  • We meaning those who are truly Americans, those who believe in patriotism and understand the truth as it was laid down in the sacrifices of those before us, have listened to these words and when in grade school even recited these words and in the lives of many, have simply let them go in one ear and out the other. Now as never before let us not only listen but let us have an ear to HEAR and the courage to do something about it. Friends we must pray as never before because America is crying out to God that He might save this nation and whether or not we believe it "Change is coming" and in the hearts and minds of those who are leading the change, true America is NOT in their plan. America Bless God.

Wow. That's nailing it. The voice, the cadence, everything. That's how Lincoln sounded. Prefect.

John Wayne, made an appearance on the Dean Martin television program in 1966. John Wayne’s youngest daughter, Marisa, was only 8 months old. Dean Martin asked John Wayne what he wanted for his baby daughter. Here was his answer:
“I’d like her to know some of the values we knew as kids … some of those values that too many people these days are thinking are old-fashioned … Most all, I want her to be grateful as I am, every day of my life, to live in these United States.
The first thing my daughter’s learning from me is the Lord’s Prayer, and some of the Psalms. And I really don’t care if she ever memorizes the Gettysburg Address, just so long as she understands it. And, since little girls are seldom called upon to defend their country, she may never have to raise her hand
for that oath … but, I certainly want her to respect all those who do.
I guess that’s about what I want for my daughter …”

Dear "Dr. St. Beckes," whomever thou art: I have learned over the years to be wary of anyone who uses the word "patriotism," for any reason. In fact, it has been my experience that such people are the least patriotic folks of all. If you adhere to the beliefs I suspect you adhere to- intolerant Christianity and intolerant Trumpism- then you would be disappointed to learn that neither Gregory Peck or Abraham Lincoln were your version of patriotic. Just the opposite, actually- meaning intellectual, liberal elitists, who would despise Donald Trump and the fundamentalist knownothing Christian movement he pretends to admire. That said, this was the most moving rendition of the Address I ever heard. You probably have no clue that, following the Civil War, Lincoln held no grudge toward the South, and was wonderfully magnanimous in victory. Do you think Trump would have shown such a willingness to forgive and forget? Never mind- dumb question, because Trump would have been on the side of the conservative slave holders, rather than the liberal Abolitionists. So please spare us any more of your conservative platitude patriotism. Every great hero in American history was a radical. Radicals make history: conservatives are lost in their shadows.
