Unfortunately I have to agree with you, when I'm absolutely positive we would never agree on anything else. It's only not okay to make jokes about specific groups at specific times. It's fine to mock an Irishmen or Italian on the Simpsons, but if you are Asian, South Asian, or certain other groups it's a no go. The double standard absolutely sucks.

McFarland wasn't upset with the Simpsons. He was mad at the Fox executives who wouldn't let him have the joke. I know people who have worked on both shows in a very background capacity, and absolutely no one has ever said they hold any kind of ill will for either side.

There seems to be a trend online of people totally misunderstanding Homer’s Enemy. Grimes is obviously written to be uptight and annoying, basically the bad guy. We’re not supposed to take his side, or feel bad for him - he gets what’s coming for being a prig.
.... So it being a rape / family annihilation scene had nothing to do with the fact shouldn't be aired .. possibly insulting a 100 year old guy was the deciding factor.?

The first 10 seasons of the Simpsons is probably one of the best comedy sitcoms of all time.
I remember going to the Taupo Aeroplane McDonald’s in the late 80s, early 90s - pretty sure that was before that episode.
