    Why did people say that she wasn’t beautiful? I think she was stunning and that voice; her dancing talent; her acting. She was simply amazing. How very proud the US must be.

      Right! Even when she looked aged you still saw her beauty. It's a shame they got in her head, and made her believe she wasn't pretty. She was beautiful and her personality made her even more stunning. I've always thought she was beautiful.

      The studio heads were comparing her to the unrealistic beauty of some the other actresses. I think a number of these actresses were chosen for their looks first and then trained to act. Judy had a natural gift that was honed through her childhood and was beyond anything that could be "taught". I'm not bad mouthing the conventionally beautiful actresses, just expressing what I think Judy was up against.

      Edith Piaf was a great singer, but, she wasn't in Judy's class. Miss Piaf was kind of a one trick pony. Judy sang SWING, BOGIE, JAZZ, TORCH, RAGTIME, EASY LISTENING, PATRIOTIC, HYMNS, BARBERSHOP. She could sing songs that were considered men's songs, she sang Old Man River and hit it out of this World. I Forgot, she also sang Rock an Roll. Miss Piaf was GREAT, but, Judy was the absolute GREATEST.

    Judy will never die! She will always live on. Think about where your eyes are always looking when you see her films. You cannot take your eyes off her! Her dancing was supreme even Gene Kelly said so. When he watched the rushes of their dance number he was quoted as saying: "After just a few minutes I realized I was watching Judy the whole time! It was amazing! I couldn't take my eyes off her!" We focus too much on the tragedy and I think Judy might like it better if we focused on her work. God what a force she was......and still is!

    I don't think Judy EVER got the praise she should have gotten. So talented in so many different directions. She's one who could do it all. I've probably watched movies with her in them 10 times each and would watch each one again. Hollywood called her the "ugly duckling." What?? She was beautiful from the beginning but it seemed they didn't want her to be beautiful for some reason. We all love her and today is missing it all.

    • @LPJISKOOL
      @LPJISKOOL 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    • @zuverlassig2jl
      @zuverlassig2jl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I know, the ugly duckling thing was absolutely ridiculous. She was a great beauty. Her face was incredibly distinct and adorable and beautiful all at the same time. Her legs were amazing and very long in her proportioning considering how tiny she was...her eyes were phenomenal, her lips perfect...those lashes, my lord..we ladies pay a fortune to buy the "good" mascara or professional falsie application to have the appearance of half of her lashes, her eyebrows where on point...naturally...her profile was beautiful and completely one of a kind...those people in charge were idiots to call her and ugly duckling...every one goes through an awkward tween phase and if not no worries, time and age will have you knowing what it's like to not be the most beautiful creature in the room sooner or later.

      Shawnee, I think you are mistaken. Judy was called a living legend many years before her death. She was also considered to be the GREATEST ENTERTAINER THAT EVER LIVED. MANY YEARS BEFORE HER DEATH. TO QUOTE FRANKIE TO DEAN WHEN THEY WERE WATCHING HER PERFORM ON HER TV SPECIAL, THE ONE THAT THEY WERE HER GUESTS.
      "WHEN WE ARE ALL GONE, SHE'LL BE THE ONE THEY'LL REMEMBER. I JUST WISH ALL THOSE IDIOTS WHO RIPPED HER OFF, AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HER, WOULD HAVE PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE, SEVERAL YEARS IN JAIL, WITH FELLOW INMATES WHO WERE BIG FANS OF JUDY'S. OUCH !.

The clip of "After You've Gone" is a great example of how she could let the beat breathe in a totally natural and expressive way and then hit those double time syncopations like Gene Krupa. Along with Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and many of the greats, her mastery of swing and timing gave life to her music.

She just puts almost every performer to shame, even today made lots of money for MGM and others, they screwed her over when they let her go after shoving her full of addicting uppers and downers. Thomas Timlin sadly, there weren’t recovery programs and centers like there are now, addicted people would be locked away in a padded cell to come down off the drugs. Some died in the process, because the jonesing killed them, and it is still tough to get people sober and dried out. She was deeply psychologically messed up, too, and extremely unhappy 🙁, she had many failed suicide attempts. At the end, she called herself a singing 🎤 piece of meat 🥩. I pray that she has found peace and happiness.

    My sweet, beautiful Ms. Judy Garland the true "Goddess of Song," such a sad VICTIM of Hollywood producers, who pushed pills down your throat to keep you up in order to work, then to make you sleep when it was time for rest. I am SO SORRY for what THEY DID TO YOU... for the pain you suffered FOR YEARS, inside & out, AT THEIR HANDS. Please know dear, lovely lady, NO ONE will EVER match your extraordinary talent, or the unprecedented, glorious beauty of your voice & your heart. You will ALWAYS have my INFINITE love & adoration, dear, dear Ms. Garland, for eternity. I pray we will meet one day..."Over the Rainbow."💕💕💕

  • @iluvmusicals21
    @iluvmusicals21 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    The scene from "For Me and My Gal" just grabs your heart. You see the transition from performance to her heartache in the "real life" of her life in the film. She then is lost in her thoughts for a moment, but comes to her senses and finishes the song with a plucky false bravado. The cuts to Gene and George highlight the drama in the scene. Gene, clueless to how he is hurting her; George, an unrequited love, who would still want to see her happy even if not with himself. 💙

    She was so gorgeous in her prime.
    Her voice was still beautiful in her later years, but it was much lower with air pockets from vocal cord damage. Damn drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes ravaged her beauty and voice. 10 years older than me when she passed, and I'm sorry to say she looked SO very old 😞
    RIP Judy.

    • @g.meganruff8284
      @g.meganruff8284 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      She did look very old. Even the media said she looked 20yrs older than she was. Her story has to be one of the most heartbreaking I've ever heard... she died 10yrs b4 I was even born. I so desperately wish I could have met her in her prime!!

    • @Karolina-qv8qm
      @Karolina-qv8qm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      So there she was - probably the best entertainer that have ever lived - and what you wrote about her was to do with looks and looking old. It's low, it's sad and frankly offensive. The clock won't stop for you either so why discuss women like some crowd-pleasing tarts (bimbos). There are enough men-children denying women the dignity of ageing already. Hollywood was run by such men exploiting youth hence her looks later. That should be completely obvious.
      Talk about her genius phrasing, her unsurpassed dancing, the charm, the humour, the uniqueness. Maybe one day when you are older, ppl will consider you as a person and will see your accomplishments instead of your inevitably dwindling youth.

      Completely agree. When Walters was coming up as a dancer on Broadway in the 30s, reviewers compared him quite favorably with Fred Astaire -- and in this clip you can see why. He was light on his feet, agile, athletic and showed tremendous personality in his facial reactions to Judy. She and Walters were quite good friends and he was very supportive when she went through her hard times. Although, it should be said, in directing her in Summer Stock (her final film for MGM) he later said she had given him his first ulcer.
