Own recepie. Vodka, green chartreuse, lemon juice, honey syrup. Shaking it with egg white. Love it because the honey and green chartreuse goes so well together
My 5 year old son says your shaking sounds like music 😄🤷🏼♀️ He wasn’t watching with me, he could hear it from across the room 😌 Super cute, so sweet & funny! Apparently you have a special sounding rhythm 😉😄🎵🎶🎼 Love what you do! Been following you for a few years now. I was on the fence towards buying a half bottle of chartreuse but after watching this video and hearing the history behind it, I definitely will be now! Thank you and appreciate you all 👏🏻♥️🙌🏻
Thanks for this cocktails ! I have been drinking chartreuse for a long time now, I live next to the Monastery of the Grande Chartreuse! It's a very nice place 😉
Steve, I just had a Last Word tonight. It is often my Friday go to for a fabulous cocktail. I love the balance and the sour herbaceous qualities make this drink wonderful to enjoy! I love knowing more about the history! Thanks so much!! Cheers! :-)
I've been kinda waiting for you to make this cocktail. A friend introduced it to me a couple years ago. Very unique. And I love to make it at my home bar. Especially enjoyed the background history of the drink 🍸 which makes it even more special.
Haven't even watched the video yet, but I'm stoked to see it. i picked up a bottle of green chartreuse about 6 months ago because I had seen you use it in a few videos, found the equal parts aviation recipe, and fell in love with the drink. Will have to watch this after work ;)
I can't believe you're featuring this drink right now 😳 I've just ordered a bottle of Chartreuse (haven't had one in my bar yet) and of Maraschino (special German one from the Schwarzwald with a blend of maraschino and sour cherry with 32 Vol.) so I can make myself some Last Words at home 😁
You got the Schladerer Maraschino Liqueur? I never had Luxardo but the German one is so great. I used it to make my own Maraschino Cherries too and it turned out great
Haha! Busted… I shot the video once and wasn’t totally happy with it… then refilled the next day but lost the B roll footage the second time round and had to use the original footage!
I made this last night! Chartreuse is fantastic. I recently made a Champs-Élysées and love that variant on a sidecar. Always looking for more GC cocktails. FYI In the UK a 700ml bottle of GC is about £35-40 or 65-75AUD
The Last Word is hands down my favorite cocktail. Bit expensive to make at home but I treat myself to the ingredients and try to make them last (but they don't) a couple times a year.
One of my favorites! I prefer my last word with Mezcal instead of Gin though and sometimes a hind of green chilli makes it really really good. Give it a try.
Great video Steve. One slight tweak I make to my Last Word (all equal parts .75 oz); however, I split the citrus with .50 oz lime & .25 oz lemon…It really does a wonder to the cocktail as the slight sweetness from the lemon helps balance the cocktail even more so, in my opinion…Give it a go….
@@StevetheBartender_ Between the juniper flavor from the gin and the herbal flavor from the Chartreuse, this drink has all of the aromas of an evergreen tree, and the maraschino flavor with the lime add an extra bit of spice to the overall flavor.
In the Catholic Church, today is the Feast of St Bruno, the monk who founded the Carthusian Order, who produce Chartreuse. I made myself a Last Word today to celebrate. You dropping this video today is a marvelous coincidence (or is it God's will?)!
Does Chartreuse need to be refrigerated? I have a 750mL i haven't opened for fear it needs to be refrigerated and I'm on the clock so to speak with its expiration.
Chartreuse Green is quite pricey where I'm at - AUD$150.00/700ml bottle. The 350ml is not offered. So that breaks down to about AUD$4.80 per 22.5ml. A quality gin would cost at least 1/2 that and the Luxardo MARSCHINO $1.50/22.5ml. So your looking at about AUD$9.00 for raw materials that make up this cocktail assuming your lime and ice is free. I might try it with Benedictine instead.
What is your favourite Chartreuse cocktail and why? 🌿
chartreuse tequila sour
Chartreuse Swizzle from SC. This was my first cocktail with Chartreuse, and it’s just a perfect summer drink 🍹

Garden party (chartreuse mojito) 👍
As a native Italian speaker, you can't imagine how happy I am every time you pronounce "maraschino" just like an Italian :)
That smile gets me every time :D
This is such a great cocktail. I love to give people this cocktail at the bar I work at, when they are feeling adventurous.

Thanks Rachael! I’m sure you’ll love mixing with chartreuse - it’s a unique bottle for sure!

One of my true loves The Last Word!
This was the first cocktail I ever made, and the drink that brought me to Steve's channel.
Welcome to the channel! 👋

You have to make some Final Wards as well! Basically Rye instead of gin!
You got the Schladerer Maraschino Liqueur? I never had Luxardo but the German one is so great. I used it to make my own Maraschino Cherries too and it turned out great
The ice cubes in that shaker aren't crying; they're just leaking tears of joy for being shaken ever so violently.
This is in my top 5 favorite classic cocktails - it’s really great with mezcal too!
You are right! A bit of smokiness is really good in there.
I love the magic cup that keeps appearing and disappearing in the close-ups. I've got to get one of those! 😂
Haha! Busted… I shot the video once and wasn’t totally happy with it… then refilled the next day but lost the B roll footage the second time round and had to use the original footage!
One of my favorite cocktails! Beautiful color and a no brainer since all equal parts. Green chartreuse is expensive but worth every penny!
Love your videos keep the nice work love ❤️
I had no choice so I just bought the full bottle. Worth it
Love have you have six bottles of chartreuse in the shot haha. Great video!
Hi Steve, thanks for sharing this drink. Just made it and love the flavour with the subtle spice from the chartreuse combined with the lime
Fantastic !
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your smile, man!
It’s amazing. Had one Monday and he swapped out Gin for Mescal. It was amazing
My birthday occurred during lockdown this year so this is what I made to celebrate. I seem to have a thing for cocktails that use gin and maraschino.
I have never had a Chartreuse cocktail and this one looks to be a great place to start!
I enjoyed the history lesson for the introduction.
The only other fact I know about the Last Word is that I LOVE them!
Good info here. Absolute classic, love this drink.
Tried this coctail its pretty tasty so is the Chartreuse swizzle one of my go to chartreuse coctails.
My favorite cocktail! I drink mine:
2oz gin
1oz lime
.5 maraschino
.5 chartreuse

Fascinating video! Thanks Steve!
We do a variation called the Last of the Oaxacans that uses Mezcal in place of the gin that is also a fantastic cocktail.
Yeah it’s great! I referenced that drink in the description already 👍
Green chartreuse is very herbaceous and is definitely makes this cocktail more of a sipping drink, in my opinion.

I can't wait to get the pull like STB gets into importing bottles. 😁
Haha, I’m quite flattered!
I thought that was a plum you put in there at the end! Never seen a cherry as big as that.
It was only a touch bigger than the Luxardo maraschino cherries… we have a good cherry growing region nearby so they are plump!
That’s my favourite! But I enjoy it alone, cause none of my friends or relatives like it.
So honored and proud to be 13th!!!!
Why is the plymouth on the backbar so dark?
It’s Plymouth’s Sloe Gin..

hey mate, where can you buy the 350ml from in australia?
Hello I live in Voiron where the chartreuse is made :) I know few people who work there if you're interested
Really? That’s amazing!! I’d love to travel there one day :-)
I always tone down the lime a tad on this one as it's quite citrussy in my opinion. Big fan of Green Chartreuse though!
