Hi, i'm a reggae organ beginner and i have started a facebbok group called "REGGAE ORGAN TIPZ AND TRIX" for all the reggae and organ fans out there where every body can share their videos, techniques, ideas, drawbar setting, tipz & trix, favorit songs and where beginners could find some information. Greetings and please come and join....
I've been coming back to this video over 10 years now because I can never remember how to set my draw bars on the Organ VST use xD Thank you so much man
Glad everyone is getting good use out of this vid, and I most def appreciate the compliments. VertX I'm in Echo Movement- check us out online. RootsReggaeFH we are from coastal New Jersey. For this video, I'm in Am and the progression is Am G. Ganja chords are Bb Fm. Cheers bro. Wish you all the best in reggae and beyond.
finally..! Have been practising the whole day and finally managed to bubble..! :D Man it was harder than I though, but i made it..! Thanks for the video, it was helping a lot!
Hi there. Actually I also play and you may want to change your options to playing the skank to left hand. The bubble is optional thee days but the skank can be kept constant and the right hand plays the bubble and can also play the horn lines etc etc and organ fills.
Dave thank you for this . I am a Gospel artist (keyboards)... recording a first time Gospel reggae Cd and I love some reggae,,,,,,,Also tempo has a lot to do with it,,, and all song dont need the bubble,, again thank you
Excellent videos!! I came here because I was researching the Nord and found your tutorial then your group. I'm in Eugene OR and turning all my friends in the Whit onto your music. Hope you tour close to the Emerald Valley. We
Hey real helpful vid !!! I've got a nord C1 so i get the same sound and an old roland XP 50 for the piano. Thanks for adding the vid. I think its brilliant that guys like you take time out to record these things to teach people and all for free. Awesome !!! Anyway all the best from Scotland.
@@hajhammereaux Sadly the lead bass player died in a work related accident and the lead singer (and best friend) quit the band. The other musicians disbanded the group and.. all of this before we planned new gigs, and just after I noticed your video. So sadly I never got to play these licks / style.
@biggety20 no worries, my pleasure. It depends, but I usually hit full triads to define the chord and find inversions to be comfortable. The 1 & 5 is good when you want less mid-bottom resonance, I've found. I'm not familiar with the Electro 2- what happens when you hit the fast button again?...that should slow down the rotary effect. The Electro 3 is certified amazing, so if you find it in your budget, I strongly recommend the upgrade. Best, Dave
This was SO helpful. I'd read that you play a note on EVERY 16th and it sounded weird. This really adds the syncopated feel. Do you play the 16th's shorter and softer than the 2 and 4s? that's how I've done it and it sounds great. Thanks, dude.

Excellent stuff. What is the keyboard stand you're using? I have a Kronos and going to get either the electro3 or electro4D as the second. I'll use those settings. Thanks a lot!.
This was just a strange curiosity that popped into my head. I don't play the keys. Pretty sweet - couldn't have painted a clearer picture of where that beloved feel comes from.
hey dude thats awesome. i can play saxophone and drums but i want to learn keyboard. (i can play a few other instruments but ive stopped). i dont have enough money to afford both these keyboards so whats a good one to start with? im gonna be playing in a reggea band with my friends once i get good enough...but i need a keyboard first lol. what can i get for around 500$ or cheaper? something thats good for reggae
@RubyTuesdayLynn you kinda do need a organ, but... it depends on your sound... maybe it'll sound good with the band (if you have one) if not... if sounds good to you.. it sounds good :D
Nice, its very good to see you teaching a little bit of our music. After all reggae is apart of our culture. Nuff respek to yu for dat sah! Oh you guys call this the reggae bubble huh, we just like to call it chopping. Lol so the bubble means chopping in between chops.
@kawaim0m0 Count 4 beats....don't play on the first beat. Let the organ sound on the 2nd and the 4th and the piano (which is called the skank) sound on the 3rd. Practice the skank until it's like second nature. Play it really slow until you get the bubble right. [: 1(rest) 2(organ) 3(piano) 4(organ):]. If that doesn't make sense, I completely understand. LOL. If I have a 2 keyboards I like to have the piano on top and organ on bottom. It's easier for me. Basically, it's all about feel.
Man the electro sounds so awesome. Are there any cheaper alternatives? Ive heard the m1 is good, but looks ancient. I'm looking for a quality bubble sound for under $1000
+Lindsey Retif the korg m1 doesnt have a decent organ sound to create this kind of sound. A cheap solution would be to setup a midi keyboard with a computer and use a soft synth like Native Instruments B4 or the one that is included in Mainstage if you are using a Mac (which I highly recommend). Otherwise it might be hard to have an organ simulation that gives you the possibility to have full control over your drawbars etc.
Hi Dave, I miss your other video advanced Reggae Bubble, I can´t load it down. They wrote : private video. Do you know what happend? I like this video very much, cause it´s good for me to learn. Greatings from Germany Thomas
hey, am I crazy or is your rotary speaker knob set to 10? also when I set up the second manual you suggested it is sounding a lot thinner than yours, is there anything else going on here?
dave i respect you very much for teaching this. i have one question, i just cant really play a reggae bassline on my keyboard, is it really nescecary to buy a complete bassguitar to make a decent reggaebeat? i want to use only my keyboard, (with enough bassguitars on it) is it possible? (trompeth & saxophone is also very difficult)
excellent tuto i like the variation :) The only problem is when my band slowdown the tempo and at slow tempo it need more buble and i don't know yet how to do a bubble on very slow tempo.Any hint?

Thanks for the suggestion to split the bubble between an organ and keyboard sound. I just tried it and it's amazing.
Beeeeeeautiful. Oh yes, let's have more like this. Nice one & thanks!
Finally someones put a video out on how to get those bubbles!
This is such a great video with a clear explanation of the organ bubble. Awesome job!!!

Very goood!
great mix ... nice
thanks for the video
sounds great!
Hi, familiair techniques to me :-)
As a fellow reggaeband-keyboardist I really appreciate your video !!!
I can feel what you feel on the keys ;-)
Thank you.....
Great tutorial - thank you!!
most people play the pulse/beat with the left to give the right hand freedom for fills and solo's.
Actually you should play the skanks on the 2nd and 4th count, bubble on the offbeat 8ths. You can hear it if you play with a decent amount of swing.
great vid man keep making some videos please!!
Awesome video
You guys rock I love your music and the video when are coming back to nj to play the stone pony again

Hi! I'm giving a try on a Nord Electro 2, could you suggest me some organ setups for bubbling? Thanks!
Which Triton are you using? And what do you think of the Hammonds/Organs on the Triton?
so do you play the same exact chord(1st,3rd,5th or 1st,5th) with your left as you do with you right?
Can you do a video of the solo at the end of Red Sunday?
