CHANGES IN USA VISA AND HOW THIS WILL AFFECT YOUR STUDENT VISA CHANCE?

Mr. Donald L Heflin, Minister-Counselor for Counselor Affairs at the US Embassy in Delhi in an interview to The Times of India mentioned about changes in visa appointment system and I am going to discuss the same in this video and how this will affect your USA Student Visa chance.
As per the news, the delay in getting the Student Visa Appointment Date is due to the system crash that happened because a large number of Indian students were trying to book visa appointment slots during pandemic. This has made the USA Embassy to bring some changes in the software to make visa appointment slots available to maximum good students. These changes will affect student visa chances, so what are these changes?
The new changes will make it difficult for students to book visa appointment slots for FALL 2022 intake if you have been earlier denied USA Student Visa for Spring 2022 or for Summer 2022 intake
This will affect a lot of good students who were denied student visa in 2022. Many of these students have been visa denied for the first time.
The USA visa interview is not a full-proof method to identify whether a student is a genuine or a potential immigrant and there are good chances of visa officers making mistakes. It will be sad that these good students will have to suffer now because of visa officer mistake.
The other problem these students will have to face due to these new changes is that they will now have to defer their admission to Spring 2023 and will have to apply for visa appointment slots accordingly.
1. What is the guarantee that these students will get visa appointment slots in Spring 2023 as they will have to compete with the first-time students applying for the same intake. I hope there I no differentiation in the future and all students get visa appointment slots.
However, one thing is clear, these changes will make good students who have been refused earlier lose their precious year. I hope the USA Consulate will think on this as well.
2. Students who were denied in 2022 will now have to book visa appointment slots for January 2023 intake. These students will have to answer on the education gap?
What can a student do to fill this one-year gap that has been created due to the non-availability of visa appointment slots?
If suppose the student is applying for a Bachelors program after 12th grade the only probable option that these students will have is to join the local college and complete first year of Bachelors. What will happen than?
The visa officer may in such scenario will advise student to complete their bachelors in the local college and then apply for Masters program in USA. So, student need to really think how they are going to invest this one-year gap that has been created due to this situation.
How fair will it be on such student who have been denied to face such a trial?
Personally, I believe that this new changes in visa rules have make it more difficult for students who have been refused earlier to get USA Student Visa again.
Not everything is not bad and there is good news as well. The good news is
- New students who are applying for the first time will be able to get visa appointment slots for FALL 2022 intake
- This is good news as there will be good number of students who had applied for Spring 2022 or Summer 2022 but have not been lucky to get visa appointment slots due to pandemic. They will now be able to get student visa appointment slots for FALL 2022 intake.
- Further, new students who are applying for first time for FALL 2022 will be able to get dates and will not have to face the struggle that the earlier batch did.
- So the new rules should help those students who have earlier USA any visa or to students who are applying for the first time.
Students with earlier USA visa and no previous refusal
- May be eligible for an interview waiver under drop box scheme.
- Similarly, parents of students whose has earlier visa can go with their wards to drop them to university this time. During pandemic these parents could not go.
- But those parents who do not have visa will have to wait till Sept 2022 to book new visa appointment slots.
- As per Mr. Heflin, things should get normal by January 2023 and I hope to believe that these changes are only for short term to make visa appointment slots available for maximum good students.
There is also good news for people who have been waiting to go to USA on Visit Visa. The B1/B2 slots may be available from September 2022 onwards and they will be able to book the visa appointment slot soon.
