Good thing to know, the stone suitcase (at 6:08) is one of the 5 located in Leiden. Together they form a monument called "bagage", in memory of the deported en murdered jews from Leiden during WWII.
Oh wow, thank you for sharing that. Not only am I disappointed for missing the other 4, but also disappointed we didn't get to share that deeper meaning. Thank you.
Nice documentary and nice to see my hometown. In this little museum ( at 6:20 ) was my old warehouse, it turned out very nice. Above the fireplace hung a painting presumably by an old master (maybe Rembrandt). This one was unfortunately stolen. One of my ancestors was from Ireland (he was a redhead...;) ...not me).
My family dates back to the days the Pelgrims lived in Leiden and have always lived there. You did an excellent job of filming the town and its link to the Pelgrims. Tiny side note, the suitcase you tried to lift is one of many and it is a memorial. They are all at locations where Jewish people were rounded up by the Nazis and put on transport to the concentration camps.
I lived here for 3 and a half years from 2006-2009. I absolutely loved it and i still have friends here i still visit from time to time. I'm Australian and i live in Melbourne...
Indeed the building behind you, now a law school, was the coldest place on earth, before the building was necessary for other purposes it was a real laboratory. I have seen the machines that made that low temperatures.. Very nice filming you did.

Dat wist ik niet, leuk om te weten. Het onderwerp spreekt me overigens erg aan.
Leiden is one of our favorite Dutch cities. 😊

Wow! How long does it take you to get there from Australia?!
@@TalesFromOurPocket depends on where the plane stops along the way but from Melbourne it's around 23 hours flight time...
Such a pretty city! We actually haven't been there yet, but it's definitely on our list.
We were so surprised by how we fell in love with Leiden (and Rotterdam too, tbh). 😊
@@TalesFromOurPocket Rotterdam is still on our list too! In general we’re huge fans of the Netherlands and fortunately live close to the border.
I've been there once, and that is really beautiful city
We were really surprised by how much we enjoyed it. 😊😊

Slightly annoyed that it's not famous for being my alma mater yet. Guess I need to keep working on that
Missed where you picked up the walking guide. At the CI?
Yes, the Tourist Information office had it! Very informative.
Now you reached Netherlands? Great journey.
Hahaha, TH-cam magic! We filmed this before Taiwan. 😁😉 Taiwan videos are coming next! We have so many!
