- Ganon is far from the only villain that plagues "The Legend of Zelda." For this list, we’ll be looking at each villain’s motivations and their impact on the worlds in their respective games. We’re only looking at central villains from the main entries, no spin-offs. We’ll be talking about some heavy spoilers ahead, so beware. Our list includes Ghirahim from "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" (2011), Veran from "The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages" (2001), Yuga from "The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds" (2013), and more! Which villain left the biggest impression on you? Let us know in the comments.

Majora is the most interesting in my opinion. Ganon is iconic, but Majora’s Mask is a great game in so many ways

Ghirahim is slept on so hard as villain. His progression throughout the game as this demon lord who is like, less than concerned with Link until he keeps getting his ass kicked and gets progressively more and more irritated until he realizes that this is no ordinary mortal is very good and fun to watch. He probably has the most personality of any villain in the series.

So happy too see Majora Mask in the number one spot. After I saw Gannon in the second spot and that you haven't mentioned Demise, I thought he might be your number one pick. But yeah Majora is definitely the better villain surprised that Demise didn't make the list, however I do understand that he is technically Ganon.
Demise sucks, he's a dull "I'm pure evil lol" bland character and looks entirely like an Akuma rip off.
All forms of Ganon are more appealing.

And a demon with red hair - Ganon has red hair - Ganon seemingly somehow is the only male born from a race of only females?!? It all sounds to me that Ganon is Demise, just incarnated in human form. Unless Demise is stuck in the Master sword, the better see him again here in Tears of the Kingdom!!

Demise is my favorite Villain because he is the origen of all evil, a creature that is even feared by Gods
For what little time Demise is on screen, he made a hell of an impression for me.
I’d argue that the nightmares in Link’s Awakening play a *massive* role in the story… they’re just only a collective verses a singular main Big Bad. That, and whether the nightmares or Link is the main villain is…extremely debatable.
The nightmares literally beg Link to *not* wake the Windfish or the island will be destroyed (and everyone on it.) Arguably events like Tarin becoming temporarily cursed as a tanuki, Bowwow getting stolen, and Richard’s servants staging a coup (mind you we only find darknuts) are all related to the nightmares trying to stop or stall Link. Many of the bosses are outright terrified. Stronger bosses try reasoning with Link before their fights and then after with their dying breaths. Then finally the strongest nightmare/final boss puts Marin in Time Out where Link will find her as a final warning to Link because Marin nearly woke the windfish (without the siren instruments, even!) (which after that event Marin never sings again. Her innocence is effectively lost-no doubt the nightmare scolded her for good measure.)
And Link…wakes the windfish, anyway.
At the end the nightmares say that they would rule the island (if Link didn't kill them), so that doesn't sound innocent. On the other hand, the island's monsters started to grow in number after Link's arrival. That means Link was indeed a physical threat, and after he was found ashore and only then, the village started being in danger, because Link could wake the wind fish up, and destroy this dream world... To be honest, I have finished the game in the past, and after every boss battle, I kinda felt bad for them... They were really afraid, they were begging Link to stop, to not wake the wind fish. But I think that overall the nightmares wouldn't be the kindest to the villagers (human or not😉). In fact they where the ones that put wind fish to sleep, so it was their fault after all....

We really don’t have any indication that they would’ve been unkind. Sure they effectively staged a coup by sealing the Windfish away into an Endless Sleep, and did so because *the island would literally be destroyed.*
This is no different from what the sages/spiritual maidens do with Ganon.
They also effectively *have* been the Rulers. There was no “would’ve been” in the sense of “future to come.” It’s a “would have continued to do so.” And the villagers weren’t unhappy. Things only got tense after Link washed ashore after getting dragged into the Windfish’s Dream…by the Windfish. The Owl’s literally Agahnim in this scenario.
There’s no difference between the Nightmares and the Hyrulian Royal Family. (And the Nightmares are a great deal kinder than the Hylian Kings *ever* were. Just ask the Gerudo, Sheikah/Yiga, Twili, Zora (both tribes), and Gorons. They’re forced to be subservient without any benefit, or banished to ghettos, or outright massacred if they *dare* try to rise up or retaliate.)
@@anonymousfellow8879Actually the owl was the manifestation of the wind fish's subconscious, so in a way the wind fish wanted to wake up. Plus at the end Marin transformed into a seagull as she always wanted to, so at least for her she finally managed to exist in the real world....

Of course it was the Windfish’s Subconscious-that’s *literally* why I compared it to Agahnim. Agahnim = Ganon.
And the fact remained that the Windfish was a *god* that created *entire dimensions and worlds* parallel to Hyrule’s every time it dreamed. And the inhabitants wanted to *live.*
Wish of a god that used its power on a whim verses the lives of everything it created? It’s a no brainer.

Marin didn’t wish to be a *literal seagull.* She wished to fly LIKE a gull-her real wish was to see more of the world, experience new things, travel as a singer. The Windfish is what took it literal in the *WORST* Blue&Orange Fae Logic *ever.*
And that’s literally the intent-in the original B&W? Marin’s wish is actually answered-she’s seen singing as herself with wings. But in DX and Switch? She’s a gull. And it’s not her singing-it’s the Windfish. Her song follows the windfish but cuts out the second the Gull is revealed to be her, with her stuck Cawing
But, doesn´t that make him technically an anti-heroe? Which in my opinion is much better
Shoutout to Nightmare from Link's Awakening, btw! The game isn't overt about it, but all the bosses are meant to be extensions of the final boss, so the player is unknowingly fighting the main villain through the entire game. I wouldn't have put it high on the list, but Nightmare's whole goal is to stop Link from waking the Wind Fish, which would destroy it. Makes it so that Nightmare's motivation is it's own fear of ceasing to exist, which I think is pretty compelling.
My take is that the nightmares are individual yet collective. And yeah, a lot of them plead with Link to *stop*, try to stall his progress with various events very early on, with weaker nightmares being either beasts or actively hiding from Link (the genie’s bottle, slime eyes.) They simply want to survive, and “wanting to rule or not” the nightmares, monsters, villagers, and animals all coexisted peacefully until Link was dragged into the Dream Dimension. Link can even meet NPC monsters who choose to remain neutral…but are terrified that Link will murder them. (He actually can murder Zora.)
Ghirahim wins in my book.
He calls Link a soft boy. Never before has there been a more accurate description of Skyward Link.

I appreciate Ghirahim getting a spotlight, but not putting Demise feels weird. Ghirahim’s master, who directly tells the player that Link is the first human to not cower in fear at his prescience, and his battle and main themes are both stunning. Oh, by the way, did I mention that he almost drove the Hylian race to extinction?

If you’ve played MM, then you’ll never forget the first time Link uses a transformation mask, the look on the moon’s face, the game music getting faster, or the happy mask salesman being… creepy, yet comforting or facing the game’s final boss after like 20 minutes. Now I’ve learned that the game could represent the stages of grief. A life lesson disguised as a nightmare. Maybe this game is the dream that Link has when oot starts and Navi wakes Link up! The story would support it too since Link could have realized he’s not a kokiri and he would be grieving his parents. The only way he could go on his oot quest was to conquer his grief

I remember being like 10 when for the first time I managed to help all the Giants and summoning them on the clock tower for the first time, where Majora just sort of...disposes of Skull Kid and starts floating on its own, learning that it’s actually its own conscious, sentient being......scared the absolute hell out of me

Chancellor Cole was literally sooo good, it’s just a shame that spirit track controls suck, i really hope they remaster that game
Majora will always be my favorite due to how simple yet disturbing he is as a character. His sole purpose for being evil is that he just enjoys toying with the emotions and torturing people who he dwindles in power both physically and mentally, he is literally evil just for the sake of being evil. He’s also a really good manipulator, the best example being him using Skull Kids fragile naive child emotions to trick him into putting on the Mask which gave Majora a puppet to control. He’s also got a massive ego, I mean the first 2 phases of his boss fight is literally him just fucking with you. he’s ALSO a really smart foe, he knows exactly who and what he needs to do to ensure he doesn’t get stopped in his plans. As soon as he gains control of Skull Kid he immediately trapped the 4 giants of Termina into masks, and then forced those masks onto insanely powerful, massive, blood thirsty warriors. And given that the only canon ending of Majora’s Mask is Link getting all 24 masks and using the Fierce Deity’s Mask (keep in mind a mask given to him by Majora solely because Majora thought he was so powerful that he gave his only opponent the power to become the only thing that’s strong enough to kill himself which is another great example of his ego) to kill Majora, that means Majora was stronger than child Link in Majora, canonically had Majora not given Link the ability of the Fierce Deity, Link would’ve 100% died in the fight within the Moon, resulting in the ultimate annihilation of Termina, and entire world destroyed.

The Majora's mask, Zant, and Girrahim (I don't think I spelled it right, someone correct me), are all of my favorite villains. My favorite version of Ganondorf is probably Twilight Princess. I don't why I kept thinking #1 one was gonna be Demise (because that's literally the first Ganon), I just somehow forgot about the Majora's mask. But yes, The Legend of Zelda villains are awesome.

I won't lie, But seeing ol' Majora placed in the #1 spot in this video made me feel absolutely giddy. I always valued the mask as a final boss better than the OOT! Version of Ganondorf, and for some reason, the mask's design never creeped me out to look at than the latter did. But still, it's awesome to see see M-J wind up at the top because of it's chaotic nature, you go buddy!

I was wondering if you'd acknowledge Triforce Heroes Lady Maud. And glad you left out Hilda and Byrne whom are more anti heroes. Surprised you didn't bring up Agahnim, Twinrova or Demise in these rankings. Though I guess Demise is not just Ganons origin, he's the origin of all the villains. Still Zelda has quite the rogues gallery.

Majora being number 1 made this video 10/10. No one else has caused such a world wide consequence like Majora and without even wanting anything out of it. Best villain.
I wish I spent more time with Zelda games. I've played Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword but never beat them. I started with A Link to the Past back as a child in the 90s and I have beaten that game a few times. I also played the original Link's Awakening on Game Boy, not the DX version for Game Boy Color, but somehow I just kept getting stuck on Link's Awakening and not progressing past the first few dungeons. I have completed Ocarina of Time well after it was released. I completed A Link Between Worlds back when it was new. I also completed Four Swords Adventure, but that is a totally different Zelda game that has actual levels instead so of course if I played that, I beat it.
I played the original Zelda a little bit, but didn't get far in it. I think being used to how A Link to the Past controls made the original Zelda really difficult for me. I played a little of Zelda 2 and from what I've seen the game is good, but I've just never enjoyed it. I still have yet to play Breath of the Wild. I intend to play the Wii U version to not take up space on my Switch. But anyway in that first paragraph I pointed out that I only beat a few Zelda games.
Oh yeah I also played Phantom Hourglass when it was new and I highly enjoyed it but never finished it. Much later I played the HD remake of Windwaker on Wii U, but didn't get far. And I just barely played Majora's Mask. For whatever reason I've noticed that either I play Zelda nonstop or if I do stop playing the game, I just can't get back into playing it. I find myself to be really great at combat, but not so good at looking for things.
Link's Awakening's boss (the nightmares) have a major impact on the story!!! How could they not include them? They caused the sleep of the wind fish, they "created" Koholint island, because of the dreaming...
They aren't included because they are the least memorable villain ever

I like Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Ganondorf is a newcomer character in Super Smash Bros Melee along with Bowser, Dr. Mario, Falco, Ice Climbers, Marth, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch, Peach, Pichu, Roy, Young Link and Zelda/Sheik. Ganondorf is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros Melee along with Dr. Mario, Falco, Jigglypuff, Luigi, Marth, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch Pichu, Roy and Young Link. Ganondorf and Young Link are unlockable characters while Link and Zelda/Sheik are starter characters in Super Smash Bros Melee.

I knew either Ganon or Majora would be #1. But shouldn't you have included Demise? He IS a separate entity than Ganon/Ganondorf, as Ganon is a physical manifestation of Demise's rage and hate, not Demise himself.
Ok I can understand not mentioning zelda 2, BUT links Awakening the Nightmares play a massive role in the game, if it wasn't for them the wind fish wouldn't be trapped in his own mind, WHICH forced link to be trapped in there as well. Plus the wind fish bones were believed to have appeared in Breath of the wild.
I created a third Dark Flame: the Flame of Despair, Zetsubõ. He's a Shiki, or Corpse Demon, and can levitate and use Dark Magic Attacks; he can only be damaged by Link's Sword or the Fire Rod, referencing how Corpse Demons can only be slain by piercing their heart or by burning them.

I like Majora's Mask in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Majora's Mask evolves into Majora's Incarnation and Majora's Mask evolves into Majora's Wrath.

I dunno man, Ganon is truly _the_ iconic Zelda villain, but he's also pretty shallow and standard most of the time. He's a much more thoughtful and interesting character in Wind Waker, but in every other game he's a pretty regular cliche villain, much like Demise. I guess BOTW does give Ganon a more interesting spin, though.
Crazy to think that vatti and dark link are the only main villains that made more than one appearance (other than you know who)

Majora's Mask really tends to always stand as the most iconic of all Zelda games, it seems. No idea why. That whole game was a collection of side quests. Even though I enjoyed the game, my least favorite aspect of Zelda games have been "the world is in peril...but first can you do me a favor..." and its some ridiculous thing like collecting pumpkins in some guys garden. While the world is in peril lol. Majora's Mask was an entire game that was...that

He’s pretty cool, putting him below master kohga is criminal in my opinion but I also think all the other villains above him were just far better.
Phantom Hourglass was my first video game, and there’s some theories that make bellum potentially a lot scarier than he seems but in the game he’s kind of a let down, though it’s clear he’s sentient and has malicious intent.
Veran over Onox is a crime.

Definitely one of the lists I agree with more, the only two things wrong though is that I think this list is missing Demise... very important, and I would put Majora after Ganon/Ganondorf. My personal ranking of the top 6 would go
1. Ganon/Ganondorf
2. Majora
3. Ghirahim
4. Vaati
5. Demise
6. Zant
technically, Ganondorf/Ganon is a reincarnation of Demise so he wouldn't really count separately....
I feel like demise should have been up there . Yes, he only appears at the end of the game, but he started the curse. The one where link will always have to fight another evil, alongside Zelda
also the fact that he aknowledged links strength & offered him to a 1 v 1 duel to the death as the final showdown
I personally hate Demises concept because it makes Ganon seem like a fake villain
I think Ganondorf feels like an actual threatening villain, especially in Ocarina of Time. Like he is the embodiment of evil and has a whole Dracula vibe while also being a brick shit house. He is willing to make the conscious decision to kill or enslave everybody. Unlike Ganondorf, Majora is like some pure form of chaos and insanity, something almost oblivious or at least indifferent to the concept of life and death or good and evil.

The reason it takes the form of a child in the tree vision is bc link looks like a child and the mask(zant) wants to trick and gain sympathy (I also think zant may be the entity sealed inside the dark statue in botw-sealed inside some time after escaping the mask)
I believe Majora should make a comeback in the Zelda lore, as a being of pure chaos that not even Ganon can control, i mean think about it, Majoras would wipe the floor if not consume Ganon, it took the power of a “Fierce Deity” and 4 “celestial” Guardians to even stand a chance. Not to mention Majoras so evil, its doesnt even want for anything, just pure chaos and death. Majora basically went like “Fu- the triforce” ill do it myself.
