I like the restored version better! The graphics and plot are MUCH improved. The only thing I might have a beef with is the monks reasons for not reporting the bathhouse owner. It just seems flimsy, and he only gets the courage to fistfight ( I laughed a little at that) the bad guy AFTER MC does all the haunting/ terror heavy lifting.

I kinda like both, it’s reminiscent, to me at least, of a story passed down, and the real events. Like the first game is how the story got told, years after the facts, and the remake is the truth behind it, with more information, and tidbits that got dropped or forgot as time past
I rewatched a playthrough of this game recently because I just needed some background noise and I remember this game being spooky. But the story seemed so different this time that I thought it was a different game that I watched all those years ago! Thanks for this explained video!

I was always annoyed that the "creepy guy" was just a red herring, and that good ending was so sweet. They rarely have good endings, so I was pleasantly surprised. I wonder if their other games are getting remakes with adjusted stories so we can get a good ending?
The OG game having a game breaking bug even the devs couldn't fix, so they just remade the whole thing with better graphics and a better story is a boss move. Respect to Chilla's, they really progressed over the years.

Although I think you leaving out that the ubume's and monk's son being found chained down in a cellar for probably most of his life at the end of the original, and his role in the endings, were big differences to not mention lol.
