fromsoft dlc has always gone SO hard, so i imagine elden ring's dlc is going to be insane

I saw a theory that Messmer is the unborn third triplet to Miquella and Malenia. Miquella is represented by the Nascent butterfly, Malenia by the Aeonian butterfly, and Messmer possibly by the Smoldering butterfly. Which makes sense, since fire is Messmer’s whole thing. In the trailer, he (or someone else) even says all Tarnished will be “scorched by Messmer’s flame”. There’s ALSO an unmarked grave near Leyndell with a Smoldering butterfly actually placed on it, which is the only place in the game that that happens. Everywhere else they’re fluttering around and you pick them up that way. So people are theorizing that’s actually HIS grave. Plus he has red hair, so he has to be related to Radagon by the game’s logic. And his name starts with M, not R, so he doesn’t follow the naming scheme of the Carian demigods. His name starts with M, which means relation to Marika, and his red hair means relation to Radagon. And as we know the only children of Marika and Radagon together were the twin Empyreans, Miquella and Malenia. And now maybe a secret third Empyrean who was hidden and sealed away in the Land of Shadow for some as of yet unknown reason. I’m SO excited to see what the hell Messmer is all about!
There's also a ghost who says "O Marika, Queen Eternal. He is your unwanted child." 👁️
Also we have to wonder what Messmer the Impaler was up to on the day the Fire Giants were all impaled in the Mountaintops.
Miyazaki confirmed in an interview that Messmer IS in fact a child of Marika. Also, there's a ghost NPC near the *Impaler's* Catacombs that talks about an "unwanted child of Marika", so I think it's pretty clear that this is referring to Messmer, especially since Miyazaki confirmed that Messmer was already in the lore from the beginning, Fromsoft just didn't weave him into the narrative until now in the DLC
@@virael3801 Good catch. The Impaler’s Catacombs always seemed like an interesting name since it seems sort of out of place. Most other catacombs have names that directly reference either their location or what’s inside them, but the Impaler’s Catacombs kinda just… doesn’t? I wonder what the relation between it and Messmer is aside from just the name
@@LtCdrXander Yeah, I’m so curious what the catalyst was for him being hidden away and struck out of history. The signs of his absence are there if you look for them, but was he hidden away in the LoS at birth or after? I wanna know about the timeline of it all
@@remylevine6519he represents all things blasphemous such as fire, serpents, dragon communion, the fire might be blood fire that’s probably wye he’s hidden. but this doesn’t mean he’s necessarily entirely evil he might have been born afflicted with all things sinful as a affliction if he is the child of marika and radagon but he might not be then it could be a nameless king type of situation also he seems disappointed or surprised that marika would give someone without grace lordship which is interesting and this is probably wrong but he could be the reason wye some things are known as blasphemy.

the 'barbed wire' around the burning giant, is actually bodies, the golem is stuffed with people and theyre sticking their arms out. you can se the heads of people, too
This DLC is going to be insane. It's like a whole new game and doesn't even feel like DLC. FromSoft always goes all out and I cant wait.
For sure. All their DLCs end up the best parts of the games so I literally cannot WAIT to lose my mind over yet another masterpiece
The large thing with the fire is a Wicker Man, a method of human sacrifice in Celtic/druidic mythology. Possibly just a myth, but also became more well known from a cult classic 70s movie and then an infamous Nicholas Cage remake movie of the same name.
A very similar version of a Wicker Man also appears in the most common Soulsborne inspiration material for Miyaaki - Berserk.
The giant Wickerman enemy actually has the heads of Fire Giants attached to both of its hips. Pretty grim stuff, but god it looks so cool!!

I fully planned to do a whole new Elden Ring run soon anyways so I’ll probably take whatever character I make now? Or whatever character I’m on by the time the DLC Drops because WHEWWWW

I'm pretty sure Messmer's voice actor is Blake Ritson, who also voiced Hawkwood the Deserter in Dark Souls III, Royal Sorcerer Navlaan in Dark Souls II and Griggs of Vinheim in Dark Souls.

The Nina-looking boss looks like those Chinese parade lions, especially with the two sets of teeth, I love when FromSoft incorporates elements from different mythologies as inspiration

OK I have a theory about the trailer, completely just pulling it outta my ass so take it with more than a grain of salt.
We know that Mohg has been feeding Miquella A LOT of his own blood, the blood that is also blessed/cursed by the Formless Mother (bloodflame comes from her). Maybe Miquella's dream (and Miquella himself) has been corrupted by the blood and Messmer is a conglomeration of Miquella's life in The Lands Between. He has the snake aesthetic of Rykard (even seems to have some appendages in his weapon like Rykard), he has the red hair of Radagon and his children and the bloodflame attacks he has are definitely related to Mohg or the Formless Mother. Actually, I think Miquella's experiences in The Lands Between have an effect on the entire Land of Shadow. The chimera creature that attacks the player has Omen horns and a face similar to Serosh and Maliketh, so another sort of a conglomeration? The DLC is in a sense inside Miquella's dream or a location that is heavily influenced by his dreams. Miquella is heavily connected to Sleep so this could fit.
Like I said, I pulled this whole thing out of my ass so most likely a lot of it is COMPLETELY wrong. But I'm almost certain that Mohg's blood feeding has something to do with the way the DLC and the villain are.
This is a fun idea! I think Messmer is like mesmerize/ kind of like a dream like state kind of vibe? Which could be why there's a LOT of amalgamation of things (like the wings on the snakes of Messmer's form) and the Omen horns on a LOT of stuff. UGH I'm just so excited to play and find out (and binge watch Vaati's lore videos)

I'm certain Messmer is a form of Miquella because of those lanky arms. Like c'mon, cocoon Miquella is the only character that I know with lanky arms that long

@@AshleyRoboto It probably is since Miquella is heavily inspired by Griffith who everyone saw as a saint until he sacrificed his humanity to transcend his form, cocooning himself. Very similar to Miquella, who some theorized, was taken by Mohg on purpose and instead of being captured, was involved in the ritual so he could escape his curse. So Messmer is the ritual child of Mohg and Miquella, yeah?

You don't need Varres questline to access Mohg? You only need it to access him early in the game (earlier than you should be there tbh) so??? LOL
You actually don't need to be online for it, there are npc invaders you can use.
Also, you don't need Varre to access Mohg. There's another route later in the game.

Disagree. It's a great game don't get me wrong but outside is world(art) it's nowhere near as good of an actual game as Elden Ring. I did love the trick weapons though. Too bad it's so short of a game
