CORRECTION: I made a mistake on my recommendation to NOT exalt a final prefix if you land an open one at the end of crafting. It turns out the Minion supports do not modify mana costs. Exalt slam away! Thanks furyOfKittens kats for the tip.
Fyi if you want to stop at a 7L you can simply craft on a shaper base. Once you hit hypothermia with an open suffix, reforce crit with suffix cagnot be change is a guarranted spell crit suffix. You can then opt for a +2 aoe on prefix and have a very good helmet and wait later for a god one.
Thanks for the video. Very informative. I really didn't knew people actually used exalt slam as a safe method on this kinds of expensive crafts, I just tought it was something never worth doing.
Amazing work FD! I'm hoping that Explosive Trap of Shrapnel makes it through Patch Notes and I can put this crafting info to good use this 3.24 League. Cheers man, gl on League Start!
Yep, this is good info. I thought I mentioned that somewhere but it's been a while and I can't recall / find it. You can technically still elevate to T1 (for those of us using Blizzard Crowns to sell bricks for other builds) from a lower tier but ideally you'd have a pre-enchanted 82 base or an 84 as it will make your spell crit odds better. I need to update this crafting guide as when I did it in early 3.20 Bristle Matrons weren't widely known for their utility in rolling metamods more cheaply. I'll produce another one for 3.22. Thanks for the comment @LeGyLP
Around patch notes time. I want to make sure it won't be a brick on arrival. With some testing I was able to get it going on league start with no FF/impossible escape or expensive gear outside of crafting one low budget sceptre. Took down uber shaper and breezes through invitation farms. I'll keep you posted.
I’m looking very much forward to your league start guide for this. I am a new player, so how far can I get with the explosive trapper before doing this advanced stuff you show of in the video? Because shit looks hard to understand :D
Yea, i corrupted it to +2 AoE gems too with Locks. I think I estimated 3-5 mirror cost or so. No mirror service though, Casual Cannibal made the best trapper helm in Affliction and was awesome to put it up for free in settler shop
@@fearlessdumb0 wow didn’t expect such a fast response. Do you have tips for the suffixes? I was actually able to reforge influence and hit hypothermia with trap and mine from the essence. Seems like I was very lucky tho I don’t think it’s worth the currency
Oh wow that’s huge. Normally for a 7L helm it’s essence until either hypo/trap and mine then lock suffixes and reforge crit to get spell crit. If you want what you landed, you would essence for trap and mine dmg, then lock suffixes and reforge cold for a 1/5 to hit hypo. It’s really expensive to do, don’t sell that cheaply if you don’t end up keeping it
@@fearlessdumb0 wow I’m dumb I just realized I was looking at rem/add not reforge lmao. Glad I didn’t waste a bunch of currency. Been a while since I crafted the helm last league lol
Question, The more expensive amulet with fracture Multi. Whats the best way to go about crafting it? I have everything else done, I just don’t know the best way to craft the amulet. Once you have the multi and +2, Do you just simply have to gamble with the unveil and hope it is a suffix? If I have an open prefix, Am I just fucked? I need to craft on -7 after
Socketed Gems are supported by Level 18 Trap and Mine Damage blocks "Alt Quality"? What is that? Trying to get my mana cost down. (Video 1:15) Love your build.
It means you aren't able to socket Anomalous Trap and Mine, which provides another 10% reduced mana cost for supported trap skills, if you have it rolled on the helmet.
Been thinking of league start options for 3.21 and found your videos. Been going through them and they're all very good. Explosive Trap was one of my all time favorite builds back in Ultimatum. Made it with a Mahuxotl's Machination approach as a Raider, scaling Onslaught effect for massive cast speed to use the Slavedriver's Hands gloves. I've not played traps since then, outside of a small attempt on Seismic but that build is beyond boring to me. So I'm considering this for my league start on 3.21 unless the mechanic is a huge clear speed one, then I'll probably opt for a fast clear build instead. Or I might just convert this to Lightning Trap or Arc Traps or something instead, self chill traps seems very fun to play with. I do have a couple of questions on the build though. First off, for a better clear, how do you think Exsanguinate Trap with Chain would work? On your budget Sunblast PoB it seems like a 4L Exsanguinate with Trap, Chain and Trap and Mine Damage would hit a total of 27 monsters per trap and have an average hit of 500k. It seems like it SHOULD be pretty good for clear? I'm thinking you could drop the Divine Blessing setup for it. It should probably work pretty well for a proper clearing of maps. On the Raider trapper I mentioned, I ran Arc traps because Exsanguinate hadn't even been released yet. The clear was very smooth with it but that was back a long time ago and there's been monster life changes and cluster traps were a thing and there was no Sunblast and whatnot available so I'm not sure how it would feel these days. But back then it was just Arc trap for everything and if there was a tanky rare I could just throw Explosive Trap on them and it probably oneshot the enemy. Then, how do you do your league start progress? No need to go crazy on details here, just wondering if there's some specific uniques you'd consider early on that might not be in the eventual PoBs you've got listed on your channel. I would assume stuff like Slavedriver's make for a much easier startup because you don't have to worry about all the mana cost reduction alt qual gems and whatnot. And would Sabo work better on league start, or do you just go straight for Trickster? Anywho, thank you for the content, especially the crafting videos.
It's a fun league start build. In 3.20 I started as a sabo and transitioned once I had enough gear to manage the mana costs effectively. I plan on doing some league start testing and will probably make another video with some recommendations closer to 3.21, the general response has been a bit bigger than I was anticipating, which is encouraging. As far as other traps, I think you could do any non-cooldown based trap and find success. Having a fat extra chunk of action speed makes the build feel good and provides additional dps, no matter the trap. Exsanguinate + Chain would be fine, I think, but you probably wouldn't want to use a Sunblast. I haven't tested it though, so let me know if you do. I'll add that to my todo notes for 3.21 to test before league start. Dropping the divine blessing setup is kind of tough since you get enormous utility out of Haste / Zealotry, but again I think do whatever is fun to play. Haste makes leap slam feel turbo. For league start I probably would prefer linking lifetap over Slavedriver's Hand because of its high cost the first few days of league. The first unique I'll be shopping for will be a Sunblast, then followed afterwards by Call of the Void / Winterweave after I have a trigger weapon of some sort. Relative to the Slavedriver's Hand, a shaper base with the trap support would be just as good as you can throw lifetap on it. A rare would be considerably cheaper and wouldn't carry the trap throwing speed penalty. For your last question, I'm not sure yet if I'll start Trickster or Sabo. Like I said earlier, I started Sabo both in 3.19 and 3.20 but if I need to do some league start testing to see how it would feel to spend life instead of ES and rely on the Trickster ascendancy for tankiness. I'll keep you posted, taking a break for another week or two to recharge the batteries for 3.21.
@@fearlessdumb0 Thank you for the reply! I've been thinking of doing some league start practice myself too. I'll try out some different traps and the 4L for clear instead of Haste/Zealotry and whatnot. I'll come back and let you know how that feels. I personally fell in love with Haste this league and I do see the benefits of it for fast leap slamming, but Explosive Trap juts feels kinda meh for actual clear which is sad because I absolutely love the skill otherwise. Also good point on the Slavedriver cost, I hadn't realized how pricey they were. Last time I played traps they were basically free because no one played traps.
That's just poor editing on my part, I meant to use a video segment that benched the last mod on the Tier2 helmet (AoE gems). Nothing crazy, and it doesn't change anything about benching that last mod. I was trying to remove the dead space in the video to make it more watchable; I'll get better as I do this more.
@@fearlessdumb0 aah gotcha - it's still an excellent video! If Exalts and Divines are just as easily farmed in SSF next league as they are this league, I might set some higher tier crafts like a 3-support helmet as an end-league goal for myself for next league.
Minion life and minion damage only affect minion gems, no? It shouldn't apply the support gem at all, or does it work differently when its a "socketed by _____" mod on an item
You know, I had been told that it affected mana multipliers BUT I never actually went and tested it for myself. I was wrong, you are right it does not affect the mana cost of the socketed skill according to PoB. I'm going to roll one in league to confirm PoB isn't lying to me, then I'll post a pinned comment with a correction. Thanks for the info!
Yes, the best possible endgame setup is in a 7- or 8-link helmet for explosive trap. A 6-link chest even with a +4 corruption isn't as strong as a well rolled helmet, and it frees your chest slot up for rolling a huge Evasion/ES Sadist Garb with RMR and aura effect implicits and two additional sockets.

how do you guarantee the +2 aoe on prefix? is that a bench craft?
Wish I could send a picture
Hit conc effect and 3% spell crit on the reroll, 1 open prefix and suffix.

Yes, bristle matrons to clear prefixes + block mana then exalt 2x is the current best method

Endgame. I’d make better weapons first
hey, i just rolled a helm w/ conc effect and trap and mine with a horror essence, how would i deal with mana costs using this helmet?
For the higher tier craft when you hit attack crit instead of spell crit, is the only option to 1/3 annul?
