Phenomenal review. I loved this movie, especially the oddball scenes like zombie Strange being the one to deliver the “your power was inside you all along” speech to Chavez.

Glad to hear you found it theater worthy, seeing it tonight. Watched the 1978 doctor strange a couple of nights ago, didn't know it existed

100% worth a trip to the theater for the big screen experience. Sam Raimi went all out on this one.

@@geekinwithJamesHancock great movie man. Best thing about it I think is that they didn't try to "ground" anything in reality.

So did that couple next to you get axed for talking? Great reviews as always & if the powers to be were smart they would take their cues & direction from you as the ultimate guide of all things Marvel

I agree with your general overview. However, for me, it fell flat in some areas where it could've (and should've) done better to male this not just something different but something really cult like.
But I was entertained, I liked the throwbacks from Raimi's Evil Dead films. The occult and violent scenes were great. It was a good introduction to America Chavez that didn't feel forced. I also like how Wang got to shine, and there are parallels to Wanda and Doctor Strange sadness and hidden darkness (or in the case of Wanda from the MCU main universe full blown out dark madness).
Now that you mention Blade, I hope we see some of these dark elements with the brutal elements from the comics and the movies with Wesley Snipes.

If you like it, James, after being so critical of the recent MCU output, then that seals the deal for me.

      @geekinwithJamesHancock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah, this one delivers. Raimi still has some serious chops after four decades of filmmaking.

I loved the film. I was hesitant checking it out because I had heard it was just meh. But it is original and interesting and the flick went in guns blazing. The Scarlet Witch was awesome and was totally channeling the Dark Phoenix. the last few MCU films were just ok so I was glad to see something different/unique. I live in Texas and love Alamo Drafthouse but I love to go to an art house film called the Texas Theater that was showing this flick in 35mm. It was nice hearing the clicking of the projector and looking at scratches. This was a bizarro double feature for me because afterwards they were playing Inland Empire. Whenever you are Dallas check out the movie theater. P.S. they were playing the 78 Doctor Strange in the sitting room/lobby.

Just got out of the Alamo Downtown. Really enjoyed it. Maybe the most Sam Raimi thing has to be his love of eye balls. 👁 Please Kevin Feige, give Sam Raimi reigns of Ghost Rider, Blade, & Werewolf by Night! ✊Elizabeth Olson doesn’t get enough credit for her acting chops. Bruce Campbell is still the king 👑

Would love to see Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell just go berserk with some of Marvel's supernatural titles from the 1970s. Would be the perfect fit. Looks like we just missed each other down at the Lower Manhattan Alamo. Such a cool theater.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was like the culmination of everything the great Sam Raimi has ever made.
As for the theatre experience, it’s definitely getting worse. The fanboys couldn’t help but shriek obnoxiously at every fan service moment (the Illuminati sequence was unbearable), when they weren’t gleefully whispering with each other throughout. If my kids weren’t there, I would’ve thrown something at them.
It’s such a shame, because that was a perfect popcorn flick. I’d go see if again but I can’t stand the thought of being in the sane room as those assholes.

This is one marvel film I can say I actually liked. There’s no in your face wokeness, not preachy at all, no America hating agenda, and the story actually makes sense with no major plot holes. I don’t know why it’s getting the hate that it’s getting.
In terms of wokeness if you’re gonna go woke then I would say this movie did woke right. Which is they don’t really preach at you, they just show you. This is acceptable to me.
Also people hating on the Illuminati scene, I would just say it’s a multiverse so why even sweat it? It’s not like they did this in the prime universe.
My only small gripe is that doctor strange seems to be de-powered a bit and the showdown did not really include him.
My big gripe is that they said you don’t really need to watch the shows to enjoy this movie and I would heavily disagree. One can say this is a continuation of Wanda vision and also what if is required viewing to fully enjoy and understand this movie. This is one thing I hate in all movies, requiring you to have prior knowledge of other shows and movies.
Other than that I really did enjoy this movie, much better than any other movie in phase 4.
Best segment for me is the Illuminati parts. I loved that so much. Got my heart pumping.
