boot and a shutoff for the truck in case someone tries to jack it.

      well if you look it up its just contaminated water most likely off tritium, its not exactly uranium or radon or something. i used the references from the side it normally brings up a database page etc disclaiming what each thing is.

      Modular trailers which you saw there, turn independent of each other and are common sighs on bridge trailers used to haul 300-500 ton transformers, not that hard but have their own inherent difficulty to that of the corner it must make.

      These specialized "carts" have articulating remote control axles. Some are controlled by the driver in the cab - but many are operated by a passenger in the following pilot car. It's quite an operation. There is training/certification involved.

      Radioactive waste containers are shielded. For example, Magnox nuclear flasks (containers) are covered in a 15 inch thick layer of steel, though it may be thinned to allow for high-level nuclear waste (waste from reactors, for example) to have additional lead shielding.

    As a npp employee I'm glad you aren't freaking out at potential radiation exposure like the commenters are. The rads from that container are guaranteed to be next to none. Less than 1mrem per hour from where your standing

      12345timm you ever heard of them messing up your official exposure. I got my report back after the end of the outage and it said i reciaved 0 but i know for a fact at one point i was doing containment closure and recieved at least .8mrem everyday for 2 weeks

A coworker went to process out of the RCA and when he put his dosimeter in the computer, he lost 33 mrem from his yearly allotted dose all in one night. We know for a fact he didn't catch more than 0.2 mrem in that night. So definitely a glitch

      It's probably not liquid. Most likely, at 167 tons, spent uranium fuel rods. Old ones, well cooled.

      That canister could get hit by a freight train running 80 MPH while in that crossing, and the result would be a scraped and dented canister and a totally destroyed locomotive. (Yes, they have physically tested that exact scenario.)

      The container is lead and concrete. The actual cargo space is not very large. They have seriously upgraded the trucks though. Last time I saw one up close, it was 100,000 lbs on a 24 wheel trailer.

      It said on the side of the container that it was 333,00 pounds. I'd say it's an appropriate size considering that is well over 3 times the weight of a regular loaded tractor trailer.

    Additional information on this.
    This is transport ID WVDP-TC-471. West Valley Demonstration plant, in west virginia. a Fuel reporcessing test plant. so that was either ' going to the Nevada test site to offload low level waste, or heading back to the site to pick up more.

    I saw one of these DOE rigs go through Lodi,Ca. once. I was nearly run of the road by DOE pickups with men inside with ARs visible through the pickups windows. Ca. Highway patrol motorcycles and cars with DOE vehicles took turns leapfrog to block the intersections as the rig went down the middle of the two lane hwy 12. It never stopped as the law enforcement blocked all intersections. Must have been 30 vehicle convoy
