I wouldn't say it was more smooth, u think matsugoros style allowed for more complex techniques to be played. Setsus was louder but that only allowed him to play certain techniques.
Setsu's sound was a lot more bold and playful, he's a younger guy so it wouldn't be too far fetched for him to have this kind of sound, if anything I'd prefer if he boldly paved his own path in his own sound instead of someone else's
