We'll this song certainly slaps! Pretty excited for new Megadeth album The Sick, The Dying and The Dead now! I've tried to put this together as quickly as possible so you guys can play Dave Mustaine's parts. Kiko's solos are freaky and will need more time for those :) Tuning is D Standard and have included tabs so you guys can play along and learn it. This will make you're right arm burn for sure!!! In the six years since Megadeth released their last album, Dystopia, Dave Mustaine has survived a cancer scare, a global pandemic, and his 60th birthday. This summer, the steadfast speed-metal pioneers will put out its 16th album, The Sick, the Dying … and the Dead!, a typically breakneck thrashathon that musicians a third of Mustaine’s age would struggle to keep up with.
Did Mustaine have any reservations about the album title, a Black Plague reference he picked before Covid-19 became the new plague? “No,” he says on a Zoom from Switzerland, where the band is on tour. “For me to let the occurrences in modern current history tell me what I’m going to do and what I’m not going to do is not going to sit well with me.” Is there any particular reason he’s still writing speed-limit-crushing ragers today? “Well, I still have a couple of bands in my crosshairs that I’m going after,” he says, leaving the groups’ names up to readers’ imaginations.
Regardless of his motivations, Mustaine has fashioned The Sick, the Dying … and the Dead!, out Sept. 2, into an unrelenting exhibition of Megadeth’s prowess with songs about storming military helicopters (“Night Stalkers,” which features a guest appearance by Ice-T), coping with abandonment (“Dogs of Chernobyl”), vapid fame-seekers (“Celebutante”), and the perils of addiction (“Life in Hell,” “Junkie”). Musically, the album recalls Megadeth milestones Peace Sells and Countdown to Extinction. Mustaine co-produced the record with Chris Rakestraw, who also worked on Dystopia. That album’s lead guitarist, Kiko Loureiro, and drummer, Dirk Verbeuren, reprised their roles while Testament bassist Steve Di Giorgio handled four-string duties on the album following the ouster of longtime Megadeth bassist David Ellefson. Former Megadeth bassist James LoMenzo has since rejoined and is on tour with them.

Just a question... Are you sure the main riff is the A note from 4th string 7th fret? I'm pretty sure it plays the open A with the 5th string at 0 fret.
I know it is 1 tone downtuned.
Yeah that works! It’s most likely what Dave would do given his style. I’m obviously going very fast figuring these out and sometimes will play things slightly differently. The most important thing is, it’s music…there is always multiple ways to interpret and play a part on the guitar. Hope you’re having fun with this track
Filthy amazing....I totally realize you did this before Megadeth played this live (August 24 in LA). It appears Dave and Kiko play this intro riff at the 12th fret on the A string not on the D string at 7th. Petty, I know.

I went to the Aug 23 show in SF Bay Area, and they played it at sound check, but Dave said it still wasn't ready to play live. Sad face. There are a few live vids out now to watch their hands. I feel like the riffs are very simple for Megadeth in this song.
I hope they do more "proggy" I guess you could call it stuff with weirder structure and cool variations on riffs like Peace Sells and Rust in Peace did, but with more cool chromatic trademark Mustaine stuff, more dinamic riffs on the fretboard, with more movement across it, less 000000000000 3 5 6 stuff.
Maybe let Kiko do make some tight riffs, like he does in his songs.
This is just an opinion, but Marty's own songs are more my cup of tea in terms of overall "telling a story with solos that almost never repeat more than once or twice patterns" thing he has going for him, but the talent and that raw "sound" Kiko has is amazing. I don't know what it is I think he may be very on point with his placement of dissonant notes in a pattern that make them sometimes sound so cool. But then again, Marty also knows his way around dissonance.

Yeah man. I feel this one is just straight up oldschool 80s thrash on guitar. Kikos lead work really makes the song IMO. And yes hopefully we get a bit more craziness like some of what Dave was doing around Rust In Peace and Symphony of Destruction era. I’m still happy with it regardless though. Great song and great musicians
