    Inconsistencies regarding locations in Springfield make sense when you remember that there's a contingency plan to pick up the entire town and move it a few miles when they ruin the area, and we see them do this at least once. So it's possible that things aren't placed in the same relative locations when they settle on a new spot.

    The producers of the Simpsons have always talked about the elastic reality of the Simpsons. They have absurdly tinkered with time and space since early on. Age in the active present seems to be set, the main kids never graduate to the next grade, etc. "Plot holes" are just jokes via inconsistency and irony. They even call out these continuity discrepancies all the time.

    • @dsxa918
      @dsxa918 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a 'project' I was working on, with a fictional world as comparable to the Simpsons in having as many characters and events operating on a timeline. It took so many notes and notation, revision up to 'creative liberties' while forming it, to keep it along its storyline. It gave me a new appreciation for not holding it against fictional shows, the inconsistencies are a given if you don't plan with so much effort

  • @September2004

    There is one plothole that I had just noticed. In the Season 2 episode "Brush With Greatness" Marge had a major crush on Ringo Starr. It got to the point that she mailed his portrait she did of him to get his opinion on her artwork. At the time she was 17 or 18 years old in the year 1974. In the Season 6 episode "Fear Of Flying" we see a flashback of Marge at 5 or 6 years old in either 1966 or 1967 because she had a Monkees lunchbox and was made fun of for liking The Monkees! The mistake here is if Marge was 5 in 1966 she wouldn't have been in high school in 1974! She would've been 13 or 14 by then!

Early in the same episode we've seen Marge being the last to leave church, as her car wasn't starting, and it might have happened again the sunday the house burned. The episode with the demotivation plaque blocked by pictures of Maggie has two issues: Homer didnt have that security console until a few episodes in (he was a line worker initially), and in another episode, where Homer takes Lisa to work, it shows that there's a big electronic map of other nuclear plants in front of the console, not the plaque. Also, if the demotivational plaque was there, Lisa would’ve seen it and not be confused about where the pictures were.

    Yes, the "Simpsons Gene" supposedly only affecting the males in the family always irked me. • @job489
      @job489 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      And how about the episode revealing a crayon was lodged in Homer's brain? When it was removed, Homer became a genius and connected with Lisa. In the end, the crayon was lodged back in his brain after the whole town hated him. That also contradicted the "Simpsons" gene.

      The Simpson gene is just an excuse/ placebo to explain their dumb behavior.

    • @monstersociety3360
      @monstersociety3360 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It goes deeper than that: There's a fan theory that EVERY member of the Simpsons family is a low-key genius. Lisa, obviously, but for now let's focus on Homer - while Homer is definitely a dumbass, some fans will recall he's only like that because he had a purple crayon in shoved in his brain through his nose when he was super young in that one episode. In that same episode, Homer has the crayon removed & he immediately becomes a genius, then he has it put back in because Lisa liked it better when he was an idiot. Applying this part of the fan theory to the "Simpsons gene" explanation, that means stupidity isn't running in the family in a genetic way at all! Homer just has brain damage! As for the rest of the Simpsons family, well, it may be a good idea to look up the rest of the fan theory.

    Just to play devil's advocate, the first mention of the "beat generation" was in 1948. It's possible that Ned's parents weren't beatniks when he was born but they'd adopted the culture very early on, maybe even before the term had been created. A lot of the things associated with it came from the 1940s and maybe his parents were just jumping from one fad to the next and were early adopters of it. You're probably right honestly, seems like it's just a plot hole, if they didn't live in a major city when it was starting then the chance that they'd have been apart of it before at least the mid 1950s is pretty unlikely. I don't remember if it was said where Ned grew up at all, in the ink scene it looks like NYC or another major city but in the Simpson's universe, it could have been capital city or somewhere else too.
    Good job spotting a lot of these, especially the photo of Maggie on the wall before she was born was definitely a "blink and you'll miss it" detail!

    i never thought of the Simpsons having one continuous timeline where all events take place but that it takes place in a multiverse. like the episode where it's revealed that Skinner isn't the real Seymour Skinner. that episode and any other episode that mentions it takes place in it's own universe.

    I think point 9 - locations in Springfield has an in universe explanation, when Homer becomes boss of the garbage men and ends flooding the entire town in garbage causing all the residents to move, you can see them literally moving all the buildings on the back of wagons and none of them seem fazed by this at all, like they’ve done it many times before. So every time something disastrous happens they all relocate with the buildings giving Springfield a different layout from time to time

    The Herb thing can be explained easily. While yes, he is a Simpson, his mother Gaby may have a genetic that blocks Herb from getting the Simpson gene or in full at least. I mean.....he did let a brother he never knew design a car and caused his company and stock to plummet so.....in a sense that DOES seem like a very Simpson thing to happen.
    Or, like anything else on the list, the writers just forgot, or enough time has passed that it doesn't really matter because all long running shows have loopholes like this.

    4:17 has already been explained. It's not a plot hole it's the fact that they used the same background for ease. When this episode was released the aspect ratio was a lot smaller and on the original episode, you couldn't see the Maggie picture. When the aspect ratio widened, that's when it became visible. I saw a lot of people say it could have just been a baby picture of Lisa, which makes sense because when you see Lisa as a baby, she does look like Maggie, and since the Simpsons are supposedly "poor" or struggle to make ends meet sometimes, you can imagine Marge saved the outfit which Maggie wears now.

  • @ScarysReviews
    @ScarysReviews ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lisa's future is not a plot hole. Lisa was told her future, and we saw what it could be, and going through the years, events happened, situations changed. so, at that point in time, Maud and Edna were alive, and up to when Maud passed, and edna passed, that, changed the events, so the original vision would be different. also the maggie photo, whilst marge is pregnant, could be Lisa?. Herb is Homer's HALF brother, so... and or Abe is just losing it a bit, Homer's intelligence strengthens after the crayon is taken out, and has many moments of smarts. so, these arn't exactly plotholes watchmojo.

    6:30 Well I'd say it was a bad idea for herb to allow Homer to take charge of building a new car. That showed Well maybe not a lack of intelligence but a lack of vision for sure. But to go along with how contradictory what Abe Simpson said about the Simpsons gene, it's been proven that Homer Simpson is in fact incredibly intelligent. I think the episode came out a few years later but it was proven that the reason why Homer Simpson is so dumb is because he accidentally stuck a crayon in his brain when he was a child but then when that crayon was removed from his brain he ended up being incredibly intelligent
