Hi Chuck and Kara, I am a 70 year old woman who retired in October , living in Chiang Mai. The last 6 weeks have been difficult. The heat and the smoke kept me inside most of the time and I started to feel very homesick. The last few days it has rained and the smoke has dissipated allowing walks outside. I can feel my mood lifting. Hopefully Kara benefits from the change in the weather.

Poor Kara, she is trying so hard to be positive but she is lonely. Maybe she should move to where more expats are? Chuck and Paige are busy living thier lives… understandably. Hope all works out. Sending lots of love.

I'm living in rural Thailand also and after a while even if your a quiet person it gets old. The Novelty wears off. We need communication even if with just a few people and we need to see things we can assimilate with...
We're looking at condos in Chonburi/Pattaya Naklua and selling our country side in the province home.

This video with Kara really hit me hard. My brother died and my mom became deaf 2 days after his death from stress. I flew home from Thailand to help her and I tried to move her to Thailand but she refused. I tried for several years. She broke her hip and became super depressed and was forced into a hospital where she committed suicide by not eating. I really hope Kara stays in Thailand and finds balance. Kara’s face looks like my mom. Chuck and I are similar age. I think Kara is awesome and I am hopeful.

I don’t know if you remember me but I moved to Bangkok about a month or so after your mom moved to Thailand and I’m 71. I have found expat groups on Facebook and Meetup that have activities that I can go to I just take a grab there and back. I know there are Nakon Phanom groups on Facebook. Just an idea.
I traveled here with my cat 🐈‍⬛ alone from the US. I made arrangements when I booked my flights to have a wheelchair, they wheeled me through immigration and you get to board the plane first.

Well that is a tough one...Worrying about loved ones always is...BUT.....Yours is not to reason why or why not your mom does this or that nor is it important what you think of the person she wants to see. Your a good son & it is understandable you worry but she is not your kid & even if she was you would again have to let go & realize people ultimately are just passing thru. They have their own path to follow, life to live. Good Luck to your mom going forward...I think she is quite tough enough to do anything she wants 😉

Perhaps premium economy or business class is the comfort way for long distance travel ja ❤

I know exactly what its like staying in that apartment with nobody to talk to Chuck. First hand experience. My girl was working from 7am to 5pm, so I was always alone in that apartment and I began to feel very claustrophobic, I actually felt anxiety at times, I felt abandoned. I wanted to spend six weeks with my girl and four weeks of the duration I was in that caged garden looking at the mountains. Of course, I walked to the Naga every single day to keep occupied but even that was becoming repetitive.
The one thing that I wish that I had while staying in that apartment, was a Thai language course. I wish I could have went to Thai school while staying there but I couldnt have because I was left Thailand a few days before your mother moved in. That teacher you know in That Phanom, I remember you introduced her to us in one of your videos. How much baht to learn Thai with her and how long is the course, is it 3 months or 6 months? I think your Mother would greatly benefit and very much enjoy having to attend a school to learn Thai. It would be fun, enjoyable, it would help consume the days of monotony and boredom.
I agree with you about the state of America at the moment, I would be terrified if my mother (shes 74) wanted to travel alone because just like you, I take care of my Mum and I know she couldnt do it and I would be stressed thinking someone might convince her not to go back to Thailand or have radical conflicting political views.
Kara, enjoy Udon. Chuck is right, you just need to get out of the house, fresh air, do different things and keep the brain occupied and connect with some people. Good luck!!

Nissan truck, give your mother some of the doubt Jesus Christ. The only thing you have to do is get assistance in the airport and they will take care of everything until she gets to the States you should know this. I'm a tour manager. You create the scenario, man let this lady live her life! I know you are responsible but she is not a kid. You act like she is getting ready to go into the jungle lol.

Hey..back up Tour Dog ..how old are you?? Im 74 and have traveled many places in my life and agree that the trip going and coming would be handled by the airline folks pretty well. Its what happens after you leave the airport...and the wheelchair goes away...and then if your not in the best shape and your are not sure who is available/willing to lend assistance...the risks for problems increases. Kara could have gone for a visit when her son did but she chose to wait. Use your head for something besides a hat rack and be sensible about things and think them thru...wouldnt you agree..???

Why are you insulting me? Use my head other than a coat rack? I will give you a pass you don't even know what you have stepped on!!! But logistically when you leave the airport at her age there is always somebody waiting for you so that means you leave the doors of the airport and you get in the car or taxi.
If she can't do that then she should not be traveling.
It doesn't take a coat rack to figure that out!!!

Almost impossible to learn any language after 60-She is a trooper-needs some assistantance- but you can’t tell her to have this friend-or go to this store-we all want independence! From time to time even a introvert person needs some change and a person to talk with.
At least every three month you should travel a bit arround, Malaysia and Oman are nice places too.
Chuck you should be aware that because of Kara you have a lot of more followers😉 and more income.

Good morning Chuck and Paige. Knowing it is a very difficult task, moreover at her age, so it is very understandable if she doesn't like to do it and/or if she can't do it, it would be fantastic if Kara would give a try to learn Thai up. It would be beneficious for very reasons as been occupied two or three days per week going to take the lessons, been able to communicate with locals and for instance going on a trip to the beach with her friend, beside to improve even more her relation with Paige, Mafia, Paw Red and the rest of the gang. Your mom looks lonely. You are a great son and you wanted her to be close to you so you can protect her, but I think it was a mistake to bring her to Isan. She would be way happier in a place like Hua Hin, where there are many western women her age. She looked so much happier when she was hanging out with her friend in Prachuap. It looked in some of the videos like you were coaxing her to say certain things and she just agrees because she loves you.

Hey Chuck and Paige and Mom , I feel for your Mom. I'm 76 and leaving on Tuesday to go back to America and I'm not looking forward to it. I've been gone for more than 4 years and I know everything is going to be different. I don't move like I used to and walking is difficult. I know it's going to be difficult on me but I have things to do that I can't do from here. Luckily I have a good Thai friend that will let me use one of his cars so I have the transportation part fixed. He also has a room I can stay in so that won't be a problem. The problem is Social Security and my health insurance. Those are going to be the difficult ones for me. If it wasn't for those things I would just stay in Thailand.
QUESTION: Chuck, when you fly out of Thailand and go to another country and you have a retirement Visa and coming back to Thailand, you have to get some kind of paper to come back into Thailand so you are still on your retirement visa. Where at the airport do you get that paper?

It will be a challenge but airlines are equipped to get her from point A to point B. Your job will be to schedule the shortest flights and line up pick ups in US. She has managed very well in Thailand, the US will be a breeze. She amazes me and I know she will find her way. It will be good for her. People help each other when we travel. You will be able to track her every step of the way!

America is so divided and crazy in every way right now. My bestie was in a nail salon in a very nice neighborhood in Henderson NV. suburb of Vegas. The salon was robbed and my friend was yelling at the crooks and one of them spit in her face. We have a major issue with the homeless. If you are somewhat happy where you are stay there.

Hi Chuck. Please try to convince your mom to start learning Thai. I understand it may take longer for an older person to pick up a new language but there is no better time to start than now! Eventually, she will become more fluent and will be able to communicate with the Thai locals. This could open up a whole new world for your mom. Furthermore, getting Mom to learn a new language will prevent her brain from shrinking due to lack of stimulation.

@@saddq1 Give Kara more credit. She can do it but lacks the motivation. Kara likes hiding in her cave but it's taking a toll on her mental health.

Did the extreme heat over the last month get to your mum and put her off Thailand? I would assume that she spent most of her time in her apartment over that period. No wonder she's lonely / depressed. Personally I don't understand why single people live in such far flung Issan provinces. When Thailand has so much to offer. Fine to visit or live there if you're married but single? Seems to have moved from PKK to Nakon Phanom on a whim.

Hi Chuck……..you too Kara😅…….anyway please listen (ya don’t have to follow what I say , of course, lol). I’m kinda like your Mom, except Kara is in better shape. I am 76 yrs old and have a rough time with arthritis, have reoccurring diverticulitis every once in a while. I LOVE my private time. There are things I’d like to do, but know I can’t. Also I stay away from negativity, I have not watched TV since 2015. I can’t stand liars, ugh, and we’ve been lied to since the beginning of time. I don’t repeat unless I’m sure in what I’m saying. Yes Kara, a lot of crap going on in the U.S….actually all over the globe. Im with you, Even I could still travel alone, the airlines will put you in a wheel chair in the airport, you could probably walk in the airplane (you just tip the person pushing you $5-$10)
I know you can do it BUT……….NOT NOW. WAIT FOR ABOUT 4-5 months. Kara, make a deal with Chuck, if you feel you need him to assist you home to Thailand, give him a call. Chuck, you don’t have anything better to do for a couple of days….actually I bet your Mom will only need help from the Bangkok to her home. I’m saying to wait for a very good reason….safer in Thailand right now. That’s all I’ll say. So Bottom Line Is….Take your trip to the U.S. and give Chuck a call if you should need him….BUT NOT WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.

Chuck, it’s nice to see that you worry so much about your mom’s health and happiness!!!
You have other children that couldn’t care less about their parents because they’re all wrapped up in their lives!

Chuck, you should encourage Kara to learn a little Thai so she feels more connected to the culture. Seems like a big part of her difficulties stem from her inability to communicate. If she felt like she could communicate better she might be motivated to get out more.

Chuck, continue to do what you are doing for Kara. It takes time, so stay patient and NOT listen to the naysayers. You know the "old" saying about opinions! Kara is looking well; needs a "life activity" buddy. Take it with a grain of salt Chuck, that's an opinion too. Hahahahahahahaha!

Isn’t your mama Christian? There are real evangelical biblical Christian churches all over Thailand!
Take her to different congregations and let her pick one, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
If I ever move to Thailand, which I had been wanting to do for a few years, that’s the first thing I will do as a born again Christian.
A child of God must have live Christian fellowship and a local church/congregation!
Otherwise, she will not be feeling well there.
Please do it for her, Chuck! That’s the only thing she really needs right now.
God help you all, in Jesus Christ’s holy name.
    Shalom 👋👋
