      Even the manual on these says to let it warm up. Everyone that says it won’t tune prolly aren’t waiting for it to warm up. An hour might be a big much, but the 10 mins the manual says isn’t enuff either.

    Let it shine again, this is a very cool, Kraftwerkish synth. I got mine de-dusted on Sunday too. It took me 3 hours getting rid of the plastcized sticky glue from knobs, sliders and the side panels.
    Concentrated orange liquid cleaner is great for this job. You need to wear a mask and hankerchiefs, as the cleaner is aggressive. But it works well and doesn't destroy the material. Detach the knobs before cleaning.
    It was worth it. It's like new and I re-discovered how fat it sounds.
    Enjoy 🎉

    • @BOOelectric
      @BOOelectric  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your cleaner sounds like it works like a charm... Thank you for the advice! Is it actually called concentrated orange liquid cleaner? Does your synth now smell of orange? Bonus!!

      @@BOOelectricsmell vanished fast. 😁 It's a high concentration liquid cleaner from the company "prowin". But I now see videos from people who did clean their sticky MiniBrute with other stuff too and it didn't take do long either.

      The Isopropyl alcohol solution doesn't look too nice on the side panels. But maybe his already have been a bit worn down before? I also think the issue might come back some day. I found a company which made wood panels for the Minibrute, but they are all sold out. I don't know if they are still in business. 😅

    I've noticed some kinds of silicone get all greasy and weird if you don't touch them for even a few months!
    Weirdly enough regular use can help it stay away. I've noticed some people use mineral oil or olive oil to reconstitute these degraded plastics when they're really really bad, so I think our skin oils probably help it stay together in regular use.
    Silicone 20 years ago never seemed to do that, it took at least a few years packed away to get even a little odd, so I wonder if it's been cheapened out to the point where it's just barely stable. Even some of my often-used silicone cooking spoons can get weird and degraded and dusty and greasy and sticky like that on the parts of the handle I don't touch very often. And the dishwasher is only so-so at removing that residue (not that I'd advise sticking the synth in the dishwasher! But maybe just the end caps and knobs...)
    Anyway, as to the synth itself. I've never been much of a fan of the Steiner-Parker filter, for me it took the instability of the MS-20 filter way too far. The sweet spots seem really small and the ugly gnarly ones so big. I'm sure that's great for certain kinds of music though.
    I definitely related too hard to not bothering to unpack a synth to use it. It's even worse than some kitchen gadgets, where at least you only need to plug those into power! But adding speakers or headphones, finding a spot in your interface or mixing desk, can be a real hassle.
    Very nice demos as usual though, despite this synth not scratching my musical itch like a lot of the others you've showcased do.
    The sequencer mod is quite cool too, I have a hard time imagining all that function was defined in a dozen-ish bytes so I wouldn't be surprised if that sysex message just unlocks functionality Arturia put in there all along. Maybe with the original intent to have a sequencer/arpeggiator switch. (I bet the dual legends would look too messy and maybe that's why it was hidden away.)

    • @BOOelectric
      @BOOelectric  ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally get that the filter is a bit Marmite... I know plenty of people who feel the same, and to be fair, it really is a bit out of control... You can make it sing sweetly, but yeah, it's a screamer by default! The Malevolent's the same, maybe even more so... I'm glad they're here though... I find plenty of situations where I need that particular screamy stuff.

    I just ordered a Minibrute 2s from reverb. I decided on it based on it being an original not cloned analog affordable design, but having a sequencer that I can patch into my model d and any future gear with cv Ins is super useful.
    I love the tones you're getting out of the original, so I'm not regretting my decision at all... Even tho I strive for music that sounds smooth for lack of a better word, I find edgy distressed sounds like you're getting here to be necessary to keep things from turning to mush.

    • @BOOelectric
      @BOOelectric  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lovely! I'm hoping to have a Minibrute 2 keyboard version to do a demo with soon. It's quite different from the first one, but has a lot of great changes and improvements, though with a different character to the first one. The 2s, would be an excellent sequencing addition to the Model D, plus all the idiosyncratic Arturia filtering pleasantness. If you feel so inclined, please share what you make on our Discord at bit.ly/boodiscord

      @BOOelectric their virtual synths are amazing, as is the microfreak. I'm a singer & drummer by trade (in 2 different bands, and not at the same time) and nothing gives me new song inspirations like Arturia. Just scrolling thru presets is a treasure trove of ideas.

    Man thats the same thing that happened to me. I got a Beatstep and a SparkLE brand new, i used them a few times then packed them away and i did not use them for several months. When i unpacked them both all the knobs were ruined because the coating has kind of melted? and stuck to the inside of the products plastic bag. Now the knobs all look like the have eczema.

    The sticky plastic is annoying but you can remove the ‘fudge’ with some Olbas oil and kitchen towel. It takes a bit of time, but you get lovely shiny knobs after wards. Not sure why manufacturers put that soft touch coating on things knowing that it decays and leaves everything funky
