I was born in Leiden and still live there, my family came to Leiden in the 15th century and never left. I did law school at Leiden university. The keys are the sign of Saint Peter, the patron saint of the town. The gate you saw is the Morspoort. Mors means marches. The mill you saw is called The Put and it grinds flower for a local baker, where my wife and I get our fresh bread. Yes it is a replica and it stands on the spot where Rembrandt’s father was a miller 😊. I could go on, but Leiden is great.
I love it when you said: "I could live here". Its such a liveable city. I was born and raised in Leiden but moved away to travel the world. I don'y miss The Netherlands but I do miss my city. Watching your video brings back so much memories and make me a little bit homesick.
Nate has the same vibe as me when seeing animals 😂 it's nice to see that no matter the animal species we can not stop ourselfs and have to approuch them, pet them, talk to them or even try to lure them 😂 Btw I loveeee Leiden. I grew up there ( born in Amsterdam, moved at 4 years old to Leiden). I live nearby now in a village next to Leiden but my mom still lives there so I am always in Leiden. You should do a boat trip next time, walk through the singelspark; it's 6,5 km walk through different parks and canals. There are some sightseeing like Molen de Valk. Where you start is where you finish but you can exit everuwhere if you don't want to walk 6,5 km. Or do a Hofjes wandeling (courtyard walk). Go to Hortus Botanicus and the Observatory where Einstein himself observed the stars. The chair he sat in is still there. And we have many mire museums to choose from.

It's just one of the best cities. The center is essentially a maze of cute little historic things, you can live there for years and still discover new stuff.
