The Mt. Charleston Wilderness is located 45 minutes away from Las Vegas. Spring Mountain National Recreation Area has mountain air, ice-cold springs, and evergreen forest. This cool-weather haven has a total area of 56,018 acres and is managed jointly by the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
Because of its high elevation and isolation from the vastly different desert lowlands, Mt. Charleston is known as a sky island. This wilderness stretches along the crest of the Spring Mountains, mostly north-south, and features towering cliffs, deep narrow canyons, and waterfalls. steep hillsides and barren wind-swept summits.
The Mt. Charleston Wilderness offers a unique and beautiful backdrop for both summer and winter activities. Winter entertainment. Hiking, horseback riding, and camping trips are all great ways to explore the high country. The area is covered by nearly 40 miles of trails. With significant elevation changes, the wilderness offers spectacular views and endless challenges.
