the best and most honest portrayal about the differences between men and women.

No..the difference between people who want to own and want to love. I see many men who have a problem with male friends of girlfriends or wives. Thinking if they control them? They’ll keep them. Taking away their choices. As if that buys loyalty.

@@cmo9400 I'm not sure I understand your point . . .in this scene (and most of this great film), Meryl is operating from an emotional premise of insecurity. She marries the cad, he gives an STD that almost kills her. She stays with him. Redford is the anti-cad, a true gentleman who sees past Meryl's insecurity and discovers her incredible strength and empathy. You sound angry at men.......I see nowhere in this film where Redford tries to take away her ability or willingness to choose.

@@billrayburn2775 I’m responding to your premise that men don’t want to be possessed or possess but women do. It isn’t the difference between men and women. It’s the difference between the people who see relationships as ownership and people who see relationships as a mutual agreement to care for each other without trying to own anyone. To see each other as free humans who choose to be together and as such, they don’t limit or attempt to control. She’s wants to control him. It’s because she is afraid. She’s under the delusion that she can control him by extracting a promise to not be around other women. Unlike her ex- bob won’t lie and tell her that she owns him. He says no. You don’t get to control how or with whom I spend my time. You will have to trust in a man of my word and that my ethics hold and aren’t situational/ She’d rather have the lie. It’s not a male or female thing. It’s a fear thing. Many Men are as fearful and possessive as she is in the movie.

@@cmo9400 "No"?...that's your opening gambit? Clearly your intent is for a monologue, not a dialogue.

My God, in the world that you would make, there'll be no love at all
Or the best kind, the kind we wouldn't have to prove

He’s an anarchist, perhaps to the truest sense of the word. Admire the character even more now, after years of coming back to this movie.

Most remarkable exchange between a MAN and a WOMAN.
Who we are sexually could not be more demonstrably exhibited. :>).

¿WTF? There are completely possessive men who do not let their women breathe in peace. This has nothing to do with sex.
