  • I have been privileged to help many clients start their own cotton candy business. Today I focus on the six main steps required to get started; decide on the type of cotton candy you want to sell (organic or traditional, or both, packaging method, wholesale/retail), check local food laws and permits, make a basic business plan, purchase necessary equipment and supplies, market your cotton candy products, and grow your team.
    Interested in purchasing our pre-packaged cotton candy, check out our shop here; www.spunparadise.com/organic
    Want to spin up your own cotton candy, our USDA certified organic sugar floss is available here; www.spunparadise.com/sugarfloss

    HI, I came across your videos and so happy I did. I had so many questions and watching your videos have pretty much answered them all. First let me thank you for the information. you are such an inspiration to so many. I have one question when it comes to making your own flavors. As a starting point what is the recommended ratio to mixing sugar and flavors? I just watched your maple sugar video and you recommended 2 to 1. Would you recommend the same for creating your own cotton candy flavors?

    • @spunparadise8823
      @spunparadise8823  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roz, we sell the flavored cotton candy sugars on our website if you need them. As far as making your own, I recommend trial and error, putting a vanilla bean in some sugar for 5 weeks, mint leaves, etc. Thanks!

    I'm just starting out and bought i machine (commercial $189 machine) I got it for $60 which is a steal. And I'm going the organic route. Planning on doing some prepackaging maybe a local grocery store and I'm planning on farmers market. And maybe eventually I'll have a food trailer but I'm just starting with not doing live spinning especially since I'm still figuring out a technique.

      Pricing will definitely depend on the area you are in. I have clients that charge anywhere from $100-$400 per hour. Also the size of the event, toppings, cart customization, and types of materials they want the cotton candy spun on will affect pricing.

    Pricing question for you. How do you decide how much to charge a client for spinning live at an event (for say 150-200 ppl) VS. Bagging the cotton candy for the event? Also how do you portion control in this situation... Do you use one or 2 (or more) of the scoops per serving?

    • @spunparadise8823

    Be prepared to come A cotton candy technician cause your gonna burn out machines one after another specially if you get an Carnival king even the vivos got six of them only two running I did dial in on what the problem is it’s thermostats so after I replace those and she doesn’t run them continuously( longer than an hour/ a 20 min break all should be well

    • @spunparadise8823
      @spunparadise8823  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We can ship to Italy. Please email me info@spunparadise.com. The packaging has to be air tight, have you tried glass with a mason jar lid? It is a very tight seal. Otherwise bags need to be at least 3mil thick.

    A lot of machines say not to add sugar while it is spinning, and that you should turn the spinner off when adding sugar. I do not see this as realistic when making different colors and sculptures while you have customers waiting. Do you have any advice about this? I have watched lots of videos and it seems that people tend to ignore this and just keep adding sugar when it is still spinning. Thanks! Very nice videos.

    • @spunparadise8823
      @spunparadise8823  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the type of machine. If it's a vertical release, you can only add sugar while it is running. If it's a larger horizontal machine like a Gold Medal, then yes, you generally turn off the machine otherwise wires will eventually start to strip, but it would take a long time for them to do so.

    Health Dept are now requiringhand-washing stations, any guidance there? What about a "washing station" for the bubble or machine?

    • @spunparadise8823
      @spunparadise8823  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It completely depends on your county and state. Every county is different. Some may allow a station just for the machine, where other counties don't require a station at all. We use a drink cooler with warm water and soap as our station, this is what is allowed in our county.

    Hi! Have you ever had clients whose counties or states required sinks in their carts? It seems that this is a non-negotiable for my health department as a cotton candy cart would be classified as any other mobile food unit (unfortunately not a cottage food according to our dept of agriculture since actual food production occurs outside of the home by spinning the sugar onsite). Just curious if you've ever heard this feedback elsewhere or have seen carts with a sink element... I've yet to come across one cotton candy cart online that appears to have a sink!

    • @spunparadise8823
      @spunparadise8823  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you inquiring at the health dept for doing events such as farmers markets or private events such as weddings? If you're doing a farmers market and making on site, you should be able to do a separate handwashing sink in your booth, which in any states I am aware of can consist of a water cooler with a continuous flow spout, paper towel, and soap with a bucket under the cooler to catch the handwashing water. If it's private events, it shouldn't make a difference, at least that is what our experience has been in any states we have worked in. Also, I would ask them if if makes a difference if the cart is not on wheels? Another thought is for now making bags at home and then selling bags at the farmers market. You could still take the cart for esthetics, etc.

    • @StephD83100
      @StephD83100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spunparadise8823 I've been told that it would be a requirement for any carts whatsoever, even for private events. Private events are actually what I'm mostly interested in, although markets would be great for the purpose of marketing. I'm hopeful I can start with private events, and eventually add farmer's markets to the mix :) I'm told our county health dept has particularly strict requirements which may explain why I'm not aware of any cotton candy carts in the area!
