At this time (1939) in Hollywood, it was considered "Your Song" when you introduced a song in a movie. That code of ethics held true for the next 20 + years before anyone tried to sing Judy's song and offer it in another movie. This song is considered by many musicians to be THE perfect song!
The song has so much more meaning knowing how difficult her life became as she grew up in the movie industry, never really having a life of her own. Yes, she owned this song, and so many more.
Yeah the only person that was truly able to do this justice was IZ, simply because he didn't try to outsing Judy, he just put his heart on his ukele and delivered a performance where we can feel his heart, as much as we felt Judy's soul. Most people don't get that this song is not about belting or using range, it's about being able to pass genuine emotions, and that's why even incredible singers fall short trying to sing this.
Over The Rainbow belongs for all time to Judy Garland. Although many singers have performed it over the decades, this song Judy's, There was never and will never be anyone else like her.
This song makes me cry today. She is so beautiful and looks like a lullaby at the same time, there's something melancholy. What melody more lovely, what a fantastic letter, that makes us dream ... the sweet voice of Judy Garland is perfect, and this time, the film, she was a teenager 16-17 years. It's beautiful movie. This song is one of my themes. Loved to hear and review this short excerpt from the film.
And just when the New York office wanted Shirley Temple instead for starters because she was the # 1 draw for starters. Judy Nailed it beautifully and became a much bigger star than Shirley Temple with the help of that voice.. How about that New York office?
Still one of the 5 greatest American films of all-time. Judy had a lot to do with that, of course, and remains now and will continue to be the most indelible icon of music in American history.
Knowing how her life sadly ended this song brings a flood of tears for me. Judy. Used and abused by the people all around her, her raw talent is shown here and it's very sad.
She did not want to be remembered that way, so please just focus on the beautiful work she did and the actual good times she really did have in her life.

Whenever i listen to this song, it just reminds me of how tragic and difficult Judy Garland’s Hollywood lifestyle was like to her. All those photos of her smiling with pleasure, was just a strategy to cover up the severe pain that she had to go through, and all of the hard barriers that she had to strictly face. It’s just so upsetting that she had to go through all of that. Her voice was so angelical and beautiful. She really deserved better. 🙁

let's not get carried away, it's ONE of the best movies of all time and it's still one of my favorites but the best of all time? i couldn't begin to choose one movie for that title.
Notice how Judy NEVER blinks...in spite of the intense lighting required to photograph in Technicolor. Quite an amazing skill to fight that urge, and concentrate on the scene instead.
Many recording artists have done their own versions of this song but none, and I mean NONE of them can match the warm and emotion this teenager put into that iconic song. It's too bad she couldn't have somehow maintained the beauty and magic she exuded The Wizard of Oz, instead of getting caught up in all the "Hollyweird" lifestyle and behind the scenes BS that went with, and still goes, with it.
Judy Garland had perfect pitch & did this scene in one take! She never missed any of her lines throughout the movie, that's why a lot of actors had trouble working with her ... Judy couldn't understand why the older more experienced actors could've say their lines in one take & move on to the next... even with our technology of today, her voice & the movie soundtrack have been compared & she is note for note with the musical instruments ..not 95% not 99.9%- 100% on track with the instruments. Even when she got older & had her own t.v. show, when she sang with a band or orchestra.. she never missed a note! And again in all the movies she did, she did her lines in one take! Her untimely death was caused in part by the drugs that her producers & directors were making her take to keep up with her scheduling.. they couldn't get enough of Judy's perfect singing voice..& eventually the very thing that made her a star in the first place, her amazing talented singing voice, is what led to her destruction..the intense pressure she was under & the pills she was taking just to keep up with the demand for her talent is what killed her!
The Adorable, Extremely Talented, Very Intelligent, Rey Funny, Very Pretty 15-year-old Judy Garland was very happy prerecording all the songs for the movie and was very happy at 15 and early 16 during the entire filming of the movie! By the time Garland recorded " Zing ! Went The Strings Of My Heart " for Decca Records in July 1939 , she was on the verge of major stardom . During the same two - day session , the singer also recorded " Over The Rainbow , " a new Harold Arlen - Yip Harburg composition from the soon to be released MGM musical The Wizard Of Oz . It won the Academy Award for Best Song and Garland won a special " juvenile " mini - Oscar® for her performance as Dorothy Gale , the little Kansas farm girl who is caught in a cyclone and blown over the rainbow to the magical land of Oz . In the wake of the film's success , the story became a metaphor for Garland's newfound stardom .

By this time she lived 5 lives and must have seen some crazy stuff in vaudeville. Imagine no child labor laws, and if there were who was following them?
She already filmed a few musical films by that time and in all of them so mature. Girl was singing dancing acting non-stop since she was able to mouth a sound. So much work that she was doped up high on ampfetamins by the time was no longer a kid😪

She sounds more like 35, but not an old lady.
Its not possible, she had help, from over the rainbow..
Excellent!
I love it so much...
Perfect Movie Magic!
i have sleep issues when i cant sleep my wife sings me this song and i go right to sleep
Another one that's good for inducing sleepiness is "Stay awake, don't rest your head". I defy anyone not to be nodding after that. (Created by the Sherman brothers; sung by JA, of course.)
Hahahahahaha is good how You get sleep
Até tou serious? Your wife? Does your wife sings to u sleep? OMG!
@@G6JPG Bonnie Raitt did a very good version of that one.
@@G6JPG I love watching "Mary Poppins" just for the wonderful musical score. I am amazed at how the shogs flow together from one scene to another better than any other musical I have seen. All different styles of music as well!
This is still my favorite of Judy's songbook!
Happy Autumn 2024! Happy Halloween 2024! Happy Harvest 2024! Happy Halloween 2024!
bella voz bella niña QUE DIOS LA TENGA EN GLORIA AMEN
Extraordinary!
Still very significant !
Ouf! Inoubliable chanson, inoubliable Judy! Merci de me rappeler ce trésor qui a fait parti de mon enfance, même si c'est "américain". Quelle voix! Quel film! Salutations à toi Max!
This is song of the my life.
Melancolia total 😢😢😢
No, just wistfulness. 🙂
Perfect!
I've been looking for one safe place that I'll never find, I thought I found it in abuse but like Judy Garland, that just makes it worse. I guess only when your in heaven with God is the only place, I'll see u soon Judy, loved & missed forever.
Iz busted out a damn fine version, but it doesn"t beat Judy"s version.
It also depends on context. Iz's version sounds much more happy than the original and creates a different emotion. I like the original better because I like old-timey music.
i am really really sad for her she was an angel and i don't know why but i love this woman so much this angel doesn't deserve any of what came to her head i hope she is in somewhere good now and she is happy
