- Samsung's ATIV S might be late to the party, but the festivities are still in full swing in the Windows Phone 8 world as we close out the year. Since receiving our review unit, we've given you an unboxing and hardware tour, compared it to the Lumia 920, given it the full review treatment, and talked it to pieces on today's episode of the Pocketnow Weekly. Now it's time to put it up against its Android-powered predecessor, its spiritual sibling, the Galaxy S III.
Normally our comparison videos focus on specs, app launch times, benchmarks, and so forth. With a video like this, though, that's impractical. The platform differences between Android and Windows Phone are extreme, and if you're a prospective buyer, you've already given thought to which ecosystem you're committing to.
That said, there are significant hardware similarities between these smartphones, so many that the ATIV S's unofficial nickname around these parts is "the Galaxy S III with Windows Phone" (creative, I know). So, for those buyers still vaccillating between Microsoft and Google, or those just curious about how different or alike these devices actually are, click the video above to get a little nerdy with us. In this "just for fun" comparison, we quickly pit the ATIV S against the Galaxy S III in three areas: build, display, and camera. (Spoiler alert: these phones are a lot alike!)

If you want a straight forward, simple and fast phone, go with Ativ S and Windows. If you want bunch of animations, fancy shit for little girls, million of background processes, go with Android. Simple as that.
Yes, comparison between devices with different OS is impractical. But it actually gives a lot of perspective for new users, specially when trying to choose a new Smartphone with a different platform. It this case both Samsung, both flagships, one for Windows and the other for Android. Your videos are really great, and this is a good comparison.
I like how Samsung made variations with the same hardware. I currently carry around the Samsung Focus and Samsung Captivate everyday. Hardware and button locations is completely identical but the shapes are inverted with the original Galaxy S designs as apposed to the Galaxy S III.

...unless you're a professional who needs a calibrated display, in which case there's a phone model, can't remember which brand or model, that has a calibrated screen (which probably looks good), but the best solution for most people is to get a phone with an OLED screen, install a custom ROM (or kernel at least, set the screen up (using whatever settings your kernel offers) to get less saturated colors (a setting called "natural" on my SGSII did the trick) and turn up blue when it goes yellow.
Why is everyone forgetting about the batterylife?
I have switched over from an HTC Desire HD to an Ativ S and I have noticed how important batterlylife really is. A strong battery makes you using your phone much more and intense, wich should be the goal of buying a good phone.
I would like to know wich one of these 2 devices has a better batterylife! I think the Ativ S, because of the Processor and the less sophisticated OS.

Though I agree with a huge amount your saying, the lumia does provide nokia exclusive apps which are very good
I had a Windows Phone (Samsung Focus) and now I have a Sony Xperia ion (Android), Tbh I wanna get the ATIV S and go back to Windows Phone because of the speed and it's beauty. I admit Android has way more compatibility with the world, but Windows Phone is growing its apps. Seriously through, Windows Phones are kicking ass.

After four years of Android I'm done with it. The Galaxy S3 was ok, but the Galaxy S5 kinda disappointed me. The Android 5.0 problems made me to leave Android for good.
I always had battery problems with Android phones. My brother has now three years the Samsung Ativ S and he hasn't expierence any problems with his phone.
At this price, it would be better to compare the samsung galaxy mini S3 and the samsung ATIV S. Because ATIV is 100 euros cheaper. It's not the same price. The specifications of the samsung ATIV S are better than the S III mini at the same price.

I really like this video, but I personally like Android better mainly because it offers apps unavailable to windows phones. Such a instagram. These kind of things REALLY need to be fixed on windows phones.

I dont think that Ativ has aluminium back cover.Its plastic with alu look.All plastic body like sgs3 and almost the same size and weight.

Great phones! Ativ has a better shape
...until you install a custom rom and fix Samsung's "fix" to the problem of OLED display pixels wearing unevenly, mainly blue pixels wearing out faster than red and green ones, something samsung "fixed" by basically cranking up the blue level so the display looks bluish when new and only starts looking sensible once worn in (or hacked) instead of looking reasonably white for a while and then going yellow, which would put consumers off.
Best phone screen you can get these days is an OLED...
