Illegal IPTV Streaming Services - How To Know the Difference

  • In this video I talk about how to tell the difference between an illegal IPTV service and a legal streaming service like TH-cam TV. Illegal IPTV services offer thousands of channels for a very low price. Some people may not be aware they are using one. Using an IPTV service can get you disconnected by your internet service provider or even sued!

Limewire is not a IPTV service. It's a peer to peer file sharing service. They got sue by the movie studios, and the TV networks and cable network around 14 or 15 years ago.
They didn't get shut down, cause the law enforcement service didn't want it shut down, cause some of the people were sharing illegal files of under age people and the law enforcement service wanted to arrest as many they can catch. They couldn't do so if Limewire and other file sharing service like were shut down.
So instead the Judge allow Limewire to continue service and to pay every legal file that was share to it copyright owner.

Tyler, I get where you're coming from, but I had no option when I built out my tvheadend system. I was able to tie in my 3 hdhomerun tuners with 3 different markets seamlessly with all of my other "cable" channels. I can map whatever channels wherever, and it'll pick which antenna is best for each channel based on priorities set for each channel in the server.
DirecTV didn't even give me the ability to watch the channels I paid for on my Linux desktop, let alone integrate it into this system, which is why I started looking at these alternatives and ultimately built out my own system using these providers.
The heavy handed approach the "legitimate" providers are taking in an attempt to put the genie back in the bottle backfired. On the plus side, my TV setup is the envy of everyone who sees it. Quick, responsive, ad free, and my antennas have internet backups they'll automatically switch to if the OTA loses lock for whatever reason. Whole home DVR with separate profiles for each household member, seamless network roaming..
You may not like the concept of illegal streams, but there is no legitimate way to accomplish this otherwise. I tried. This was my option. You'd understand if you ever got a chance to see just how good a TV setup can be when unshackled from the restrictions the providers place on them.
Demonize the providers if you wish, but some of us consumers have reasons to appreciate having this alternative option.

There are a lot of brands currently in stores that are made in Mexico. For all we know, all made in the same third party plant, with common parts like tuners, but each brand customizing the chip, display panel, and system ( roku, amazon, google) . Hear me out. I only use illegal iptv services for out of market rsns since most providers don't let you view them except for directv cable with an addon. It also saves you the hassle of installing multiple apps to watch the out of market games. Nfl is a great example actually since Sunday ticket is still stuck on directv until the end of season. I can get every other sports I need with legal providers.

For $9/month, just to get ONE TV station you can get in MOST places free via OTA/Broadcast TV (like when I was in Colorado Springs) -- METV -- it's worth it to me. Copyright originally deserved respect. Not anymore. Basically, if you want to sell intellectual property, you enter into privately-negotiated contracts with each buyer detailing the limits upon the transfer (otherwise it's considered complete under common law). Copyright was created to lessen that burden in order to "promote useful arts & sciences" (as the US constitution recognized it). Society benefits when creative people create (inventors invent). But, there was an expectation that these "umbrella contract" properties would revert to being owned by society via the Public Domain. It was a quid pro quo. We (society) facilitate the contractual limitation the transfer of property, making it easier for creators (nobody's making them use copyright. They could choose to pursue private contracts with each sale. They choose copyright because it's easier.). In return, we (society) gets a treasure trove of property via the Public Domain.
At the time of the constitution (1789), copyright was like a 14-year duration (with an optional 14-year renewal). In 1831, it became 28 years + optional 14. It wasn't until 1909 that it became 28 + optional 28 years. Starting in 1976, things tilted outrageously toward the interests of creators (actually, corporate interests). Now we're at 95 + 120, or life of the author + 70 years.
It's hardly a quid pro quo now. Windows 3.1 won't enter the Public Domain for another 70 years. It wouldn't be worth anything to anyone today, let alone then. Basically, the socially-created umbrella contract has become a private contract to the benefit of creators (or the corporations who own intellectual property). They'd never dream of reverting to private contracts because they have all the benefits of private contracts via public law. It's society who is now shortchanged in that (what was) balance of give/take.
I wish Tyler was more activist about some of these things, rather than parroting the line (they want us to accept, with open wallets). It's like he signals "sensibility." But, not everything deserves sensibility. There are things to be outraged about (and protest with civil disobedience). It's scary. But, it's real. Copyright has become a corrupt, one-sided transaction (compared to what it was intended to be).

False information in this video. I have a streaming app with thousands of channels for $20 a month. They have licensed vendors supplying the content. That's all that's needed to run a legal service. The streams are top notch too, which is another way to see if it's "legal." As mentioned in a comment already, it's a crime how much cable companies have been charging us for years now. They literally make up their own prices, so maybe instead of asking how a service can charge so little, we should be asking how a service can charge so much.
