Bro, you really gotta give Pokémon Sleep a second chance! It's WAY less complicated than it sounds. You just put the phone next to you, sleep, and in the morning you catch a few mons. That's about it. It's extremely enjoyable.
@@shllybkwrm in addition to using the pokemon go plus + as an option, they've added smart watch support so you can also track via that instead of leaving your phone screen on. Oh I'm early, so just wanted to tell you how much your videos are good for me, they're just chill and relaxed, even visually, but never boring or irrelevant. As someone that needed to slow down, thank you so much! Keep up the awesome work!
So for Pokémon Live and Arena, both games actually heavily discourage amassing a huge collection. The main PVP modes draw from a rotating collection of the most recent sets, so even if you start today, you’re never more than a year or so behind someone who’s been playing the whole time. Magic also has Draft and Limited formats that will help you build a collection and keep you on an even playing field until you’re ready to move on, and is very generous with packs and crafting materials.
See, I personally could barely get into Pokémon GO. I was in a residential area with not a lot of variety or poke stops nearby. I would see so many screenshots of people in big cities or market areas, with countless poke stops. It was always a huge inconvenience to go out of my way, to find a location with farmable poke stops. I was only ever to do it a handful of times. TCGP is amazing, I haven’t spent a dime and I’ve already acquired some really strong cards. All in the comfort of my home.
FYI pokemon TCG Live gives you what they think are the best decks/cards (from recent tournaments), you will have trouble amassing a large collection like you mentioned but you shouldnt have any issues getting cards to play a meta relevant deck at the start. Also there's ZERO micro transactions, they dont even let you buy cosmetics which is refreshing
I was obsessed with the Pokemon TCG on the Gameboy, played it so many times. I was hoping for another TCG game on every new Nintendo console, and I'm glad I finally got one even if it's simplified and on the phone
You hit this right in the nose. Recently I've wanted to start playing the TCG, but it's just too overwhelming and I feel like I just can't get good enough fast enough, pocket removes all of this.
I dont play the TCG but I love the pocket version. But that had me thinking. Could TCG player mimic this playstyle by removing the energy card from their decks and making a new zone where they could have a 40-60 energy deck to place, that they pull from right after they draw from the normal deck. I dont know how that would playout but if someone could try and do that and tell me how the feel of the game would be that be nice.
Leaks about Lumiose city in ZA seem wild, if any of those come to be true Z-A is gunna be a fantastic game. (Also it's pronounced like Grandiose. Lu-mee-os) I also second giving sleep another chance, you can use your smartwatch to track so you don't need to leave your phone on, and if you approach it casually as just seeing some new little dudes every morning and catching some once in a while its a great game. I've played since launch and just feel happy seeing my little buddies every morning.
If I complete the quests daily and do a few battles, I get enough hourglasses to open 10 packs once a week or so. It will prolly slow down but you can do it many times by then if you don't use them to rush single packs
I'm really enjoying the game so far. Honestly not that big of a Pokemon player so this has been a real surprise that I'm playing this pretty much every moment I can haha just downloaded it to see what the hype was about and now I'm genuinely hooked..
I’m in love with the game but I’m at a point where I’m only doing events and opening packs and there’s nothing to motivate me to keep playing otherwise. It’s need a compelling rank mode with exclusive rewards
Its been a lot of fun. Theres not a ton of content yet but its kept me busy. I dont look up meta decks and exploits because 1) i think its just lame and not very fun and 2) its stretching out the content some by building fun jank. I was looking for a game with a little bit of strategy but quicker than MTG. The card art is cool and opening packs gets addicting.
As someone who enjoys the world of pokemon but not so much the games anymore, the solo battles are kinda refreshing. Being limited to the cards you're given adds a challenging edge that has made me actually have to sit and think about my strategy. For once I actually hope that we're drip fed cards very slowly, because once they drop Unova packs my bank account might be cooked.
I think this year of MTG arena has been particularly approachable, there's a new core set coming in a few days that seems like the perfect onramp if you want another shot at the original TCG.
Just got recommended this video, I first thought this was one of those videos with tons of views from a medium-sized channel just because of how quality this review is. Was pleasantly suprised. Subscribed!

Its ok, could be worse but could be better Honestly I would've preferred an elaborate rom hack of the gameboy tcg as an interactive randomizer complete with your personal account seed and it randomizes cards attacks, types, HP, etc thus small infinite possible cards and reason to rip boosters open. You cant develop a meta because every player's cards are different and if they are the same thats sheer coincidence or they might be the same in stat line but a different name like marrowak ex and pikachu ex are just an electric and fighting version of each other but that was just randomized. Me, baffled that Pokemon Sleep is what you thought was too complex- Like, I think what's cool about Pokemon Sleep is that there is 0 competitive scene and no mainline goal you have to accomplish. So if you want your personal goal to be "I want to make all the dishes at least once", go for it. If it's "I want to catch my favorite Shiny", shoot. If it's "I want to build an optimal team for just berry farming", right this way. There are spreadsheets and information and datamines to do literally everything, yes; I think that's just the nature of Pokemon. lol But you don't HAVE to. You can simply go to sleep and wake up to a pleasant surprise creature. Catch what you want. Sleep all day or very little. Cook the same boring food each time or go ham on the ingredients. Literally up to you. There's no right or wrong way to play. And the community is people legit just sharing the cool Shiny they found, the big number dish they cooked, or their guesses on which Pokemon or Island will drop next. That said, Pokemon Sleep is changing management hands from the super generous and beloved Select Button to ILCA, so I'm a little worried, ngl lol Still! If they want to make money they need to make the premium pass more worthwhile. Right now it doesn’t feel worth it, basically just an extra pack per day and access to a premium shop. The premium pass in Sleep feels way more valuable as you’re constantly getting extra items and points and stuff to accelerate the progression. If the pass in pocket reduced the pack timers or gave you bonus hourglasses every day, that would be much more valuable I think.
It’s technically a pretty good deal. If you get 1 free pack a day for 30 days that’s 30 free packs for 10 dollars. 1 pack is the equivalent of 6 gold. If you buy 10 dollars worth of gold that’s 25 gold, which will get you 4 packs. So the premium pass is giving you 26 free packs over the course of one month. But I do agree that it really doesn’t feel worth it at first glance.
I rerolled my save 5 times and got 2 normal mewtwo ex + 3 ⭐️ mewtwo ex so it’s absolutely possible to do all of the battle stuff f2p even if you got a worse start. Last battle went up against a deck with 2 crown mewtwos
I think it's good for now but I can see people dropping it. 2 packs isn't enough. I believe 3 or 4 for free to play players is good. Also as it's a collection app, I feel they should give everyone 1 free choice of any card they want
I tried getting into yugioh master duel when it dropped and oh boy did it feel horrendous as a beginner. I also felt to an extent like this with Hearthstone as well quite some years ago which also led me to quit that game too. Too many things happening too fast. Pokemon tcg pocket on the other hand is amazing, it finally feels like I'm not trying to do 12th grade math at 2nd grade 😂
It’s only good if you spend money. After opening the first twenty packs, it like creeps on so slowly. Difficult to get the cards needed to compete practically.
I've been playing it for a few days and I unfortunately can't really see myself playing it long-term. The rewards are kinda just terrible after the initial downpour of them. Like if you win a battle you get 15 exp and maybe a thanks from the opponent. If you win 15,000 battles you get 100 dust for making your card shiny, of which you easily get more than that just opening dupes. It's way too monetization funnely
TCG Live ain't that bad. You can play it completely free and be up to speed quick. Glad you're liking Pocket! It's not my favorite, but the collecting is much better.
I Played all throughout the beta and I found the card battling to be very stale My problem is all the types essentially play the same they only exist to give type advantage which has a mechanic kind of sucks since the best way to play this game is with a single type deck and so depending on whether you have a type disadvantage or not that basically determines the game assuming you know how to play your deck also there's not a lot of interactivity in this game I feel like I think that'll change in time when more pokémon have bench abilities but right now it's all just one-on-one interactions I'm hoping they find a way to add depth to this game in the future but as of right now I just think there's way too much simplicity to the point that it makes the games kind of boring and generic every single time you basically follow the same pattern every game and your opponent doesn't have a whole lot of way to interfere with your plans or change them and there's no environmentally interactivity
Also I really don't like card power being attached to multiple raritys of a single card it's just artificially makes the game more pay to win or you just have to hope you're really lucky and get a 4 diamond rarity card or higher to build out your deck most strategy hard games especially digital have moved away from that when people get a card they all get mechanically the same card in other games and there can be multiple designs that are cosmetic for the same card without making some versions worse
12:10 it's confusing on purpose so that the player just gives up and buys pokegold since pokegold can unlock everything in the game. Buying is kept simple where as free2play is made complicated and tedious.
uhhhh idk what you're talking about. i had a working competitive deck with a tournament decklist in TCG Live in about 50 minutes for $0. sounds like you didn't even try and you just assumed it would take months lol if anything, pocket is so slow that it makes it impossible to make and try out multiple decks
don't wanna piss on anyone's parade but the game really isn't THAT great. it's casual fun for now, nothing more. after grinding out your CPU challenges on day one and spending all of your currency on opening more packs, you've basically run completely out of steam. at that point, real battles are your only option to acquire more resources to open more packs but it's definitely painful. I'm pretty happy with my collection so far and I've made a quite consistent dragonite deck that gives me a decent winrate, but I can see others not being as fortunate with their pulls. the card crafting is pretty expensive as well so you are reliant on pulling at least some key cards for your deck of choice. "noob decks" are pretty rare in pvp, you see a lot of 2+ ex card decks. and you really have to wonder, how do people already have such complete decks within the first few days of the game's release? I mean it's obvious, this game is a mobile game and of course there will be an option to pay for packs. it sucks but can't really complain since the game is free and this is common practice these days. this would be much less of a problem though if there was at least something meaningful to do after completing the challenges, from a f2p perspective at least. 15 exp per win is a joke, even if you have a really good winrate, because that's all you can do right now to slowly have a handful more resources trickle in as you levelup. the game might improve over time in that regard, i.e. giving us more things to do. for starters, a real ranked format would be cool, in order to not immediately be paired up against players that have a perfect netdeck. but it sucks that they haven't put in the effort to offer that at the game's release. the game seems promising but if they don't give us new features quickly, the playerbase could fall off substantially as people will have a bitter taste of this game in their mouth, regardless of how good it might perhaps become eventually. not that it would matter to the pokemon franchise however, as long as there are a few whales that will continue to swipe their credit card, the game will stay alive. oh and the price increase of hourglasses on day motherfucking 2 is beyond shameless. but oh well, people won't care enough to boycott so might as well keep playing.
I have played a decent amount of PTCGL and hard disagree. Pocket brings back the Pokémon part. PTCG is trainers and some Pokémon. In pocket it matters what attacks your basics have before they evolve to Stage 2. In PTCG you just search and tutor your entire deck to get your big attackers and then cheat energy. It completely skips the build up and goes straight to end game. I like that I sometimes get my final KO with a gastly in pocket 😂
It's getting people playing though! I just learned with the Pocket app. Never played before. I know it's not really the whole experience, but now I'm WAY less intimidated to try the full size version

the game might improve over time in that regard, i.e. giving us more things to do. for starters, a real ranked format would be cool, in order to not immediately be paired up against players that have a perfect netdeck. but it sucks that they haven't put in the effort to offer that at the game's release. the game seems promising but if they don't give us new features quickly, the playerbase could fall off substantially as people will have a bitter taste of this game in their mouth, regardless of how good it might perhaps become eventually. not that it would matter to the pokemon franchise however, as long as there are a few whales that will continue to swipe their credit card, the game will stay alive.
oh and the price increase of hourglasses on day motherfucking 2 is beyond shameless. but oh well, people won't care enough to boycott so might as well keep playing.
ptcg live is way better. This "quicker" battle system sucks
Pocket is superior. Seethe more
It's getting people playing though! I just learned with the Pocket app. Never played before. I know it's not really the whole experience, but now I'm WAY less intimidated to try the full size version
Really glad your channel got recommended to me a few weeks ago! 🫶🏻 Thanks for all the vids and sharing the love for gaming, it’s really contagious!
