One of the biggest if not the biggest Macedonian Heroes. I'm not sure if anyone of you know the faith of Marko Boshjnakov. After the attacks, he got arrested along with Pavel Shatev, Milan Arsov & Gjorgji Bogdanov. They were sentenced to death penalty, but the decision was changed to prison in Fezan (Africa). Marko died there, but Pavel and his friends, didn't want to leave him there, so they decided to cut off his head and bring it back to Macedonia. He was born in Ohrid, therefore they brought his head (that they kept it in salt water), back to his hometown. The last known information is that his head was buried near the small church Kuzman and Damjan, right behind the monumental Bogorodica Perivlepta. If you walk in the old town of Ohrid, I'm sure you'd find the table on the wall that marks the house in which he was born. Hope God will forgive their sins and bless their families! This is one of the biggest sacrifices for freedom of Macedonia.

    Perfect timing, Mario!
By coincidence, I’m two thirds of the way through a book called ‘Mara’ by an outstanding Macedonian American, Stoyan Christowe (also Hristoff) - nee Naumoff. Although a novel, it depicts the events you speak about, through the eyes of the hero, Paul. The book helped me understand much more clearly, how and why the comitadji formed to drive out the Ottomans and even mentions the ‘Boatmen’, the tunnel and the plans to blow up the Ottoman Bank in Solun. The book also gives us glimpses of the hardships of village life under Ottoman rule and the sufferings of the women. One cannot help but fall in love with the young hero who could have been any one of these brave young men you talk about.

    • @mellake7052
      @mellake7052 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Stoyan, born 1898, became a journalist, writer and American senator (Vermont) and was simultaneously a passionate Macedonian and American, receiving an honorary doctorate from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje in the Republic of Macedonia and was elected an honorary member of the Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is well-known for his famous quotation, “In my life I had two mothers, Macedonia who gave me birth, and America who adopted me.”
With the strong spirit of the young men in your video, Stoyan left his home at the tender age of 13 to seek his fortune but always had a wondrous fascination and admiration for the young comitadji and the heroes that they looked up to such as Goce Delchev. I feel there is a lot of Stoyan in the book’s main character, Paul.
Stoyan was born in a region of Macedonia which is very dear to my heart. I’m trying to collect all his books and next on my list is ‘Heroes and Assassins’.

By chance I have a book from Ivan Popjordanov, his grandgrandfather Peter ( Petyr) was brother of Gjoshe ( Гьоше) Popjordanov, which is the father of Milan ( Mile ) and Orce. Peter Popjordanov had four sons: Ivan, Ilija, Grigo and Kiro. So the author of the book- Ivan Popjordanov was the grandson from Ivan Popjordanov.
His grandfather- дядо Иван was the cousin of Mile and Orce.
In his book Ivan Popjordanov writes clear and outlines that the whole family- his father- Petar, his grandfather Ivan, his Grandmother Elena Proycheva, they were all proud Bulgarians. Our history is shared and there is nothing you can do about it.We used to be one!

There were also educated people, merchants, craftsman etc. in it.
      All sorts of people.
In many macedonian towns there were also some craft associations, which were called bulgarian, not from some outside spectators but by the people that were members of this communities, so what you say make no sense really.
The statement that in the 19 century there was simply no selfidentification or feeling in the ethnical sence among the people in Macedonia is plain false.

@@dilyandaynovski Wikipedia? That “wonderful source of half-truths and blatant lies” - as described by award-winning Professor Curta? Surely you jest? Wikipedia is the last place any educated person would look. In fact, many schools will not accept Wikipedia quotations from their students and universities would be astounded.
All bordering nations have shared histories. Even nations on opposites sides of the world can have shared histories (and many do). We have shared history with Greece, too, to this very day. Doesn’t make us Greek. (Some) shared history = moot point.
No-one is denying you the right to identify as Bulgarian. Obviously, after exposure to the Exarchate, many Macedonians converted when the Bulgarian nation was created (by Russia) or leading up to its creation. The point is many more did NOT convert and remained Macedonian, and most (who survived Greek and Bulgarian massacres) still do to this very day, albeit a considerable number have since converted and become Greeks. Such is life. Some Macedonians are now Bulgarian, some are now Greek, no doubt, a small number are now Serbian, but the majority have remained Macedonian and nothing else.
Enjoy being Bulgarian but you can’t force others to take the road you (your recent ancestors) did - shared history or no shared history.
All nations are new and the *ethnic* definition of “Bulgarian” is new. Until comparatively recently, it simply meant a Slav-speaking Christian peasant who attached to the Exarchate rather than the Patriarchate.
Christian Albanians, for example, were called Greeks simply because they attached to the Patriarchate, as were Vlachs and some Macedonians and many others. Privately, they were not Greek - only politically. People identified by religion. If your great grandparents’ abandoned being Macedonians after the intense influence of the Bulgarian church, good for you. You are free to be Bulgarian.
I comprehended very well what you wrote, despite the inaccuracies. The evidence is overwhelming that prior to the creation of the Bulgarian nation, the term “Bulgarian” was an umbrella term which referred to many different Slavic-speaking Christians. Much like the term "Romioi" referred to many different ethnic groups during the Roman Empire and Byzantium. Even some of your own historians have written about it.
You are the one who did not comprehend the definition of *Bulgarian* in your ancestors’ time so perhaps the following intensely-researched academic findings might be more clear and can enlighten you. Not holding my breath though…

On October 19, 2018, the Bulgarian speaking Slavs of the former communist enclave consisting of Albanians, Bulgarians, Roma Gypsies, Aromanians, Catholicized Albanians aka “Croatians” and Turks called the #FYROV who’s Central Asian ancestors collectively began a seemingly endless campaign of invading Europe in/around the 6th or 7th Century AD thus bringing about the collapse of the Western Roman Empire with their innate barbarism who have no connection to Greece or the rest of Europe which the Greeks founded and named Europe after the Cretan princess Europe finally abided by the deal they signed requiring that they stop appropriating Greek history, symbols and territory, rename their enclave after a geographical region and refer to an asterisk accompanied by a footnote when stating their identity and language and re embrace their Asiatic heritage.
The enclave will be re named North Macedonia and just as the country of East Timor has absolutely nothing to with Timor, North Macedonia will have nothing to do with Macedonia.
Just like South Sudan has no relation to the Sudan, the enclave of North Macedonia will have no connection to Macedonia.
Just as the Republic of Georgia has nothing to do with the US State of Georgia, the Slavo-Bulgar-Albano-Roma former communist enclave of North Macedonia has nothing to do with Macedonia.
