I believe Orpheus' memories are messy from all the memories being erased and returned to him. Also, Orpheus doesn't claim his last name is "DeRoss", in fact, he has never claimed any last name unlike Alice her diary claims the 'DeRoss' name. Maybe, Orpheus wants to claim the mansion, distant himself from his traitorous parents, find out the truth behind the games and his past, regain he true memories or forget about them altogether.
I agree with him wanting to forget the past altogether. If we recall in ToR, there's always this Orphy's slogan "Don't look back". Many believe that means "don't look back into the past". But then, a question arises. If Orphy doesn't want to look back into the past, why did he do all the experiments? There's a strong theory that all he did was for Alice. He wanted Alice to forget her traumatic experience (this one is hinted at in the second anniversary package letter). So, he tried to create a drug that can erase someone's memory. As time goes, he also wants to create several drugs to play with someone's memory (hallucinating about something, rember the past, forget the past, and being put into a comatose) Alice, however, wants to face it all (her background PV said "face it and it will all be over"). Orphy doesn't want Alice to look back into the tragedy, because he is afraid Alice will find out about his involvement in the murder of her parents. But this, also, raises a question. If he wanted Alice to forget everything, why did he trigger her traumatic event several times? Even to the point of giving her "Hydra"? That's as far as I go rn, damn

Well, what I stated here is just a theory though, with several supporting proofs. Istg nothing's ever been a definitive answer in IDV lore. That's why the lore is so messed up and most of them are theories, and that's what makes it interesting
It could also be that he might've not lied, but rather had his memory jumbled up. The tragic murder of the DeRoss parents, then him and Alice being placed in orphanages(not given time to grieve) could've done a number to him(gaps in his memory/story), leading him to believe that HE is the son of the Deross and that they are his real parents. This could also explain why he doesn't recognize Alice(plus the fact that she's using her friend/colleague's name to go undercover). It could also be the influence of unconsciously being given doses of drugs, after all, AoM's game(final) is not Orphy's first time going through a death game.
Good point. That would make sense imo but I still think that Orpheus already realized that Alice is Alice. There are several hints leading to it. First, the dining table. Orpheus already knows Alice's favorite food, truffle cake (not her undercover favorite). If Orpheus doesn't realize that Alice is Alice, he might have just prepared another food. Second is the fact that he tried to target her since the kreiburg racecourse. Third, when he is about to tell his backstory, he holds Alice's favorite doll. If we remember clearly, young Alice always brings her dolls everywhere, including in AoM 1, when she plays in the dining room with Orpheus. Fourth, at the end of AoM 2, Alice received a postcard that is placed below her family photograph. If Orphy orchestrated this, he would've seen the photograph and knows right away that Alice is Alice, as well as recognizing the DeRoss family. In my opinion, Orphy might purposely bring up Alice's backstory in front of her. I still could not understand why he did that though.

In the Victorian Era, wealthy families (like the DeRoss family) would usually adopt and raise a child from another family if they didn’t have an heir. Alice is a woman, and thus was not allowed by law to inherit the DeRoss family’s wealth and title. So in short, Orpheus and Alice were supposed to grow up together and eventually marry one another when they became of age. But as you said, Orpheus was present BEFORE Alice was born so this plan may’ve been congregated after the birth of Alice.
Interesting theory. Considering Orpheus' talent in literature, that would be the case. But in a sense, wouldn't that make Orpheus' real parents proud? Like, why would they collaborate with the bandits if their child is guaranteed a nobility, wealth, and fortune?

Another very conspicuous detail is the fact that Melly only appeared after the game ended, meaning she was probably an accomplice in his murder as well.

It looks as if they wanted to gain trust faster, and who would immediately share such difficult stories to people they don't know very well. Maybe they will use each other in the final... And Melly, during the animation of time of reunion, she tried to "attack" Orpheus and Alice, maybe she really tried to hurt them since they knows the truth about her crime, or she really was telling the truth and wanted to help Alice in some way.

This would contradict his personality, which is described as "meticulous", and that he always records every insect he studied. Now, assuming the bee is a rare species that he didn't record, then someone who knows insects must have been involved in releasing the bee. In other words, it's a murder, with the bee as the weapon. Among the one closest to Joshua Plinius (the husband's name), only Melly has knowledge very well about the bee. That may include a rare, deadly bee species that can kill in one stung. So, after killing Joshua, Melly enjoyed her life without her abusive husband. Then, someone from the manor sent a package containing the invitation, as well as the bee species. This would make Melly shocked because someone out there knows that Melly murdered her husband. She then joined the game in order for her crime not to be exposed. Even with all of that, in the manor, she claimed that she came to the manor to investigate the mentioned rare bee species. As for Melly attacking Alice, I assume that during the final game, everyone perceives each other as hunters. So it's normal that they attack each other
